I found something out at my specialist today…

My latest update:
So I found out that, in order to do my nearly 4 hours of MRIs with contrast, they’re going to use a local anesthetic and strong pain medication so that I can at least tolerate the mind-boggling pain. 🙏🏼

I am afraid the young woman injured my spine pretty bad when I tried to tell her I have my own way of getting in position. MRI’s are nothing new to me just much worse as far as pain and damage to my spine goes.

I’m sorry as well, after a good many surgeries a man get’s tired of the knife. No matter why or for what. I wish you the absolute best in yours. Praying for you.
Came out ok. No toes now. Spine is a trash of arthritis. MRI of my head came out muddled. Referred to a neurologist, but nothing immediate. I lost count of the surgeries on what is left of my feet, and I have trouble talking now, but I am still ready to ROCK!

That’s the type of attitude it takes to have lots of surgeries and keep going! I’m very pleased to hear you made it through yours, and I’ll be praying for you. If you don’t mind me asking, what is it that caused your health issues? You can PM me if you’d rather, or you don’t have to say at all. Just know you’ll absolutely be in my prayers! I knew exactly what you meant when you said you were tired of the knife, though, as I’ve had so many hernia surgeries, along with a cervical lymphadenectomy to remove extremely swollen and very dark-colored lymph nodes from my neck. At one point, they were worried I had lymphoma. Thank goodness I didn’t. This is going to be my worst surgery by far, even after multiple spinal surgeries, with my last one being literally as large as they get, according to my surgeon team that did my last one at Vanderbilt—all 12-plus hours of it. That’s the thing about ankylosing spondylitis, especially when you have it as aggressively as I do: it just doesn’t give a damn. In just several years, between it and muscular dystrophy, I’m fighting for my life. I’ve had a complete and utter breakdown of my last surgery, and my spine has twisted and become completely wrecked. I doubt I have very long left with as bad as things have gotten now. All I want is to get this monstrosity of a surgery over with and enjoy as much of life as I can. Maybe I’ll get fortunate and live longer than expected. You can talk to me anytime by the way.

I need to update the thread. I never thought I’d find myself so close to death. I’ve been severely suffering from the inability to urinate. Now this is an incredibly embarrassing issue I’m suffering incontenance of the bowel. However what’s worse is lately my blood-oxygen levels have been running in the 70’s and 80’s. With many results running as low as 64-66. My heart is acting crazy like usual with high heart rate Afib. (Atrial Fibrillation) with a left bundle branch block. Everything but the heart problems are coming from what happens when the foreman is squeezing the heck out of my spine. Especially what the incredibly aggressive version of Ankylosing Spondylitis and Muscular Dystrophy cause. I still haven’t had my 4 hours worth of MRI because my spine is in to bad of shape to lay on my back without a local anesthetic so I can tolerate it (my local hospital doesn’t provide that service). I should already be at the Mayo Clinic letting them do my updated MRI and for surgery but my Fiancé of 15 years is literally about a month or less from having a life changing procedure that completely reverses the spasticity in her legs where she can go right back to not only walking again but being fully independent. I’m trying to see it through, but at the same time worried about dying in my sleep or brain damage at the least. I don’t know how I’ve made it so far especially lately. It’s so embarrassing to say what I’ve just said but it’s only occasional or I’ll have random days rather where i don’t have to deal with it

Apparently I’m dying. First let me explain what if you have the patience. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis in the worst way at only age 38, along with Muscular Dystrophy. Point is I have been doing just as AS says in the most aggressive cases like my mine, Vascular Disease would be what brings me down. I’ve literally been leaking blood like an oil change out of my mid to lower leg’s below the knee. I’ve battled the 17 out of this disease and although I’m only 38 going on 39 I’m sick of having the largest spinal surgery ever done at Vandy. Now I’ve had a full breakdown of that surgery nevermind the one before that. Of course I’ll keep pushing forward and try to live through the next surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Another 14-16 hour minimum full 20 plus level annular fusion from complete breakdown of my spine already. I’m sorry to complain I just got some pretty devastating news today. You guys have no idea how hard I’ve debated putting this on here. Sorry if it bothers you guys. I absolutely had to get it out.
We are with you, and I hope you feel our prayers.

hey @DawgsNCowboys87

I've been reading all of your updates this morning, and just want you to know how grateful I am that you shared this information, your diagnosis, your struggles, your changing health battles, and where you are today.

Look, you have taken the hard hits, and still fighting, and moving forward, and thinking about your fiancé's well being....... that's big time character!

I'm praying for you today, and your relationship with Jesus, and that you know that no matter what the future holds, your life, and sharing of your struggles had meaning, and inspiration, and in everything you have faced in your physical struggle, you have made a difference in mine, and many others lives, and I know that the Good Lord above "sings" over you. I slept 2 hours and 26 mins and I want each of you to know how grateful I am of your support and kindness. I will write something to each of you later on as I’m going to try and nap a bit. I was hurting to bad to sleep on one side. So now I try the other side. Although all of me hurts crazy bad my spine is so twisted and my rib cage hurts too. Anyways that’s enough complaining that’s to everyone for their support and I couldn’t be more grateful. I will get back to y’all

Thanks to everyone again from the bottom of my heart for their kindness and prayers. I was going to write everyone a personal message thanking them just how much they truly mean. Problem is I keep nodding off and am beyond exasperated and exhausted. I can’t even get more that this typed once tonight. So you guys have my word just like always I’ll get to it as soon as I’ve had sort of rest. I apologize because several messages nearly brought me to tears. Please understand I’m unbelievably exhausted and just dosed off then ewe on and off. Finally composed myself enough for this. I’m sorry.

Have been and will continue to pray for you. Praying God will do a miraculous healing. If that is not in His will, I pray for comfort and strength to endure.
Not sure if this is OK here but,

Heavenly Father, I come to you right now to lift up DawgsNCowboys87. You are the God that cleansed lepers, brought Lazurus back to life, and healed the bleeding lady who touched your garment. Lord, I pray that you would show up in a mighty way and give healing to DawgsNCowboys87. Let it be a testimony to bring honor and glory to your name. If this is not in your will, I acknowledge that your ways are wiser than ours. Then I pray for comfort and peace beyond understanding. I pray for others in his life that are giving him support and hurting emotionally with him. I don't know DawgsNCowboys87 and don't know his relationship with you. So Lord, most of all I pray that is he doesn't know you now, that your Holy Spirit will draw him to you and he will surrender the remaining of his life to you. If he does know you, that he will feel your presence and lean on you.
In Jesus holy name, Amen

Continuing to pray for your comfort. It is really tough when you can't get enough sleep. Is there any way for you to get a sleep aid prescription? I can identify with finding a position to sleep.

Amen and yes I’m sure I could be a better man as there’s always strides to be made. I hold myself accountable of my sins daily and I may curse here and there but I’ve seen to it I don’t take the lords name in vain. Of course it’s fine and I actually have a really close relationship with the lord. I appreciate you praying for me more than I can express.

im so sorry to receive the most beautiful and kind deep caring messages from ya’ll and the least I can do is read them one by one and reply. I swear I will yall. I just been deeply struggling to keep my eyes open as I slept absolutely horribly atop all my issues. Please understand folks maybe I’ll have the energy today as I’m laying back down now. Skip Dog and everyone of you I’ll get to. I’m sorry to put it off again. Then again I don’t think ya’ll are doing this purely for my reaction. Talk to yall today. I gave it a try and started dosing my oxygen saturation is 82% I also can’t really focus either. My spine is murdering me. Sorry for the long message that took me forever to type. I’ll be caught up right away. I am absolutely heart warmed and beyond grateful!!

You can relax on your sins, you have asked for forgiveness and Jesus gave us forgiveness if we believe and ask for it a couple of thousand years ago . Just ask him to share HIS strength and HIS peace with you now and he always will . We'll be praying for the same for you . You are not and will never be alone.....Never give up !

I'll be praying for you. I honestly can't imagine what you are going through, but you are my age and it honestly makes me count my blessings.
Back when I graduated high school and college, I would’ve never dreamed I’d be fighting all of this starting in just a few years. I didn’t know I had ankylosing spondylitis, muscular dystrophy, as well as Marfan syndrome. I thought my first spinal surgery, a lumbar fusion, was only due to degenerative disc disease.

Then, after that, my pain management Dr. sent me to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with AS and muscular dystrophy, and Marfan syndrome was diagnosed at Vanderbilt, where I had literally the largest single surgery ever done by them. It was around 20 levels at once, roughly a 13-hour surgery. I have hardware from the very top level, about shoulder-blade width, all the way down to my lumbar spine, with a lot of lab-made parts. I woke up five days, I think, or closer to a week later when they took me off intubation.

Anyways, I’ll shorten this, as I’ve said enough. My apologies. Now I’m literally fighting for my life, as the surgery has failed and I have catastrophic failure of the spine and the surgery. Instead of discs between my vertebrae, I have large bone spurs that have grown. I also have a bad bone marrow issue blocking the signal, as well as spinal stenosis, where my foramen is squeezing my spine and causing these issues with my lungs, urination, among many other embarrassing things.

So sorry for the lengthy reply. I was checking my blood-oxygen saturation and started to doze. It felt good, kind of, to get some of it out, I apologize again. Thanks again for the prayers and kind words!!

hey @DawgsNCowboys87

I've been reading all of your updates this morning, and just want you to know how grateful I am that you shared this information, your diagnosis, your struggles, your changing health battles, and where you are today.

Without a doubt, you are one brave "SumBitch" (**correct spelling for those of us that KNOW Smokey and the Bandit is a cinematic masterpiece)

I want you to know that reading all of your updates made me think the following:
-as men, we all struggle to expose our weaknesses.....you didn't, you shared in a place where you had common community. I'm grateful you reached out.
-no matter what any of us is going through, sometimes others are fighting something even harder......you are fighting a unbelievable health battle, and facing it head on....... We should all learn from your bravery

**where are you currently?**

Man, I honestly don’t even know how to properly reply to something like this other than to say thank you. Seriously. That means more to me than I can probably put into words right now.

And yes, I’m the one who called myself a tough “SumBitch” to begin with, so I definitely appreciated the Smokey and the Bandit clarification. I agree completely cinematic masterpiece lol.

I’ve always been the type to keep a lot of this stuff to myself, especially the worst parts. I think you’re right that as men we have a tendency to do that. We’ll talk about almost anything before admitting we’re scared, hurting, or that things have gotten beyond what we can handle ourselves. I guess at some point all of this became too big to keep bottled up, and this community felt like somewhere I could actually talk about it without feeling like I was just dumping it on somebody.

As far as where I’m currently at, I’m still trying to hold everything together long enough to see my fiancée through what should hopefully be a life-changing procedure for her. After 15 years together, the thought of leaving her right when she’s this close to possibly getting her independence and ability to walk back is something I’m having an incredibly hard time accepting. At the same time, I know my own situation has gotten beyond extremely serious, and I’m not pretending otherwise. I’m just trying to make the best decisions I can with an absolutely terrible hand.

What you said about character really got to me because I don’t feel brave most of the time. Most days I just feel like I’m doing whatever I have to do to make it to the next one. But if sharing all of this has helped even one person look at their own life differently, appreciate something they might have taken for granted, or realize they aren’t alone in whatever they’re fighting, then maybe there is some meaning in putting it all out there.

And I genuinely appreciate the prayers. I really do. What you said about my life and struggles having meaning hit me harder than you probably realize. When you’re dealing with this much physically, and you don’t know what the next few months—or even the next few days—are going to look like, thoughts like that start carrying a whole different weight.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of that mess I’ve posted and then taking even more time to write something like this back to me. I won’t forget it. God bless you, brother. Seriously!

They must be a great support team for you.
God Bless Sir
Keep Fighting
Thank you very much for the prayers!! Well, as far as family, they do what they can, and I’m very grateful, obviously, but my mom isn’t a part of my life, and her side of the family is in Louisiana. My dad died in a hunting accident when I was 8. I do, however, have my grandmother, who is 89 but otherwise does pretty well. I’ve got a very helpful aunt, and my uncle is down as of now with a healing broken femur. I am lucky enough that we have two workers who come out to help my fiancée with a few things I can’t, and they also help me. Can’t leave out some great cousins willing to help if needed. God bless you as well, and I’ll definitely keep up the fight!

Man I’m terribly sorry you’re having to go through this. Health is sometimes easy to forget but when you don’t have it then it becomes everything. I’m praying for the Lord to heal you but also I am praying for your soul.

Romans 3:10-12
10 as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”

The only way to be saved is to believe the Lord Jesus Christ died and was resurrected for your sins.

Romans 10:8-11
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

I pray you can see your fiancée through her procedure and I pray you will be alleviated of some pain. Maybe state can pull through today for you!

I woke up in pain but please tell me it makes no difference what church I’ve attended all my life. My family are members of the 1st United Methodist church. Just want your opinions not that I’d change it.

The church does not matter. All the matters is your relationship with God. We've all sinned, we all know it. Jesus died to pay the price for our sins and he called us to repent (turn from sin and trust his guidance for our lives). Believe these things, believe he raised himself from the dead thus justifying himself in that he is God, and seek his guidance. That's it. Talk to Him, seek His guidance. The rest is man made stuff. Pour over His words in the gospel and talk to Him.

I don't post on here but ive been reading this page for a long, long time. I honestly want you to know that you and your fam are being lifted up in prayer.
That absolutely means the whole world to me that you, someone who doesn’t even post here took the time to let me know my family and I are being lifted up by prayer! I mean it from my entire heart thank you again for taking your time to post and pray for me. I was really struggling and had a very hard day even by my standards also dosing off while typing but your message spoke to me.
