We are better? o_O

See the link below. From the article:

”UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Nick Jones, executive vice president and provost at Penn State, has announced he will step down Aug. 15 and transition into a new role as special assistant to the president through the end of 2022. Jones will return to the College of Engineering, where he has an appointment as a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.”

Probably over the diploma signature debacle. Or possibly ordered Domino’s instead of PapaJohn’s for his first meeting with the Prez. 🧐

This is Standard Operating Procedure for a new university Chancellor/President.

Defer to your superior knowledge on these matters. Make more sense if the new president has someone in mind. Conducting a search doesn't guarantee someone better unless the new president thinks the incumbent is useless.

OK, maybe not SOP. But having worked in higher Ed for close to 30 years, I’ve seen a change like this happen almost every time a college/university gets a new leader, regardless of the quality of the person leaving. Sometimes it’s a Provost who gets fired - or leaves on his/her own accord - and sometimes it’s a dean. While I admittedly am not privy to the reasoning in every case, it definitely isn’t uncommon for there to be a shakeup when a new President/Chancellor begins their tenure.

Someone can check and verify, but I think that is pretty accurate.
No, you are sadly mistaken.

Before posting, a poster should always check and verify the accuracy of their statements and not assign the responsibility for doing so to others

Well so far after two months Neeli is MIA. Hopefully that’s by design and she is getting a handle on the government bureaucracy that is PSU and has a plan to downsize the enormous payroll of people who do very little but collect big paychecks.

Not exactly MIA. She did a tour of most of the commonwealth campuses and has done several interviews. Also, things are quiet on campus this time of year.

Sandy leaving has been attributed by some to Neeli. Kraft is Neeli’s hire and is considered a good hire. Now Jones is out. It would appear that Neeli is doing something (with barren’s consult o_O ).

I don't get the musical chairs. Jones isn't leaving PSU so why couldn't he remain as provost until the new person come on board?

Jones was a sh|t show and Schwartz is auditioning for the job? Or just Jones was a sh|t show?

Aren't most of the incumbents useless that were put in place by the BOT after the "incident" that took place in 2011(ish)? 🤷‍♂️

Having Schwartz audition for the job while paying a retainer search firm would be a typical Penn State move.

Maybe it's a temporary six months special projects type of move before he has to leave and they just don't want to announce it so as not to hamper his job searching prospects.

You mean like Cal did with Barbour?

She’s quite visible so far and seems quite active both on campus and in Washington and Harrisburg as well as touring the campuses.

we can hope
A new Provost will be one of her most important hires if she is to attract top faculty and improve PSU's academic reputation.
