I just read the article on the details of Schiano's buyout. I didn't think this night could get any worse, but it did.
It’s about 17–18 million after this season and would be 11–12 after next iirc. I I’ve thought next year was the crucial year for him becaue of the buyout but that was barring a disaster season, like 3 wins or less. You can’t take that off the table after tonight.

Why was Flats let go? Or did he want to leave?
I don't know aside from media articles that said his contact was not renewed

"– Pat Flaherty will not return to Rutgers football, the offensive line coach having played a pivotal role in the rebuilding of his unit into one of the best in the Big Ten.

Flaherty had spent the last three years with the Rutgers program. On Tuesday, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said that the veteran offensive line coach has an expiring contract that will not be renewed."

What’s makes him think he knows how to get there lol

Obviously he doesn't but he always keeps the stiff upper lip. The post game guy on WFAN mentioned Greg's post game comments and sounded like he was probably rolling his eyes. He was like "can he change things up?" Greg's act is tired. He's not a bad coach but he cant make an offense without getting lucky with recruits every five years. Kelly won BE title at Cincy with a bunch of 2 stars

No way was the offense restricted. It was just horrible. Awful QB play. Where did Raymond go? And how the flying you know what did greg not pull Lonergan after the second pick? It’s Greg fault just different from restrict lol INCOMPETENCE.
According to him he only pulled Lonergan because he was hurt.

Schiano restricts offense? That is his Kirk’s offense, boring and predictable.

Let’s get it straight. The Defense was so bad that the offense would have had to be perfect. They were far from it. The line of scrimmage was dominated by UM on both sides of the ball. Wait until they start Big10 play, how ugly can it get? I see 80-0 Michigan again in the future.

hate to say I told you so but we didn't bring anyone in on D that was big caliber and Greg restricts the offense

let Kirk free!
I said it months ago. The loss of talent on D in the Portal { Walker, Bo Mascoe, Henderson etc.} was far far better than the talent brought in. The Linebackers brought in Yikes. Not B1G caliber.

When what’s left of the student section in the 4th quarter (most ardent fans) start an f-Schiano chant you know he’s lost all support. What a way to grow a program. shite the bed in the first game of your freshmen year.

This article. And the quotes attributed to Schiano sum up his tenure. “Didn’t see it coming”. Really? It’s your job to see it coming. It’s your job not to be surprised by anything. This team was the most ill prepared team I have seen in any sport on any level. This coaching staff took UMass for granted and didn’t prepare for this game. They overlooked UMass. They had no answers on all 3 phases of the game. Rutgers looked confused on both O and D.

From the article;

And this was no flukey loss. UMass pushed Rutgers around on both sides of the ball for three excruciating hours. The Minutemen, who hadn’t beaten an FBS team in 34 months (and that was Army), rattled off 24 straight points in the first half like they were the ones paying the $1.5 million for the easy W to start the season.

It was the worst loss in Schiano’s 208 career games in Piscataway. But don’t stop there. This is worse than any result Chris Ash had in his three-plus years, worse than any defeat that Kyle Flood suffered, and rivals the worst defeats of the long-forgotten Terry Shea years. At least, back then, Rutgers was barely trying

This was supposed to be the year that Schiano finally had the resources he needed to build a roster that would compete in the Big Ten. Zinn found him that money, a roster payroll that she confirmed to be between $20-$30 million, with the expectation that Rutgers would improve on its 5-7 finish a year ago.

If Rutgers decided to part ways with head coach Greg Schiano following the 2026 season, the Scarlet Knights would owe their head coach roughly $18.5

Here is a full buyout breakdown:

+ Buyout drops to $11.7 million after the 2027 season
+ Buyout drops to $5.9 million after the 2028 season
+ Buyout drops to $0 after the 2029 season

Ash was way worse in every way, doesn't excuse last night at all but Politi just wants drama and clicks. Buffalo, EMU, KU, and on. He never won (opposed to GS and even KF) on top of it.

If they lose next week, or Howard, its curtains...and I like Greg, his motivation, his love for Jersey...but man, it's tough to defend him unless a MIRACLE turnaround happens NOW

Such a national embarrassment. I’ve had friends call and/or text me from CA, OH, MA, FL, VA, and CO to laugh and rub it in. Not to mention the people at work today.

Agreed. It's now when this incredibly awful season ends. She knew what she was getting into when she accepted this role, but I don't envy the position she is in. Schiano has really put her, the dept. and the school at large in a horrible, horrible position.

Nuclear option with Schiano. Pull back significantly on NIL funding for football, which will have players leave with the inability for Schiano to continue wasting those funds on losses.

He can either then negotiate a better buy out which will be advantageous for both him and the school or continue to rot over a program he claims to care so much yet is nothing but mostly failure under his leadership.

I could see this getting contentious, fast. Keli and the dept. are under no obligation to continue funding his failure. He can choose to fail more with less funds or do the honorable thing.
