Querstion: why does Northpoint Christian School participate in the Tennessee private school league? They were originally SBEC in Memphis but relocated to Southaven on Getwell Road. They have 1050 students which would put them in the highest or second highest class in MAIS.

That would put them in the highest division and in the range of the Jackson schools. I'd bet they just don't want to travel to Jackson for every meaningful game.

Because they do not want to be in the district/class where their closest opponent is MRA. They have several Memphis area schools that they can have local games.

Travel is hell on schools at every level right now. Hearing some horror stories at small colleges where travel expenses for athletics are up 300%. People could not believe when Mississippi College dropped football a couple years ago. Truth is, they were losing $2 million a year and that was with a viable Gulf South Conference. Now that has blown up and Delta State is looking at a schedule with 3+ road games over 1000 miles every year, MC looks smart.

I think by 2030 we start going back to more regional conferences in the highest level of college sports. UCLA/USC being in the same conference as Maryland and Rutgers does not work outside of football.

So K5-12th grade counts in setting divisions for MAIS or 9-12? I suspect 9-12 at Northpoint would be around 220 students. How does that compare to Marshall, Magnolia Heights, Rossville, North Delta and Clarksdale Lee?

I went to SBEC. Moved from MPSA back to TSSAA for travel reasons when I was in 9th grade. At the time division games were Starkville, Heritage, Pillow, Washington, and Lee. Travel sucked.
It would be even worse now.

Our furthest division game was an hour away in TSSAA.

If I remember right our Division the first year were Briarcrest, ECS, Saint Benedict, Fayette Academy, Memphis Catholic, and Bishop Byrne. Literally all either in Memphis or Cordova except for Fayette that was in Somerville.

Magnolia would be the closest in size. Every one of those others you named are half to a third of the size of Northpoint.
