The SEC should revisit Mizzou being in the conference. Screw them.
Who are they, a junior member, to tell the SEC what they should do? MSU has had cowbells for over 70 years. Missouri is a pretentious bunch.
If a coach starts to complain about the bells - or, really, more than one coach- then I might worry about the SEC revisiting the rule. In the meantime, all Mizzou has to do is crank up their PA system when opposing teams have the ball. Just be sure to turn it off when the center is over the ball, or you will get fined.
Why be worried over a university who isn’t a charter member?

Way it’s always been. They were no problem through 50s 60s into the 70s while everyone was beating the **** out of us. When we started to win a few here and there, they become a big problem. Like clockwork.
I was watching on TV and almost always do; our fans do a good job of abiding by the rules. I can imagine as a visiting team or fan that the bells are unbearable b/c they are almost constant except when the team is over the ball.
For the most part, it seemed that the fans were complying with the rules last night. There are always a few individuals who do not, but they don't affect anything.
Auburn was the primary one who got them banned for a few years.
Also 17 Mizzou. If they want, let them bang rocks together or whatever their tradition is.

The SEC rule allows for the use of "traditional institutional noisemakers". State is the only SEC school that has traditional noisemakers.
I suppose another school could try to establish its own "traditional institutional noisemakers", but I'm not sure how one would go about that.
I think we do great at following the rules. A handful of cowbells ringing at the wrong time doesn't make a difference.
Seems like I post this every year...We don't really follow the letter of the rule, but the SEC doesn't seem to care. The rule for institutional noise (bands, cheerleaders, PA systems, and cowbells) is the noise should stop from the time the center is over the ball until the play is whistled dead. Obviously, we start ringing at the snap. AFAIK, no one has ever complained about it.
Their tradition is "creation of safe spaces"
I have a lot of friends who are Auburn grads, and a few of them think our home games are unwatchable due to the bells. I suppose turning down the volume never occurred to them. I always remind them their own AD, Jay Jacobs, assisted Scott Stricklin in getting the cowbell compromise passed.
I just looked up Jay Jacobs to check my own facts, and it looks like Stricklin gave him a job at Florida in 2018.
Just to clarify - the flying empty bourbon bottles don't make much noise but they could inflict bodily damage to individuals on the sideline.
