Not being overly pessimistic, but I'd call that free money.

If every single player we had plays to their maximum potential, I could see us winning, but how often do we do that? Our offense has been fantastic, but I believe good defense beats good offense most days. UT's D just took a wrecking ball to Alabama's previously prolific offense.

I'd like to feel better about it, but I was waiting to see how fared against Bama. They fared quite well, unfortunately.

Would it shock anyone if Texas and Bama are in the market for Head Coaches after this season? Some schools do not settle for mediocrity as their destiny. I admire that.

Manning is getting the lion's share of criticism for Texas' losses, but a few folks are beginning to wonder about Sark's QB development. First Quinn Ewers never developed the way fans thought he would. He was very good but never as good as his potential was hyped to be. Now Manning is following a similar track.

It could just be that neither QB was as good as their hype. But some questions are starting to surface about Sark.

When Arch Manning was being recruited by every team on the planet, an ESPN writer wrote that if his last name was Smith, he would be a three star player. I think he is sort of typical of the private Christian school 5 star player. They are physically gifted and pile up gaudy statistics against a bunch of opponents who look like they are in some sort of Make a Wish program.

haha. you are right. I've seen some of his HS film and the opponents looked 1A or worse. I think Sark is fine as long as he gets a legitimate QB. I'd keep him before I keep deboer

Just wait until Marshall Manning's recruitment gets going. If he's able to make the throwing motion, he'll be the first 6* player in recruiting history.

I read some "insider" stuff about Marshall. Apparently, Peyton and Kirby are big buddies. They met on a recruiting trip when both were in HS and became friends and have stayed friends. The insider says UGA has the inside track on Marshall because Peyton wants him to play for Kirby.

Who knows if there is any truth to that. I will say, he plays at Baylor HS in Chattanooga, that is not some Podunk little private Christian school. Baylor and McCallie both have big time athletic programs and put out quite a few college players. They are AAA schools, so they are fairly legit. If Kirby is interested in him, that tells me he must be pretty good.

I do not ‘admire’ that. I see it as entitlement; “you can’t win, WE’RE sposed to win, nobody else is sposed to win!” and they base the quality of their lives around it. They do whatever it takes to ensure wins. It’s disgusting; there’s no honor in that, it’s just greed. We were close to displaying that kind of character ourselves in baseball. I just don’t like it.

It wouldn't shock me, but that really would be more of an old paradigm move. The new paradigm is you just need your team to make the 24-team playoff field and hopefully peak at the right time. It's fairly hard to imagine TX and/or Bama not making a 24 team field at least 90% of the time with these two coaching staffs. That's basically 8-4 or better to make the field with an occasional 10+ win season to earn a bye.

I hope they don't come after Shane!
I don't know what our financial situation is. If by chance a change was to be determined needed to be made, I would prefer we hired a Head Coach who had success as HC at 2 different schools. THAT has been our most successful Head Coach hires at SC, BUT, if we are not in good financial health, what we could do is:

1.Relieve Shane Beamer of his duties at the end of the season, That would reduce his buyout
2. Make Briles Head Coach at a much lower salary. Even if you double his salary, he still would be paid half Beamer's pay. If he could put together back-to back-to-back good seasons, then pay the man.
3. Briles would retain some already on staff.

The above 3 moves would save money. I want Beamer to succeed. But, as I said elsewhere, you don't always get what you want.

Would Briles, without HC experience be a gamble? Yes. But like his brother-in-law Jeff Lebby, he coached under Briles Dad, who produced 3 national Top 15 teams and one Top 10 team. He also, like Lebby, was an Offensive Coordinator under Lane Kiffin (sorry about that "18istheMan" LOL). In his 3rd season, Lebby is doing a good job at MSU.

We'll see what happens.

This is textbook South Carolina football. After everyone has written you off, pull a monumental upset to get everyone believing you’re coming around as a team. Just when you get everyone believing you can pull another upset, you crap the bed.
