2025 season at QB...

watching Kamario - it just has to make you wonder how he wasn't used more. Like most sports fans, the "what if" starts to enter your mind. What if Kamario plays more in 2025? Do we end up with 1-3 more wins? Do we beat Ole Miss because he would have had more reps?

I say this as one of the guys on here that was clamoring for KT by midseason last year, but yeah... he wasn't ready to take over full time. He had his moments, but he also really struggled for lengthy stretches during the egg bowl and bowl game.

Definite what-ifs but we do know that whatever was done, for whatever reasons, got him to this point. Ipso facto that makes it hard to argue against.

Lebby on the importance of failure in coaching a developing quarterback
“Yeah, I mean, they're huge. You need the adversity. You don't want it, but you need it and that's when you see the real growth. I'm gonna go back to a year ago, but there was a real reason in playing him why I played the young man the way I did for a full season, so that he doesn't have all these skeletons. That is a real thing in the quarterback position. And for him being able to learn and mature and watch and play a little bit of situational football, get two starts under his belt at the end of the year, that helped him in a great, great way. So, now he can go play and has the ability to just go play the next play and there's not all these bad memories because of, you know, what happened.”

Yeah. Playing a young player before he’s ready is overrated. And a good way to limit his growth instead of help it. Especially at qb.

Our offense got worse, not better when he took over. If anything we should have stuck with Shapen for those last 2 games.

Good comments. I don’t think we can complain too much about the way Taylor has been handled.

We started him the last two games and he dang near got killed. When he took that hit against Wale Forest I thought he was about to miss this entire season.

He’s also improved significantly from what he was at the end of the year. He was spraying it all over the place in those two games and basically just getting by because he’s a good runner.

He also saw what happened to MVB the year before when we had no other choice. That is why we paid Kromenhoek so if push came to shove KT wouldn't be thrown in as starter.

By they way - MVB is starting ahead of Kro at USF. Having a good start to his season so far.

Yeah, it’s hard when you’re constantly seeing the flashes of brilliance from a kid like KT, but coming in to run 4-5 plays and asking a true freshman to run an entire offense in the SEC are two entirely different things.

I think the reason that I was so frustrated last season was less about me wanting KT to truly take over and more about Lebby just using him in logical spots. To this day, I still don’t know what the 17 Lebby was doing with his QB rotations against Missouri last year.

It was very strange. I remember one series, not sure which game, we drove down to the plus 40-yard line. Had 1st and 10 and got a false start penalty to make it 1st & 15 at the 45. Then we brought KT1 in. Why? Why would you wait till you drew a penalty to put you in 1st and 15 to bring in the true FR?

At first, I thought it was just another shout-out to the Ole Miss quarterback. Now they're saying he could run an NFL team. I am getting tired of hearing about this kid.

I kind of look at it perhaps a bit differently. With all this NIL / portal crap, I view college football more in an NFL lens. Meaning, once you’re out of postseason contention, just play the younger, more talented guys that are the future. Get them ready. Let them make mistakes and get those teaching points in a setting where it’s a lot less tense. I honestly don’t care if it costs the team wins. Bowls are now meaningless. If you’re not in the CFP hunt, go ahead and start getting ready for next year.

After the UF debacle, we were 4-3. We were out of contention. After that is when I would have like to have seen more KT without the training wheels. I think he probably could have / should have been starting by the Arkansas game (which he played a lot in anyway).

I don’t think it would have necessarily led to more wins, but we very possibly could have beaten Mizzou (Shapen had two pick-6’s, and 17 carries for only 16 yards). I also think we could have been more competitive with both UGA and OM. But the added reps would have been more valuable than any moral victories above.

Already said this too, but I can cut Lebby some slack here, because the starting QB switch to a more talented back-up almost universally takes longer than it should. Mullen may have never given Dak the reins until 2014 if Russell doesn’t get concussed in the opener, and also waited way too damn long to switch from Lee to Relf. Kiffin was all set with Austin Simmons and was never going to give Chambliss the job until he got hurt. And on and on. But, I still think we could have used some more KT in 2025.

I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain that this was during the Missouri game. The one that always comes to mind for me is a drive that we had sometime in the 2nd or 3rd quarter. KT led us all the way down the field, and then after a play that gave us a 1st and goal from somewhere around the 5 yard line, Lebby brings in Shapen to run the offense.

Eventually, Shapen did actually run it in for a TD which I'm sure is why more people didn't criticize the move, but it was just bizarre management of the two QBs

He would have not looked nearly as impressive last year, as he does now. I think holding him out and waiting for his improvement has brought the spotlight to him overwhelmingly.

Watching the beating he took in the bowl game, I support him not playing a ton. That OL was criminally bad. I still want the kid who transferred to Bama arrested
