Love committed to the Wolverines last month, but sources told ESPN there was an admissions issue related to credits transferring.

Caleb Love, the former UNC guard who said he'd transfer to Michigan last month, has decommitted and reopened his recruitment, sources told ESPN.

This credits issue must be a specific matter at um. If it were a broader ncaa policy matter, Love would have an issue transferring anywhere.

I guess um, per their policy, saw Love as being short on credits to be eligible next season or even eligible to advance a grade/class. Perhaps Love could not fix the issue by the fall (i.e., during a summer session) or he decided it wasn’t worth the effort. There are probably a lot of schools that will accept him as is, assuming he is eligible by ncaa standards.

The usual unc class jokes aside, it is interesting that a unc kid could not transfer to um. Or was Love not eligible for next season at unc?

Imagine in 2023 not being accepted from the portal due to academic credits. Huh.

FWIW, sometimes transferring credits can be more difficult than it should be. PSU lost out on a transfer wrestler in the not too distant past trying to transfer from Wisconsin to PSU.

Recall the kicker who picked PSU some years ago (not the airplane video kid) over Michigan because they wouldn’t guarantee him a spot in the business school.

Michigan's admission standards for recruiting high school athletes is very similar to most other power 5 schools. Admitting transfers, however, is a completely different story. Anyone other than a grad transfer or a kid who maybe only has been in college one year won't get in. Its really, really crippling the basketball program.

The transfer itself was a bit odd at the time btw. Love had NIL $$$ at UNC and was in line to be the captain. It was his show.

My wife reminded me that mathematics credits transfer more easily than those from just about any other subject.

As a general rule Maryland does not accept transfer credits in calculus. Just putting this out here just because why not?
