I guess your name checks out, but how often were you experimenting with drugs? I have never felt the desire to do that. Always too afraid of the potential consequences. I don’t even like taking pain meds I’ve had a prescription for.

My gosh this is terrible even if not completely true! Drugs have always scared me, and outside of alcohol, I have never dipped a toe into the pool of drug use. It also scares the Sh*t out of me to think about my kid going off to college in the future.
I can tell you with certainty that students at both State and UM have died from drug overdoses since my kid enrolled at State, and those deaths have largely avoided media pickup unless the families have been the ones publicizing it.
There are multiple Narcan vending machines on UM campus, and I believe there's one in the union at State. They've been there for a few years now. Mississippi changed their law on Narcan in 2022 (I think? Could've been 2023) to allow them.

Interestingly, a Narcan dispensing machine in Oxford has been used over 800 times in less than 2 months.
It dispenses Narcan, fentanyl test strips, Narcan carry pouches, etc. So it isnt just 800 Narcan doses, to be clear.

OM parents are hearing all sorts of stories from the kids now. One parent of a college junior was told by her child that there are more than 5 confirmed student deaths.
Skeptical myself. Don't think it will deter many students from drinking and the usual recreational drug use, but it sure has parents in a panic.

I didn't take this as a shot at Louisiana, but more of a statement that a lot of drugs followed the surge in people. Lots of drugs come in to MS from TX/LA on I-10 and move their way up. They come from other places as well, but historically that's been the case for MS.
That's just horrible. Can't imagine getting that call as a parent.
Why are drugs like this even a thing? Isn't the point of being a drug dealer is to keep the buyer coming back and not kill them instantly?

It feels like it should be until you're drinking at a party with your running buddies and you're feeling bold - then one of them pulls out a pill and says 'let's try this.'

This is me, too. I don’t get the lacing stuff with heavier more potent stuff. There’s people on the streets that would love some extra Fent. But dealers are lacing other recreational stuff with it?

My experience in life with opportunities to do drugs as well as temptation to compromise character at work, etc. is that it is important that you think about those risks long before the thing happens. Decide before there is any pressure who you are going to be, and then when the inevitable comes, it is much easier to simply know what your answer is. And to your point, if you are super impaired from alcohol, you may not have any idea what decision you are making. I was fortunate that my few times of being stupid drunk did not overlap with life threatening suggestions from the people around me.
It sadly is legit. It is on the Oxford Police announcements and possibly Kratom was laced. I know everyone is saying dont take pills but all to often it isn't in pills, it is vapes that are laced. The first know fentanly laced vapes came out of Rankin County in 2017 I believe.
Yep. Even grass weed is laced now a days. Better to just get your med card so you know exactly where it’s coming from and is regulated.
Kratom in these gas stations has to be stopped.
Weed surely can be laced and I don't think it is as common but it does happen. Several years ago my neighbor lost a nephew and a friend of my wife lost her adult son due to it. Neither case never made the news.

Terrible to hear. Any parent who drinks in front of their kids absolutely 100% condones taking drugs and substances such as this. Can’t blame the kids. They are just doing what their parents taught them to do. It truly sucks that some people can’t handle reality. Absolutely horrible to hear about these kids.

When I was at State in the '60s, I didn't know of any widespread "recreational" drug use there. Nationwide there certainly was, if the news was correct and it probably was. During exams, I remember some talking about taking some sort of speed to stay up all night studying, but I certainly never tried that. It was referred to as dex, which must've been dextroamphetamine.
Will Cain just said on Fox News that 2 students had died from unknown causes and the only commonality was Kratom found with both. They stopped short of calling it a drug overdose, so the University and Oxford Police are apparently being very cautious with what they release.

The more that someone is certain that they are correct, the less likely they have enough life experience to be close to correct.
Both my kids got thru college without any drug issues. I thank God every day and can’t imagine the pain and guilt that those families are enduring. Most of my experiences with rec drugs was in the late 70’s all of the eighties and a few years in the 90’s. I can’t remember one OD Not one. This lacing is evil. Severe punishment needs to be exacted on the people selling this poison. I don’t blame the kids at all. It’s the mfg and wholesalers that need to be locked up or worse. God bless the families
