If we lose to Vandy next week does our AD pull the trigger?

I think if we lose Saturday the pressure will be too much for Selmon. He will have to make a move. He did not fire him yesterday or today and I don't think he will fire him after a win but will after the next loss.
I don't think they are currently entertaining a firing at all. Not in the least. Fans have really jumped the gun on this.

But again this is assuming we actually do something positive in November. Chalk holding in other words.

This is the most MSU thing ever. Lenny doesn't really impress but he happens to find lightning with this great QB from right down the road. Everything lining up for an elite season next year and literally the only thing that can derail it, derails it. Lenny is so crappy that he loses his way out of the job even with a huge number of excuses.

Ole Miss will embarrass us like they did in croom’s last game. And then you damn near have to fire him and are way behind in the coaching carousel
And just like 2008, this unfortunately will be the switch that flips the people that can make a difference to speak up. Not the 3 year cumulative results. This damn behind the times obsession that holds this program back. Just like everything else that does.

Never proactive. Always reactive.

Who said it changes? He said it's bigger than the other sports and it's harder to hire a football coach. He's not getting fired unless he loses to TN Tech maybe. Believe it or not, he's still got more support than you'd think.
I think he's going to have to win two more. He has actually reasonable excuses for this year, but he just made too many dumb decisions his first two years for it to save him.

You gain nothing by firing him before end of season
False. You actually gain nothing from keeping him. Firing him paves the way for a real search to start right away. Gets our job out in front of candidates. You never really know who’s interested and who isn’t until you actually pull the trigger. Not to mention that in this portal era, it lets the new guy get a head start on talking to players he might want to bring with him.

He should, and there is precedence with Selmon showing that he is willing to make mid season moves. He fired Arnett and Lemonis during the season.

My guess though is he won't for two reasons. 1) Lebby is his hire and has more of a vested interest in him 2) He and JL have a prior history and a kinship from OU. I expect him to hold off until season end unless we lose to TS in which he could not wait any longer.
They aren’t as close as the message world wants you to believe

I've heard conflicting reports but the latest that I have heard is that he is safe unless State gets blown out by Vanderbilt and/or loss vs Tennessee Tech. Even with a close loss to Vanderbilt, Lebby is still safe with a win vs Tennessee Tech. The reason why is that he was winning with Kamario when Kamario was healthy. I don't know how I feel about that or agree but looks like Lebby will get a mulligan because of injuries.

No need to "heard" anything. Common sense tells you this much. On the surface, 5-7 he likely returns.

Why in the world would “common sense” tell you that any coach who oversees an offense that scores 18 points combined in 13 consecutive quarters, and loses at home to Vandy, IN YEAR 3, should return?

It doesn’t matter what the excuses are, or who got hurt. That’s pitiful. There’s not a single other school in the P4 that would tolerate a 3rd consecutive losing season, along with all of the above.

It's so foreign to me to hear people say he deserves a mulligan because of KT's injury. I've been in Operations Management for 25 years and I never was allowed excuses like, "the machine broke down,", "someone quit", "we lost power due to a storm", ect. I have always been held to the expectation that I am paid to look around corners and expect those thing, have a plan for if they happen, and deliver results.

You gain hope and confidence within the fan base. Yeah I get it maybe before NIL it didn’t accomplish much. But you have a mid season firing on a very unpopular coach you can pivot that for more donations.
Gain hope? LOL, is Arnett 2.0 going to give anyone hope? And I hate to break it to boss, but he's got more support than you think. Could that die with a loss to Vandy? Maybe, but you still gain absolutely nothing from firing him until after the season. I m not sure he's getting fired unless he loses to TN Tech anyway. One thing's for sure, will be a lot of the message board crowd mad if we beat Vandy.

He’s had injuries. Everyone has injuries. His recruiting & decisions on backup QBs has been as bad as you could imagine. I get you can’t have a solid sec starter as a backup these days. But good freaking lord, you can’t be that bad.

At some point how you prepare for & respond to things like this happening has to come into play.

No shít. You realized 5 other schools have already fired their coaches, right? The sooner the search can begin, the better.

There’s an advantage to being able to get an MOU and/or contract signed before more schools enter the fray. Those other schools (and everyone last year) weren’t all sitting on their dicks waiting on the season to finish. This stuff matters more than ever in the portal era.

There's no advantage unless you're a blue blood fighting for a blue blood coach We gone hire some Sunbelt coach or AAC coach in all likelihood, We aren't getting some top guy at a blue blood job. Dickert ain't going to meet with us in the middle of a playoff like some scumbag Kiffin, he's going to have his people do the talking, same for Eck. We'll go through hiring firm anyway

Is swann that bad? Pretty limited action but his stats don’t look that bad for a 2nd string qb.

IS it lining up for elite season? He will need better talent on the line of scrimmage for that. Do you think he will get four or five good linemen from the portal? K1 has ended back to back seasons with an injury. The odds are better that it will happen again rather than Lebby transforming his offensive line.

Buyout isn’t gonna change from NOV 8 to Nov 30
We owe him 75% of his remaining contract if we fire him without cause. Two years left at about 9MM, so around 6.75 would be what we owe him to walk
I keep seeing this. How does he have two years left? We can only give 4 years in MS, correct? And he went 2-10 in year one? So was there quietly an extension in here somewhere? Otherwise I’d think we owe him 13 months right now…

Not having a competent back up is inexcusable. Its called planning. IF Swann was injured in spring camp AND fall camp who was getting his reps ? So we are saying Lebby invested all the preparation in his walk on and just hoped K1 wouldn't get hurt? Now we have 2 injured QBs and a walk on. Imo he should have his chosen recruit ready to go. All spring and fall and he aint even dressing out. I must be stupid cause I can't comprehend that. 3 QBs Lebby went and got and not one was ready to go

We are not hiring ZA as interim. Jesus. I’m speaking in terms of the excitement of a new coach being brought in once the season is done.
As far as he has more support than I think. Well I don’t know that’s the case since Sunday. Lots of smoke coming out that not everyone is happy even with injuries. The body of work isn’t conducive to winning football.

The AAC and sunbelt have some pretty good coaches. That’s our floor, and not a bad floor I might add.
I’m amazed at how little some of you actually know how searches work. Here is a little breakdown. You hire a search firm. They gather names from their contacts. You whittle down who you want to talk too. You then speak with agents. Then zoom/teams with said coach. Fly out to Atl charlotte DFW. Set up a meeting. Negotiations start on salary the. You make the hire. Irrelevant of a play off run

On paper, the talent gap should still be massive in spite of all the injuries, but anything could happen with a sparse crowd and a team that’s lost its will
"On paper, the talent gap should still be massive"

Without knowing one thing about them I would bet their starting QB would start for us right now ......it's that bad .

Their QB is a 5* true FR rated the top QB recruit in the country last year. They flipped him from Georgia. Not sure if he could beat out Puckett in Lebby's mind though.

I honestly can’t imagine how any responsible manager of an athletic department could not have already reached the conclusion that he has to let this HC go and find a new one. It’s obvious at this point.

The nightmare scenario is he keeps Lebby, Kamario balls out next year and gets Lebby another year in 2028.

He’s got to go and the sooner the better.
The nightmare scenario is that Lebby and State succeed, and we have a good year next year? I hate success as well and would never wish it on any of our programs.**

My niece goes to a doctor in Starkville. The docs wife is friends with a lady that is married to a guy that knows a booster. She told me that Lebby is safe for another season because he doubled his SEC wins. She also said they said the new Target in Tupelo has opened up the coaching ranks and we can pick anybody we want next season if Lebby doesn't win 3 SEC games!

If you’ve come to the conclusion that Lebby is not qualified to be the HC at an SEC school, then yes, a true stud player saving his job for two more years is a nightmare. Delaying the inevitable. There’s no success in the future with him leading things.

And I gave him more time than he earned before reaching this conclusion.
