The headline of the article is misleading. Nobody called it the "Penn State Rule" and Dinich is the person who referenced Penn State. It's funny to me Dinich wants to frame it around Penn State. The OG crappy conference schedule making the playoff was 2024 Indiana. Yeah, her alma mater. I doubt she'd want to get into that.

Dinich is an a$$. She should go visit her Uncle Tanoose in Beirut.

It's probably going to be a moot issue, because I don't see this PSU team finishing 10-2 or better.

I dont either, I figure 11-1 is the floor. Have you watched Michigans offense or USCs defense? Both are boderline top 25 type teams right now. Michigans big win over Oklahoma aint looking so great after Oklahomas one TD beat down of New Mexico.

SEC "conference strength of schedule" is manufactured. These teams are ranked based playing each other. Is Auburn any good? Florida? Mississippi State? Who knows...
I generally think that is true, but the SEC has been phenominal in non conference play this year so far. Oklahoma losing to Michigan and Arkansas losing to Utah are the only losses. No losses to any non P4 teams. wins over Clemson, Louisville, Ohio State, Florida State.

Nothing ground breaking perhaps but this is very different than the Big Ten which has seen teams lose a ton of OOC games paticularly against the ACC. And Rutgers losing to UMass.

Like in 2025, a Big 10 team very well may end up winning the conference's fourth NC in a row, but I think that this conference is beginning to shape up as being rather mediocre overall. It doesn't help when Duke beats Illinois, Mississippi State crushes Minnesota on the road, Wake beats Purdue, Rutgers loses not only to BC but also UMass, Okie State breaks an eleven game losing streak by beating Oregon, and WMU beats Michigan (even though they lost).

Yeah, the mid to low tier of the Big Ten looks faily mediocre or even weak. I dislike the SEC but would begrudgingly admit that it's middle and lower programs tend to be stronger than the Big Ten (more "depth") which particularly seems to be the case with results so far this year. It doesn't help when ostensibly better programs in the Big Ten like Indiana, USC or Penn St don't play any power foes non-conference.

And people dont understand why it's important for the Big Ten to win nonconference games
Michigan beat OU was really the only good thing. Maybe NW over Colorado. Would have been nice if we tried.

The simple answer is to get rid of the committee. There is no other revenue league I'm aware of that "ranks" teams to determine playoff spots/seeding. If the NFL can get by swimmingly without rankings, why can't college football?

If the conferences would actually put aside their pride and perceived superiority long enough to appreciate the long green, they could have a 12-game schedule featuring in-conference games and out-of-conference games, just like the NFL does, which makes "strength of schedule" meaningless. No more cupcakes.

A nice side effect would be that it would give hacks like Dinich something less to pontificate upon. My goodness, sportswriters might have to find a real job!
The way to get rid of the committee is to have specific qualification criteria for each conference. Here is my ideal example:

14 team playoff
Top 4 BIG
Top 4 SEC
Top 2 Big 12
Top 2 ACC
1 Group of Five
1 at large/ND

The only committee involvement is selecting the one at-large team and the top Group of Five team.

It will never happen.

I’m good with that so long as “ND” is North Dakota.

That is what she is paid to do though, it is ESPN.
Vicious personal attacks because she's reporting information being considered by the CFP selection committee. Par for the course here at over reaction central.
The reading comprehension skills of many cannot comprehend the difference between opinion and reporting. Attacking her appearance and comments that would appear to be delivered by misogynists is routine here. We Are!

Agree with this summary.

Not sure we get out of October with less than 3 losses. We'll know how good we are by this time tomorrow night. I'm reserving judgement until I see us against a team with a pulse.
I fail to see how Wisky is a worthy opponent. If they prove to be, it could be a dicey season. This should be a minimum of 10 a point and more likely a 17 point win. PSU is home, has superior talent and experience.
Winning is hard, something the BWICAC failed to acknowledge here for over a decade. Suddenly, they try to create monsters out of the type of teams dismissed as "without a pulse" in the past.
PSU should pull away from Wisky and face a much greater test at Northwestern. To me, that's the game, that if they win, could indicate they are a double digit win team. Perhaps before the rank and file here expend their fury on potential qualifications for playoff berths, they could hold their collective fire until that victory occurs.

Penn State would benefit more than others if the playoff was expanded to 24 teams, particularly if the PSU NIL spend continues to be "meh". Schools like Iowa would as well. Given how many teams are in the Big 10, it will be tough to be in the top 4 year after year unless massive NIL $ are spent, which is the highest amount of teams the Big 10 will get into a 12 team playoff.

Penn State should stop playing football. Enough of the horse crap. Scale down, focus on education.

Our NIL money is way better than ",eh"
Can we please stop believing these "our info says" reports on NIL. It is not tracked. People act like Allar, Singleton and Kayton all played for free last year and that the Iowa State kids came for free because they like MCC.
But, yes, we might be the team that benefits the most from it along with Ole Miss, A&M, Oklahoma and Michigan

It's not chicken feed, but 6th or 7th in the Big 10 is "meh". We will likely never outspend Oregon, OSU, Indiana, or USC, and like it or not, that puts us at a relative disadvantage.

I don't agree that we dont outspend Indiana and USC. Last year we spent as much as anyone which is one of the primary reasons James was fires. We were just keeping our own guys so it wasn't as public. Even this year with it being Iowa State guys it wasn't looked at the same. Not everyone helping programs with NIL money is as transparent as it. Some don't want it known they're giving a specific players money. Others do. The guy bankrolling Indiana wants it known.

We're absolutely not 6th or 7th.

I'm not concerned with Wisconsin but the next three after that? I have know idea what we have because we haven't played anybody. I am hopeful but I will be more surprised by a 10-2 or better season than an 8-4 or worse season. Either way the playoffs are not likely reachable for this team.
