Delta State goes independent

Delta State will go independent in football. Considering this year they scheduled their final game less than a month before the season started, this will be a disaster.

As an independent, their route to the D2 playoff would be at least a 9-1/10-0 season just to be considered. They are currently 3-3 with at least two losses left on the schedule.

A once proud program, one that has won a national championship this century and competed for others, will never return to the playoffs.

Unfortunately not surprising.

How long do you think their football program will last?

I can’t remember the reasons the article gave, but I read something about a year ago that said the D2 model is absolutely unsustainable. It predicted the division will eventually disappear.
