Greetings from Suffolk - the Peanut City - where it's the King's Fork Bulldogs (7-0) hosting the Indian River Braves (8-0) in a Southeastern District showdown between Class 5 title contenders.

These two teams are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the state - only behind three-time defending State Champ Maury - in Class 5, respectively. King's Fork has won each of the past four meetings, but is tonight wheen that changes and the reigning Region 5A Champion Braves prevail?

We've got greater weather too - 68 degrees as we near the start.

See our Tidewater Predictions with a Full Preview + Keys to Victory Here

Kick-off is moments away and we have you covered with our Game Blog + my partner Will Garlick covering the action for us from the sidelines.

Jaysean Preston returns the opening kickoff about 29 yards to Indian River's own 37. Coming out of trips formation, the first pass attempt of the evening for sophomore sensation Lord Malik Heru is incomplete. However, he responds with a 15-yard connection into King's Fork territory off a couple of out patterns. Catching it was Donovan Brown.

Heru is unable to complete the 1st & 10 pass in Bulldogs teritory. A double hitch on 2nd & 10 is incomplete. So now the Braves face their first third down of the evening. That too is incomplete.

Looked like Nyshaun Lewis-Rodgers, big defensive lineman for King's Fork, got a hand on Heru's third down pass. The Braves are lining up to punt. Great stand by the King's Fork defense out of the gate.

Junior DE/OLB Quatavius Fields of King's Fork gets the Indian River punter who has trouble fielding the snap and getting the kick off, resulting in essentially a blocked. Recovering it is Jamir Jiggetts, the leading tackler for the Bulldogs, at the Indian River 31 with 11:01 to go in the opening period. Golden field position.

Yet, the King's Fork offense comes out very sluggish with three penalties surrounding one incomplete pass. That beings up 2nd & 25 from the IR 46 suddenly. Sophomore Kevin Knight III breaks off a 10-yard run to make the third down manageable. Quarterback Myles Satchell finds his target on the outside - Jaheim Cooper - and he's able to move the sticks with a 20-yard gain. Excellent execution there. The Bulldogs are in the red zone now at the IR 16.

So after a couple of penalties on each side, the Bulldogs get set up with a 1st & Goal from the Indian River 5. After he slips, Bulldogs sophomore two-way standout Kevin Knight III shows why he's so well thought of by college coaches and scouts with a 6-yard TD run.

We highlighted in our Preview that Knight could be an x-factor in this game, where the marquee names are Terps commit Anthony Henderson Jr. (who had a 14-yard catch on that opening possession) and Braves sophomore QB Lord Malik Heru. By night's end, Knight figures be known by more people, including the common observers.

Indian River is anxious to show why their offense is averaging 53.5 points per game and considered one fo the best in all of Virginia. They come begin their second possession at their own 45 with 6:38 to go in the opening period with a pistol formation, likely trying to utilize some read-option and get the mesh concepts going in the pass game, where crossing routes give so many defenses trouble.

Jaysean Preston starts things off nicely with a 15-yard reception over the middle from QB Lord Malik Heru. On the very next play though, it's Bulldogs junior DB Narsi'er 'Nas' Jones getting his fourth interception of the season off a pass that bounced right off his receiver's hands. The 'ol tip drill.

The King's Fork offense fails to capitalize on the game's first takeaway, going 3 & out with their punt unit set to boot it away on 4th & 16. Well, cheeck that now 4th & 21 from their own 34 following a delay of game penalty. Tha is their sixth flag of the quarter for 47 yards ... and we still have 5:26 showing on the first quarter clock. That is something Coach Anthony Joffrion will want cleaned up in a hurry, and he was quite vocal about their own self-incflicted miscues in last week's 30-13 victory over a much-improved Hickory team.

Myles Satchell's punt is downed at the Braves 18-yard line. On that series, the Bulldogs used their leading rusher - Zi'Yon Green - on a arun play that only gained a yard. Due to a 15-yard face-mask penalty, the King's Fork offense was stuck in 3rd & 24, where QB Myles Satchell was basically forced to just scramble with the Braves dropping back in coverage to prevent a long pass play.

Indian River's third series on offense begins at their own 18 with 5:13 to go in the opening period. Indian River's first run play of the night to a tailback doesn't come until after their eighth pass. That's just slightly surprising. However, a penalty on the Braves pushes them back five yards. Yet, that does not discouage Coach Brandon Carr and his OC T.J. Lee from sticking to their plan.

The Braves get seven straight completions from QB Lord Malik Heru - all of the short to intermediate variety with Donovan Brown and Jaysean Preston.

Heru sees a matchup he likes on the outside, to the near side, and throws it right where it needed to be for Preston.

King's Fork's third series of the night begins at their own 30 following a fair catch with 1:07 to go in the first quarter. Not sure why the Bulldogs decided to fair catch that because they gave away some precious yards.

Indian River decides to run-blitz the linebacker and freshman Louis Freeman - who has already turned heads this year - drops Kevin Knight III for a loss of two. On the next play though to wrap up the first quarter, the Bulldogs get it back with curl to WR Jaheim Cooper from QB Myles Satchell. Cooper gets some serious YAC - yards after the catch - to the Indian River 44.

Only reason(s) King's Fork trails - - 7 penalties for 62 yards in the opening frame along with a missed PAT.

Good battle so far in a game where we don't expect either team to pull away from the other.

Just when King's Fork looked like it was about to implode with its 10th penalty of the night (costing them 82 yards) and facing 2nd & 23, it's Maryland commit Anthony Henderson Jr. making an incredible acrobatic catch over the middle for 17 yards from QB Myles Satchell.

On 3rd & 6, it's sophomore Kevin Knight III doing an excellent job of reading his blocks and being able to both run on balance + cut-back. Knight gains 17 yards to move the sticks to the Braves 23. Just a couple plays later, it's Knight with absolutely outstanding effort to find the end zone for points.

No time for King's Fork to rest because another very solid kickoff return by Indian River - this one from Donovan Brown - gives the Braves the ball at their own 39 with 8:00 even on the clock. Reshard Pope Jr. gains a couple on his first carry of the night, but then it's a loss of seven yards as QB Lord Malik Heru was not ready for the snap and had to cover it up to avoid a fumble recovery by King's Fork.

Heru makes up for it on 3rd & 15, completing a pass to WR/TE Valen-Tino Shaw for the first time on the night. Shaw is about four yards short of the first down. Instead of going for it, Coach Brandon Carr will punt it away on 4th & 4 from his own 45.

King's Fork takes over at their own 34 with 5:42 to go in the first half, leading 14-7 after a productive 14-yard punt return by Adam Gray.

Just when King's Fork had all the momentum, leading 14-7 with under five minutes to go until half-time and facing a 3rd & 2 from their own 42-yard line following a 10-yard reception by WR Jaheim Cooper, disaster strikes for the host Bulldogs. Quarterback Myles Satchell is unable to handle the shotgun snap and recovering the loose fumble is Braves junior edge rusher Kayce Jordan.

On the very next play, it's the Kempsville transfer Robert Hughes Jr. breaking off a long 37-yard TD run up the middle. A 15-yard taunting penalty is assessed to Indian River at the end of the TD, making it a tricky extra point try for Ricky Cake. Nonetheless, he makes it -- providing the icing on the cake (see what I did there?).

Offensive series No. 5 of the first half for King's Fork starts at their own 33 with 4:10 until half-time. The Bulldogs are probably trying to use as much clock as they can to prevent Indian River from getting the ball back and having a chance to take the lead before half-time.

The Bulldogs, who have been blocking quite well throughout the night, fail to get the nose guard - two-way lineman stalwart Jamaree Horton - accounted for and he blasts through for a tackle for loss. After Zi'Yon Green gets dumped for a loss of two, it's QB Myles Satchell misfiring on the next two plays. There was really good protection on his 3rd & 13 pass. But now it means the Bulldogs have to punt it away with 2:48 to go in the first half.

Kayce Jordan blocks the punt for Indian River and now the Braves are in business.

Lord Malik Heru hit junior WR Elijah Boggs on the inside slant perfectly - gaining 16 yards. Heru has now completed nine straight passes after a 2 for 7 start that included an INT. Reshard Pope Jr. finishes off the drive a couiple plays later with a TD run. A flag was thrown on the successful PAT. It was a penalty on King's Fork, which Braves HC Brandon Carr takes. It moves them up a bit closer.

Heru fumbles the snap on their two-point try, but alertly picks it up and hands it to Louis Freeman, who gets in the end zone with relative ease.

Indian River's coaches have to be livid with the special teams breakdown to allow Adam Gray to return the ensuing kickoff 56 yards for King's Fork down to the Braves 21-yard line with 1:11 till intermission. So all the momentum they gained on the last few possessions could be flushed away should King's Fork score a touchdown before the break. Keep in mind that King's Fork gets the ball to begin the second half as well.

A penalty on King's Fork - their 12th of the half - backs them up five yards. Not the best of clock management either as they let some precious seconds tick off without burning their second time-out after the one-yard catch by Kevin Knight III. Another false start pushes them back five yads, so that potential game-tying TD / 2-point conversion the Bulldogs might've been counting out is looking less likely of happening.

It looked bleak for King's Fork facing 3rd & 23. However, they get a bit closer with an 8-yard reception to Anthony Henderson Jr. - who went over 3000 yards receiving in his prep career during the half - to create 4th & 15.

Down the near sideline, sophomore Kevin Knight III makes another fanastic play with Myles Satchell making a wise decision to get it to him. And the rest? It's history.

Knight has 84 yads on 9 touches with 3 TD's.

King's Fork loses a yard on the opening kickoff, meaning they will start at their own 28 with 11:55 to go in the third period in this 22-all battle. After RB Zi'Yon Green loses a yard, the Bulldogs see another bad snap result in a fumble. It's Indian River defensive lineman Michael Dancy - a freshman - recovering and the Braves have superb field position at the KF 8.

On the very next play, it's Robert Hughes Jr. finding pay-dirt.

Would not be surprised if the Bulldogs make a change at center after that latest miscue...

The pace of this game probably favors Indian River, which won a bit of a back-and-forth, higher scoring game in front of a raucuous atmosphere against Oscar Smith a month ago.

King's Fork QB Myles Satchell slides for a gain of three. A great call by the King's Fork offensive coaches on an inside slant, which is put right on the money by Satchell, but WR Jaheim Cooper drops it, bringing up a crucial 3rd & 7. A false start creates 3rd & 12 from thir own 24 for a Bulldogs team that continues to hurt itself with penalties (16 for 118 yards).

Satchell gets pushed out of the pocket, scrambling and his throw on the move is incomplete, intended for Kevin Knight III. Looks like a holding penalty was called on the Bulldogs, but that figures to be declined by Indian River since it'll be fourth down.

Indian River gets more hidden yardage via the return game -- a 17-yard punt return by either Dreveon Spady or Jaysean Preston (sorry... having trouble from up here in the box to see if it's No. 6 or No. 8).

The Braves go to some power running with Robert Hughes Jr. gaining four yards, then muscling his way ahead for 12 yards. King's Fork has had some third quarter issues at different points of the season and it has reared the ugly head again.

That opens up the tight end -- Valen-Tino Shaw -- wide open to deliver in a big way for the visiting Braves.

By the way, those wondering why Indian River went for 2 instead of the PAT, it was because of another King's Fork penalty that moved them closer to the 1.

Speaking of penalties, the 19th flag of the night by King's Fork on the ensuing kickoff means they start at their own 30 instead of the 40 due to a holding. Brutal.

To put it simply, the King's Fork offensive line - particularly on the interior - appears spooked by No. 50 Jamaree Horton. Another bad snap - at least the third of the night by my count - dooms the latest Bulldogs drive, their third of the quarter. Moments later on 2nd & 14, it's QB Myles Satchell getting dropped for a seven yard loss on a sack by another Braves disruptive pass rusher, Kayce Jordan.

They decide to run it on 3rd & 21, where Kevin Knight III only gains a yard.

Jaysean Preston returns the punt 27 yards for the Braves to the King's Fork 37. But add 15 more yards on a personal foul. It's flag No. 20 on the night for KF compared to only six for Indian River.

The Braves are thinking about a knockout punch, leading it 34-22 with 4:55 remaining in the third period. Not far for Lord Malik Heru and company to go to hit the 40-point barrier, sitting at the Bulldogs 22-yard line.

Lord Malik Heru's streak of 10 straight completed passes comes to an end. Now facing 3rd & 14 from the KF 26, Heru scrambles for a gain of five yards. The Braves obviously decide to leave the offense on the field for 4th & 9 from the Bulldogs 22. This is where their crossing patterns and screens are so deadly.

A holding is called on Indian River. Nyshaun Lewis-Rodgers intercepts the screen pass on 4th & 19 by Heru.

King's Fork takes over at their own 33 with 2:58 to go in the third quarter from the left hash, trailing visiting Indian Rivere 34-22.

It's a 3 & out for the King's Fork offense, unable to solve the litle wrinkle that Braves Head Coach Brandon Carr and his DC Anthony Smith have come up with, going to a 3-3-5 stack. Out of it, senior defensive lineman Jamaree Horton has been unblockable on the interior and the King's Fork running game is not breaking off some of the chunk yards they got in the first half.

Really good coverage from Donnie Graham on 3rd & 9. It forces King's Fork to punt it away.

Indian River goes 3 & out though on its latest possession. Zammarius Jackson makes a tackle for loss, then it's an incomplete pass by the Braves along with a personal foul on Indian River, and Dreveon Spady only gains seven yards on the screen dialed up on 3rd & 26. Jami Jiggetts makes his 7th solo tackle of the night.

Drumroll please ... if you had King's Fork with 22+ penalties for 164 yards, then congratulations. You're a winner.

The holding on the punt return means the Bulldogs begin their fifth possession at their own 46 with 11:49 to go in regulation. Consecutive incomplete passes means it's quickly 3rd & 10 for the King's Fork offense. Credit the Indian River defensive backfield with Dreveon Spady, Donnie Graham, Elijah Boggs and crew for holding serve in this second half with Satchell 0 for 5 so far.

However, Satchell finds big-play WR Anthony Henderson Jr. for a gain of 16 yards, plus a 15-yard penalty of the pesonal foul variety.

A few plays later, Satchell and the offense face 3rd & 6 and he surprisingly runs out of bounds, about three yards short of the first down marker. Big 4th down coming up...

It's Jaysean Preston stepping up and brekaing up the 4th & 3 pass by King's Fork in the red zone. Myles Satchell threw it to his left and it looked like he might've had Anthony Henderson Jr. open on the backside.

Nonetheless, it's a big stop for the Indian River defense. Seeking a chance to run some clock, the Braves get a pair of enormous first downs. The first one comes on 3rd & 9, where QB Lord Malik Heru connects with TE/WR Valen-Tino Shaw on the wheel route over the middle for a gain of 12.

On the next play, they go to the run game, trapping the A-gap and taking advantage is Robert Hughes Jr. for a 25-yard burst that is his second longest of the night. King's Fork now has to start thinking about using its time-outs.

In 'gotta have it,' mode defensively with Indian River facing a 3rd & 7 from the Bulldogs 43, the King's Fork defense is unable to wrap up QB Lord Malik Heru on his best scramble of the night. He gets nine yards. That allows Brandon Carr's bunch to burn more clock, leading by 12 - 34-22 - as we near five minutes left in regulation.

The gentlemen standing at the top row of the bleachers right below the press box summed it up best. One looked at the other and then up top and said, "He didn't have that last year." That is the added dimension to his package this year as a sophomore to go with the brilliant arm talent and smarts.

Up front is where this game was won to me in that third quarter + some hidden yardage in the return game on special teams gave the Braves a pinch better field position during some key stretches of the game.

Of note -- sophomore Kevin Knight III nearly got his 4th TD of the evening. Knight broke off a 22-yard run down to the Indian River 5-yard line to help set up the score. Jamir Jiggetts was wide open on the play-action waggle play.

Really like how both coaching staffs have utilized the tight end for portions of this game tonight.

2:11 to go - Indian River 41, King's Fork 28

Braves facing 4th & 5 from their own 39 after the Bulldogs hold tough against the run and use their final time-out to stop the clock.

A not so fitting end of the night for King's Fork, trying to get one more rally, as they are called for their 24th penalty on a roughing the kicker penalty. That 15-yarder will allow Indian River to essentially run out the clock and get their 9th win of the campaign.
