Auburn just recently added 7 more. Ole Miss self proclaims one. Let’s add 1941 national champs banner and a few more while we are at it. It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks because they are doing the same thing.

I’ve thrown up in our football stadium before. Never a NC though.
1940 is the strongest case since we finished undefeated. 1941 is a tough case to make except in relation to Alabama claiming an even flimsier one for the same season.
We've been needing to do this for years. Let's claim one or two. Mississippi has been claiming 2 or 3 for years, even though theirs weren't legit and came out of a Crackerjacks box.
Dude EXACTLY. If anyone questions it just respond with “60sdog’s great grandpappy kept a football journal and he declared MSU national champion in 1940, 1941, 1947 etc…” that’s what Auburn has done. It’s what ole Miss has done. We “won” national championships just as much as they did. May as well claim them. Recruits see it. Let’s put up 9-10 of those championships and keep on trucking.

Nobody cares when they won if it was 2022 or 1902… just put “MSU 9 time national champions” in letters so big on the back of that scoreboard over the endzone. EVERYONE will see it who steps on campus. Again, Auburn does this, ole Miss does this… I don’t think that in itself will sell any one recruit but it couldn’t hurt. Makes the program look better. After a couple years nobody will even question it.
You got the right idea. Our 1940 national championship holds more weight than Ole Miss’s dingleberry championship does. Advertise and market the heck out of it. Put it all over campus then we’ll go win some more. We’ve already won several.

Why stop at 9, when you can claim all 157 years of college football?
Make it look realistic. Nobody in a few years will even question it. If we claim 140 while Alabama claims 26 or however many they do then it won’t look authentic. Pick several of our best teams and just run with it. Texas A&M did this too.
1940 national football champions - the Auburn receiver who caught the tying TD was 10 yards out the back of the end zone...it was too dark to play, but the refs didn't want to call the game while Auburn was losing.

Yall do know the 1941 thing is a joke based on Alabama claiming it and us having beaten them and won the SEC, right?
I'm down with the joke and keeping it alive and all, but every once in a while I feel like it needs to be said out loud, we don't actually have a claim to the 1941 national championship, having gone neither undefeated or untied in 1941.
Minnesota accomplished both, and are generally with a couple stupid exceptions acknowledged as the champions that year, and deservedly so.
Now, if you want to have another conversation about the 1941 SEC Championship or the 1998 Western Division Championship being honored within the confines of Davis Wade Stadium, that is a worthy topic and I'm in full support.
But based on conversations I had with random people two weeks ago, I think the 1941 thing has gotten too far over without the context of the whole idea behind it being LOL Alabama.
Surely the SPS magazine is willing to recognize as many claims as we’d like to make****

But absolutely we should claim 1940 and 1941. Or, to your point - don't even put the years on there, just put "TWO TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" and when somone asks, then let one of us SPSers fill them in.
