The Atlanta Dream, with three former Gamecocks, Allisha Gray, TeHina Pao-ao, and Madina Okot, along with defensive player of the year, Angel Reese, move on the the semifinals of the WNBA!

I would rather see the Fever do well with Ty Harris, Raven Johnson, Bree Hall and Aliyah Boston.

I would rather watch middle school boys basketball. The quality of play would be better and there wouldn't be nearly as much whining and bitching.
Well they are women (for now) and I am capable of watching and respecting it for what it is. I don't watch women's sports thinking about level of play compared to men, boys or church league. I have two daughters that played at the college level with one becoming an NCAA All American. I can't imagine telling them that they weren't any good because they couldn't beat a good mens high school player.

Similar situation. I do recall telling my daughter about playing with men, and just exactly why we started her on all girls teams at a certain age.

Yes I do.
At least I watch the games and have some knowledge rather than watch doctored YouTube videos produced by the "Caitlin Clark Channel". Most of the negative responders say they never watch the WNBA.
Nobody "loves" the WNBA. You might find an ok way to pass the time or to have something on in the background. But you don't love it.

You don't plan your schedule around watching WNBA games.

I watched the entire game. I turned off Gamecock football at halftime last Saturday.

If my daughter was playing a sport, I would watch her and her team play. Once she was no longer playing, I wouldn't watch one second of women's sports. They simply aren't enjoyable to watch for me.

Women's tennis is the only exception for me. I think women's tennis is more entertaining than men's because the women actually volley and place shots more than the men. The men rely too much on the ace serve and overpowering shots.

One of mine played tennis and she realized that practicing against the guys made her better. She would practice as much as she could against the boys teams in high school and college. They would whip her *** but she didn't care.

oddly, you never talk about middle school boys basketball on here. But you do talk a lot about the WNBA.

FWIW, I'm very much looking forward to watching the Fever tonight @ 9pm - but if they lose, they'll be out of the playoffs and I won't watch another game until next season.

I wasn't going to but I think I might tune in because of the stuff that happened in the last game.

I agree with your tennis exception. I also feel the same way about basketball. The men are all about the dunk and look at me I can run fast and jump high.

The NBA is not entertaining at all to me. Watching a basketball game where the rules specifically prevent defense is boring. College and HS basketball is very entertaining.

They have a chance. These are the type of games where Caitlin can get my respect. People think I am a Caitlin hater. Far from the truth, just a hardcore basketball head that doesn't believe in accolades given to players before they earn them. She can earn something tonight if she plays the way she did on Tuesday night. The amazing thing lost in all the hoopla about A'ja in the last couple of days is Caitlin's play in that elimination game. You can't be outstanding for 1 game as a superstar though. You have to string big games together.

The game goes in cycles and the best players determine how the game is played. Steph Curry can barely dunk. Don't think he is a Top 10 player ever? Shai Gilgeous Alexander is not really athletic either. More of a skilled, mid-range jump shooter. He has won back-to-back MVPs. Nikola Jokic won back-to-back MVPs before that and he can barely jump over a sneaker. The problem is a lot of people don't love the game enough to have patience with it. They get made at referee calls. They get mad that their team didn't win and give up on it. If you have patience, the game will eventually come back around to you.

Actually, the rules in basketball are more uniform than they have ever been. The only real difference on defense is that the NBA has restrictions on zone defenses where you can't just hang out in the lane for 3 seconds without guarding someone. The hand-checking rules are essentially the same. The one big difference is the NBA allows the extra gather step with regard to traveling. However, that rule doesn't bother me because I have never believed the game has to be one thing. Calling the game consistently is the most important thing to me.

You are arguing about specific trees when I am talking about the overall forest. Larry Bird couldn't jump very well either but he is in the hall of fame. It has nothing to do with the fact that the NBA is more about individualism than playing as a team. The women have to play as a team.

I doubt the Fever will win though. I have watched A'ja pick a team up and carry them to victory too many times. I think she will do it again but anything is possible.

I understand everything you are saying. However, what I am telling you is the forest is changing. I just named a few to illustrate that they lead the sea change. Also, it is sort of hard to showcase the college game as not exhibiting individualism when you have people transferring everywhere and trying to get their numbers up for NIL. In my experience, the game always becomes what the best players are. In the 80s, you had Bird and Magic as the best players. They needed a more team-oriented style to be successful and that is what they did. However, when Mike came along. He said their is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in win. That style won. So, the game constantly changes. Most don't keep up with it.

Travelling doesn't really exist in the NBA, it is very rarely called regardless of how many steps a player takes. I don't like the restriction on zone defense. If a team wants to camp a defender out in the lane, they should be able to. That means a skilled outside shooter can be all alone outside the 3 point line and make the defense pay for that defender camped out in the lane. I appreciate a basketball team that plays sound defense and the NBA wants high scoring games, so they have rules that make sound defense much more difficult. The NBA really wants 5 1 on 1 games going on on the court.

If you like NBA basketball, that is fine with me. I don't like it, but that doesn't mean either one of us is wrong.

...and as a person that actually just likes basketball, there is not much difference. In fact, P4 Conferences get referees that are not retained by the NBA all the time. If you watched both, you would know this. Also, if you looked at how a lot of the top college teams play now, they play just like NBA teams. Alabama's system with Nate Oats is the same as any NBA team. Coach Cal has always coached his teams to prepare them for the NBA. Further, why do you think UNC just hired Mike Malone who just coached an NBA team to the championship 3 years ago. The lines have been blurred between college and the NBA for at least the last 10-15 years. However, if you have convinced yourself of something and don't pay attention, you won't know.

I obviously don't care about basketball nearly as much as you do, so I'm sure you are right about all of that. College basketball becoming more like the NBA feels to me like college football becoming more like the NFL, I don't like either one of those things.

We don't agree much, but on this I agree. Your world championship match has to go into penalty kicks because no one can score? How can anyone call that great?
Any "sport" that allows ties, isn't much of a sport.

I did watch the World Cup Finals just because it was a championship game. However, I found myself saying "What kind of BS is this?" about 15-20 times during the match.

Yeah, I am the one that loves negativity and drama- and the folks whining like 3 year olds about this all day long aren't
negative or involved in the drama.
