Saw this movie a couple of weeks ago, and I was surprised at how big of an Elvis fan it made me. Had no clue he was *that* big of a deal. Great movie. Who here has seen it, and what were your impressions?

I haven't seen what you posted as I watch very little on screen anything for several years now. I do own several of his movies and like his music.

HBO Max adds it this Monday. I'll probably watch it next week.

I was about 13 years old when Elvis hit the scene. Big deal? He was as big as it gets. There had never been anything like Elvis in the history of entertainment. Nobody knew how to handle him. One thing few people know is how generous he was and he never forget where he came from. He was a natural and genuine. But he did have his demons.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it immensely. I personally knew several people who performed with him, Donnie Sumner and his uncle J.D. Sumner. (now deceased) Donnie played piano and was in J.D.'s Stamps Quartet and they sang back up with Elvis in Vegas and his record recordings. Donnie lost a beautiful wife because of his drug addiction and came a hair of committing suicide. But he turned his life around.

Donnie's father was my parents pastor.

Good night, sweet prince...

He's not the King, but he was once People Magazine's Sexiest Athlete. Accidentally.

https://deadspin.com/the-sad-hilarious-tale-of-elvis-grbac-1998s-sexiest-5302475

The magazine chose Rich Gannon as its Sexiest Athlete. At the time, Gannon was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Still a couple of seasons removed from his golden tenure with the Raiders, Gannon was 33, handsome and likable. In other words, a solid choice. Yet People, being People, simply informed the photographer assigned to the piece that the Sexiest Athlete was the Chiefs' quarterback. Hence, he took pictures of the Chiefs' quarterback. Well, one of the Chiefs' quarterbacks: Elvis Grbac.

The pictures made their way back to the New York offices, and editors were dumbfounded. This was their Sexiest Athlete? Yet upon learning the truth, no one with the magazine had the heart (guts?) to tell Grbac that an unfathomable mistake had been made. As a result, Elvis Grbac reigns as People's 1998 Sexiest Athlete.

https://screenrant.com/elvis-movie-streaming-release-date-update/

Warner Bros. Discovery's second-quarter earnings call (via Decider) revealed that those eager to see Elvis on HBO Max might have to wait longer than expected. Elvis will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms for a premium price on August 9, but will not be on HBO Max. Moving forward, the studio will supposedly assess the HBO Max release of theatrical films on a case-by-case basis.

Well that sucks. I was gonna watch it this week.

My cousin Ed Enoch sung with Elvis and j.d. and then gospel with j.d. after Elvis passed

One of my sil grew up in Whitehaven. That is the area of Memphis that Graceland is located. When she was little(early/mid 60s), Elvis would open up Graceland at Christmas. She has a pic of herself with her sister sitting on Elvis' knee like he was Santa.

Trivia that I know because of Memphis family:

Whitehaven was named after Col. White. Whitehaven was forcefully annexed into the city of Memphis in 1970. A decade of white flight and it's been known as Blackhaven ever since.
