FWIW, this is the last game this year where we'll be a solid underdog. We're likely a small underdog or coin flip at Washington, and then a TD+ favorite over the rest (and multiple TD favorite against Rutgers)...and @Grant Green can keep me honest on those numbers if he'd like. These types of comments are the same thing we heard in 2020 when people predicted we wouldn't win a game, or last year when people predicted we'd lose out. We've had some bad results, but it's not like we're suddenly on a collision course with a winless Big Ten season as some seem to believe. Something less than 7-5 at this point would be a pretty big failure.

I didn't say we wouldn't win another game, but 6-6 wouldn't be a shock as neither would 8-4 or 7-5 at this point. This isn't a strong team and the beauty of Vegas numbers is they will adjust one way or another depending on how the games do play out. So many people shot their mouths off about the easy schedule and how anything less than 10 wins would be a disappointment. The reality is people love to pretend or think they are smarter than they are (myself included, we all do it), but this is not a good team and it has severe talent issues in key spots.

Right now, this looks like the worst PSU team since 2003. However, like I've said, they were beating a one loss team by ten points with eight minutes to go in one game and played a one score game against another one loss team that probably will be the best team that they'll play this season. After this next game, they'll mostly play teams on their level or worse in talent, and most of those games will be at home, so 7-5 is viable even with this roster.

You curiously missed a Big Ten Championship in his third year. Followed by 11-2. 9-4, 11-2
Then 13-3 in 2024, then 2025 3-3 fired. See I asked a straight forward question about support for the current coach if he can't do better than 8-4. You made it about Franklin. Franklin was 104-45. You can step up and declare that Campbell will have a better won loss percentage. Go ahead.
I will declare that once Campbell's term as PSU HC is over he will not be the owner of the worst start in PSU history. I think BGJ has that one securely locked down.

Barring a significant change (like Becht injury), I have PSU as a TD+ favorite against every team left on the schedule except UW. I have that game close to a pickem with Desmond Williams, but I think I may be a little higher on UW than the market. PSU a 3 to 3.5 favorite at UW with their backup (although he didn't do terrible in relief last week garbage time).
I think Penn state is better off with a Becht injury

Becht played well last week--we have no idea if we'd be better off with or without him (no one ever knows) but you can't blame last week on him.
Really need Howard back but last week was a good step forward.

He was better against USC, but still inconsistent. Better off with a youngster getting reps, especially if he has a stronger arm

Bett off for next year but if the goal is still to win games this year then that's untrue
He wasn't that inconsistent against Southern Cal--not sure what you're looking for that would be consistent. All QBs miss throws and reads in every game.

Better off with Grunk, but some of us knew that months ago.
There were "holdover" PSU staff that warned CMC that some of the ISU talent he was considering for transfer to PSU were not going to fit well in the Big Ten. CMC chose to listen to his ISU staff and forge ahead.
Once he made that decision, I can see why he brought Becht.
Hindsight is 20-20 and I'm sure if he saw the season unfolding as it has, he might have done things differently. I can't kill him on the QB decision alone. I am concerned that the coach we were told was a premier talent evaluator and a massive in game management improvement over Franklin, has been conspicuously absent to date.
We certainly are not experiencing an uptick in recruiting either.
Today IMO is important. Michigan isn't a good team either. A win today can build some positive momentum to close the season with optimism that is sorely needed. The remaining 5 games are all winnable. Rutgers 0-3, Maryland 0-3, Washington 1-3 in conference. Not exactly murderers row.
Please don't tell me Purdue has more talent either.
