When I was in training in New York the real estate people for Starbucks earned there money by opening store after store and finding locations. I asked them, if you open this store won’t it cannibalize another store. They said “NO”.
sure enough years later they had already closed several of those locations.

Not sure how today's grownups will cope. Get a Mr. Coffee?
I was in France a couple of weeks ago and they offered me a cup of coffee at registration. I said sure so they brought me a 4 oz espresso cup that had about 1 oz of espresso. This isn't new to me but I never get used to it. First of all it's like sludge. Second I see people sitting out at cafes socializing while nursing their 1 oz of espresso. How long can you sit there and shoot the breeze while sipping on a 1 oz beverage?

Of course I also never get used to being offered sparkling water instead of still.

I live about 5 miles from the closest decent size suburb and there are 3 Starbucks locations within a mile and a half of each other. To be fair one is in a Target store.

I went to one once at Greensboro airport. About eight years later I went to one in a grocery store in Tucson. Pretty good breakfast samich.
Closest one to my house is ~15 mi in the next town down yonder.

I understand it as a fast food stop for travelers. I sort of understand it as a place where lonely people go to be with other people even though no one really socializes. But I don't understand paying $7 for a mediocre latte injected with fruit-flavored corn syrup when it is easy to make that at home for $1.

Champagne - any time of day - is the go to in France for cafe lounging and people watching. Just being the bottle and the standing bucket of ice :).

I remember last time Starbucks did this. There literally were some locations directly across the street from another. I haven’t been to one in years because I make better coffee at home and the price they charge is ridiculous.

I think there are more Starbucks stores than McDonalds. I can't tell you how often I've seen multiple Starbucks located less than a mile apart. I've travelled a lot internationally and Starbucks are everywhere.
I believe that there are four Starbucks, two Paneras, and one Saxbys on campus.

Way too many locations - in every Hospital Guest Lounge / in every hotel lobby / in every Target store / in every Mall / in every ......

I do not like their sludge - just a mocha frap (whatever) once a quarter, maybe ....
Could be just me - I can do without !
