Not again. Never Mullins again! He single-handedly lost two and possibly three EB's because he was texting AD's of other schools about a new job. He took his eye off the team completely in those years during the EB.
Just playing devil’s advocate here…the incumbent of this position is about to go 0-3 in Egg Bowls and hasn’t been competitive in any of them.

Show me those same stats for Sherrill, our “best” coach according to most on this board.

Also, show me Mullen’s overall record and winning percentage at State compared to all other HCs. I feel confident that his days of “searching for something better” are over and I’d welcome him back in a heartbeat.

PS - Just for fun, show me his overall record as a HC at State vs as a HC everywhere else (FL + UNLV + ____)

Three of his five Egg Bowl wins were against Houston Nutt. He was 2-3 against Freeze and 0-1 against Matt 17ing Luke. He also completely blew the 2014, 2015 and 2017 Egg Bowls against Ole Miss teams we were much better on paper than. And his record against ranked teams was atrocious. There's plenty of better options out there than retread Dan Mullen if we decide to part ways with Lebby.
Name your Top 5 then.

The guy with a 4-3 UNLV team with losses to Memphis, North Texas, and Air Force? That guy ?
Do you think Lebby could beat Memphis, North Texas or Air Force with what he is putting on the field Now? When Mullen had Colandrea his team was legit just like Lebby with Kemario Taylor. But could you imagine what Mullen could do with Taylor IF the Medicsl Staff can keep Taylor healthy for a full season?

Dan benefited from extra games against very beatable opponents. I will never forget how many times, even in decent years overall, that he cost us at least one game from clock-management worse than Les Miles and inexplicably bad in-game decisions. How many times did we watch him get a lead, then blow it by going too conservative too soon?

How about "Perkins up the middle" 3 times in-a-row, gaining 1 yard each time? Weren't those fun?

Compared to Tay Galloway up the middle 3 times in a row? Of course that was from our own 1. Henig throwing 6 interceptions? 3-2? The Wing Bone?

I can only recall games from the 70’s on, but again who has made it 5 years as a coach here over the last 50? Neither Dan or JWS were perfect, but they gave me some of the most enjoyable MSU football experiences in my lifetime and I could care less if some of the wins were against cupcakes because most of the coaches we have had lost to cupcakes. Ahhh Tech and 10.

I am not saying there isn’t someone who could do better than Dan, but trying to discredit the success he had here compared to any other coach (sans JWS )in most of our lifetimes, is just not right.

Bringing back Mullen after the way he **** on us is almost as desperate and ill-conceived as making Arnett our head coach after Leech. He got run out of Florida (couldn't even keep Loafers happy), he'll more than likely leave UNLV after a poor showing this year for Maryland..
I don't disagree that he had a level of success here, but he **** on us. He couldn't and still can't win big games. Oh, did I mention he **** on us?!

^^^^This^^^^ for me. He didn't want to be here and I don't want him back. I will deal with it if he is hired but I would not be a fan of a begging someone that dumps me back.

Did you miss the part where Mullen held the university hostage several years in a row? He was also a total pain in the *** to deal with, was a dick to everyone, and the only reason Cohen was named AD was because Mullen refused to talk to anyone else.
**All that to say, I'd take him back in a second, but I was not his boss and did not have to deal with him or the way he handled things on the way out
Not saying I'm ready to try and drag Mullen back, but the fact that he was a dick is the last reason not to bring him back. ALL the good coaches seem to pretty much be dicks. Cignetti comes across as a total dick and he is the best in the business right now.

I am not discrediting his entire body of work, just putting into context for those who point to his record at State compared to others in particular. I would not want Dan back, particularly in today's environment.

You know, Hugh Freeze had a lot of success at Ole Miss, but that didn't translate to AU. I would rather go get Joe Judge than bring Mullen back.

Certainly can't argue with that. I remember going to the alumni meeting here at The Ledges clubhouse, and Mullen wasn't friendly at all. Perhaps the situation was a bit overwhelming for him, given it was his first HC position. He just seemed a little prickish.
