Well, Meryl Streep is playing Aslan, so there's that.
I know. Not a deal breaker on face value.

But, I named my son after Clive Staples Lewis: Jack.

ETA: His works are clearly personal to me. I'll watch them all...if they can make them all. My guess is they'll get 3 books in and fizzle out.

The said lion is the representation of Christ. Streep doesn't believe in God or prayer. It's a very Disney-esque move. But, Lewis was also once Athiest, so maybe she sees the light. She already thinks she's a god.
I get that, but there's no need to preshlt on it.

I'm disappointed, although, I'm not a big CS Lewis fan anyway. I guess we can continue to go the Disney route of attempting to change the narratives to what we want, rather than what was intended.

With whom are you disappointed?

If you're not a big Lewis fan, why are you up in arms?

Why do you keep mentioning Disney?

ETA: You didn't answer the question. You didn't get the reference. You're just big mad & spewing talking points.

It’s called acting - the personal beliefs of the
actor/actress are itrelevant.

The biggest problem with Streep’s voice as Asian is that Liam Neeson is still alive. It’d be like letting Helen Mirren voice Darth Vader if James Earl Jones was still living. Yes she’s an accomplished actor, but he’s kinda made that characters voice his own.

On top of that, it’s a Lion with a mane. Not sure how many zoologist are on SPS but that indicates something.

Jesus is a fairy tale just like this movie/book
Jesus is a historical figure actually referenced outside of the Bible if you care to look. Pontus Pilate sent a man to report back to him on Jesus. You should read what he wrote. Many other accounts of Jesus. Jesus is also in the Jewish records they keep of the generations all the way back to Adam. It’s recorded history. Why would Jesus be fictional, while the Sumerians are real? Cleopatra? There’s way more evidence of Jesus’s birth, death and resurrection.

I will always be mad that we didn't get this with Tilda Swinton. My favorite book in the series.

Agree. She made the Witch her own. This book is a witch-heavy book and she would have killed it.

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the Horse & his Boy being made. The bad guys in that one are problematic for the current Hollywood climate. They should’ve made Silver Chair while Will Poulter, the kid who played Eustace in Dawn Treader, was still young. He was excellent as well.

So, similar to the marketed effectiveness of your sperm donor's condom and your "mom's" birth control pills, huh?

Some of you guys legit prove the point of Gandhi, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

I'm guessing from the trailer she feminized it by making Digory a wimp and Polly the strong one. And Jadus using magic on earth? The whole point was that she couldn't!

Is there nothing original in the world anymore?

And after seeing "a film by Greta Gerwig," I've seen enough already.
The unoriginality is just astounding.

I liked Lady Bird pretty well. And while I only saw it once and can only assume I wasn't the target audience, Barbie was at least interesting.

In my head, Puddleglum sounds like Graham Chapman in the Monty Python Flying Sheep sketch. This is the accent I read him with when I read it to my kids.

Greta's career peaked to me when she starred alongside Russell Brand in that terrible Arthur reboot.

But I fully acknowledge that my take is subjective.

I'm the opposite. Hollywood is so bad now, I'd love for them to take a proven IP and just not 17 it up. Yes, there are things that you have to change when you are going from a book to a movie, but you don't need to have a female voice a lion. How is that even going to work?

You have a guaranteed money maker if you just stick to the original story to the extent you can. You have a built in audience if you don't alienate them. I don't know if it's just that they don't like the target audience, don't like the original author or its message, or what. I could get the script writers wanting to make a major change so that they can take more credit for the writing, but why would you mess with casting as a film maker? You're already taking other people's material. How you execute it is what matters. Nobody gave Peter Jackson less credit because he followed the LOTR books. Why not just execute and be happy being recognized a great film maker and printing money?

ETA: I would agree on Barbie. I thought it was great for what it was. Lots of people in hollywood would have leaned into the girl power/girl boss messaging hard enough to ruin the movie. She made a good movie first, and the messaging actually fit into it and did not distract from the story.
