LoL!!!! That pic is pretty funny!
I'm playing Devil's Advocate here. But maybe the branch campuses have low enrollment because the main campus takes so many students. What would a world look like in which the freshman and sophomore classes at the main campus were much smaller and those kids instead went to a branch campus their first two years, and then went to the main campus for their junior and senior years?Sadly, but clearly most of these slated for closure obviously should be. York is so close to Harrisburg. Wilkes Barre so close to two others that will stay open. With the drop in enrollment at a minimum those two closures make perfect sense.
The ones that hurt for me are Mont Alto (Forestry Tech) and Dubois (Wildlife Tech). Both house excellent and unique programs ideally situated. Wonder if the board will figure out how to keep those two programs operating somewhere......but need to be close to the outdoor labs they both need.
AI can teach you the Ruzzian language if you're falling behind. You're going to need it to fuel up soon. What happened to @PSUJam ? He's listed amongst current board members but when you search his posting history it comes back with no results.
Is it safe to assume that he got banned, but his former content was preserved?

Nothing wrong with the branch campuses, but If I had to do the 2 + 2 route, I might have chosen another school. I wanted to be on a large traditional campus 4 years. From my perspective there was more to it than just getting my prerequisite courses in the first two years (and I don't mean the partying....I wasn't in to that anyway) but other resources and activities.I'm playing Devil's Advocate here. Agree....it's those specialized Associates degrees like Surveying Engineering, and Forestry Tech (Mont Alto), and Wildlife Tech (DuBois) that I worry about. The surveying could easily be assimilated just about any where, but the Forestry and Wildlife Management programs need a close outdoor lab/environment. Shouldn't be too hard in a state like PA.....but I'd hate to see those unique progrmans go by the wayside. The PA State Forestry Academy at Mont Alto is the nations oldest public forestry school and one of the oldset period.I hope they plan to move this to either Scranton or Hazelton. I know it is a popular Major here in NEPA.

I can see both sides of closing campus vs not. At some point the school needs to start cutting costs though. I agree the branch campus price should be much lower to offset the allure of getting in to UP. I dont know how much it would change the minds of students but it could help some. One issue there though is that many of the branch campuses are funding athletic programs for the sole purpose of attracting students so that they and their parents can say they have a college athlete.I suspect most students would want to go to main campus from the get go because that seems cooler and more glamorous. And I suspect that while that's fine for some, such as you, there are others who would be better served by doing 2 + 2 so they can get basic education while also growing and maturing more before they go to the giant main campus, which can be overwhelming. And perhaps we can't tell in advance who would be best served by which model.
But that gets to another thing about college, which is that it's about much more than education. I mean, people say we need to have publicly funded education, which we do, but college has so much more than that and while a lot of that stuff is fun and useful, it's not actually education.
Maybe the thing to do is to not only have main campus be more selective on which freshmen it'll take but also have branch campuses be much less expensive and then the options will be more clear cut...you either go to main campus and get the main campus experience but pay more...or you go to a branch campus and pay less. I know there are some extracirriculars at the branches too but it's not like the main campus.
Maybe someone will tell me that branch campuses have been expensive than main campus all along. I don't know. I'm talking about per credit hour I mean. Paying for room & board is a whole separate issue.
