The final 1/3 of the season is where it all comes to a head. Unless K1 heals quickly we’re gonna be 4-4 and we have 4 winnable games at the end. Need K1 to be healthy for that stretch. 7-5 but 7-1 with a healthy K1 is a foundation to make a run next year.

I don't think State would fire Lebby even if State finishes 5-7.

However without Taylor, State is losing next week. Vandy and TT are the must wins to have any hope of selling a season ticket next season.

OUs D line is going the be living in the backfield next week. Possibly having K1 back won’t matter.
OU offense sucks. But their defense is much better than LSU. We’re not winning this game without KT & Fluff 100%. And they probably won’t even play much less be close to 100%.

I’m not seeing that 4th winnable game. Maybe not even 3rd.

The problem is that a decision must be made about Lebby that is independent of Kamario. The carousel happens way before the portal happens.

Say we go 6-6 / 7-5 after K1 comes back, keep Lebby in late November, then K1 gets a godfather offer and bolts in the portal in January. Then what? We’re basically just holding the bag for 10 more months at that point.

If K1 ends up playing in 10 or more games, anything less than 8 wins is an abject failure for Lebby. He has to be evaluated based on the totality of the regime, and in no way does he get a get out of jail free card because we might have an elite 3rd year QB here in 2027. Plenty of other great coaches and OC’s that could do wonders with K1’s skillset. Lebby isn’t special.

We have zero chance of making a run next year if we don’t change our S&C approach, overhaul both lines and their coaching

If Lebby is fired, I would give it about a 5 percent chance of Taylor staying.

So everyone on here was predicting 4 or fewer wins at the beginning of the season, but now if we don’t win 8, it’s an abject failure? Way to move those goalposts.

The two teams that beat us are way more talented with depth. We have to get better lineman on both sides of the ball and lord knows get healthy.
I don't believe Lebby will be fired after this season, now some or many want him gone. Our defense played way better than our offense yesterday.
Watching OU last night gives me hope playing at home IF KT and Fluff play.

If Lebby wins 6 games he won’t be fired. If he goes 5-7 after a 4-0 start is it worth keeping him for any player?
I don’t believe you keep any head coach because you’re scared any player may leave. Players come and go. With a head coach you are trying to establish a program. Not sure 5-7 gets him fired anyway. All those winnable games looking ahead 3 weeks ago look different now. Not unwinnable, but different. Things always change as the season goes on.

No I’m just pointing out the wishful thinking that Taylor would stay is not likely to happen.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if he stays or if he doesn’t if the supporting cast doesn’t change. And it still may not matter even if it improves in some areas….if the coaching and gameplanning isn’t up to par.

I don't have any faith that our administration will get it right, or anywhere close to right, with the next hire. So to me I would rather us go year to year. Best case scenario for us is for Lenny to get to 7/8 wins and look good doing it, which will kinda keep Taylor and the rest convinced they can win big. The problem is that is hanging on by a thread, as we're basically being exposed as a 1.5-man team.

Our S&C is plumb terrible. Good news is that it can change over the course of an offseason. Not sure what we can do about line personnel though, at least as far as next season. Might be stuck with them, minus Canon Boone, which is a killer.

It sure seems like every year we have a bunch coming back we always seem to lose a stalwart. Same on defense.

I can tell you this. If K1 leaves for anywhere after this season, I'm completely done with supporting college athletics. I know there are others like me. If we can't keep a generational talent that grew up in the shadow of Davis-Wade, there's really no point in doing college athletics at State. Lebby is tied to K1, so we aren't getting rid of him if we improve over last season.

Lebby has improved every season he's been here. I expect that. Anyone trying to say we now have to win 8 games if K1 is healthy is just a Lebby hater that wants to find an excuse to rail on him. Y'all are some wishy washy folks. The prediction thread is available. If you predicted 4 or fewer wins, you have forfeited the right to say how many we have to have now. Just say thank you and move on.

Yeah, I mean I can’t argue that logic at all.

I didn’t post in the prediction thread, mainly because nothing between 3-9 and 7-5 would have surprised me. But I believe that in general, the record is just one piece of the puzzle when evaluating a coach, albeit the biggest piece.

If anyone knew before the season that we would have the most physically gifted QB in all of college football, who would go on to landing on midseason Heisman Top 5 lists, my guess is that everyone would say that less than 8 wins would be embarrassing, and highly suggestive of how poorly we built the other 21 positions on the roster. As new information becomes available, expectations should also change accordingly.

I just looked at the OU/UK box score and they actually outgained UK. Were leading in 3rd quarter. Apparently Mateer threw 4 picks, which made the difference.

If he decides to actually play well, we are going to lose. Hopefully now with 3 losses, they may have quit.

It worked pretty well this year, till the injuries.

Would you fire a guy that was 4-0 till the injuries happened?
If he loses 7 straight Div I-A games, yeah. Injuries happen. You have to have a plan n to deal with them. Apparently his plan included recruiting a backup qb he’s never going to play & rely on a walkon and to rely on 2 RB who can’t run over the 1 who can run but can’t pass block (at some point, like now, you’re just going to have to get him in the rotation & live with the blocking).

It takes money to buy quality depth.
