No way there’d be a 68% chance he’d be back with option 1 results. I mean who would really be okay with him coming back if the season goes that way

Either amazing with an elite eight or final 4. Or terrible. Unfortunately, the most likely scenario is a mid season. 4 or 5 in conference with a 5 or 6 seed with a second round or sweet 16 loss.

Neither and I predict we come in the top 4 in the SEC. Regional semi final.
Pope grabs a couple high level guys from the portal and incoming freshman class.
Stays for 5 years and in year 4 or 5 wins a natty!!

If the number in the loss column is more than 9 by April 6, 2027 and it didnt come with a SEC regular season or tournament champ, or a "magical/amazing/special/wonderful" run in the big dance, it will be hard to make the case for running it back.

I was gonna say Lucas was my top pick
If we can get Oats, sure, why not. But I’m kind of sick of these 50-something year old coaches. I want someone like Stein running the basketball program. Pitino was in his 30s when he took the Kentucky job. I want that.

This season will be bad enough to warrant a firing mid season. Honestly last year was too. There should have been serious talks started after the Gonzaga game. I have zero respect for pope at this stage. He understands the assignment but has failed miserably at it and continues pumping sunshine up our *** that we should be happy with his results compared to his predecessor. I took 10 years of Tubby for me to ger this disinterested in basketball and even tubbys last season I didn’t bail until the last 3rd of the season. I’m not engaged in this season AT ALL and while I’m sure I will watch most of their games early on I’m certainly not going to plan my day or evening around it.

I don't think he returns with either scenario. I've consistently said that what I consider to be a fair standard for justifying giving him another season is:

1) Finish Top 4 in the SEC or make it to at least Saturday of the SEC Tournament.
2) Make the Elite 8.

Sadly he automatically gets another year added to the contract thanks to Mitch's Sweet Sixteen poison pill 🥴, but I can't see Batt giving him one more chance with another Round of 32 exit.

Is that not crazy that you get an extra year for a S16. There was a time where that was a given . I can see that if you're the coach of Furman but not here. EE and above are expected here or they used to be.This drought started before Pope too but we have to find a way to end it. We have given out some ridiculous contracts.

I cannot understand ever rooting against my team to win basketball games.

this question was asked with previous coaches too.

and the thing is with mediocrity pope won’t survive here much longer anyways. If that’s what we want as a fan base. I personally think he can still do well here.

I hope Batch wants to win and not just to tread water. He must flush this losing culture and make the crucial decisions to put ky basketball on the road to success.

Loving this football season. Who here predicted 6-1 at this point? No one. People were saying a 6 win season would be good for Stein’s first year given the schedule. No better story in college football this year to week 8.

This will be an extremely unpopular opinion, but…

It’s the NIL era, does UK “really” need a pre-NIL era big name coach? How about, clean house, promote Mo Williams as HC, hopefully he can bring in Jamal Crawford and a few other star recruiters. Given the staff a Duke level bankroll, and see what happens.

I mean, for a 2yr. trial, I’d take that risk, and it might just pay off! Mo has the credibility and knows the agents, it would be better than what Pope has done!

If not, throw the offer to Lucas instead.

My biggest issue with moving on Pope too fast is that the couple of coaches that I really like out there are barely into their current tenure. Lucas Y2, Hodgson Y1, Murray Y1. Unless we know we can get Oats, who I don't think will want to move.
