Have you been to King Way wings on Lewis or picked up Wings from Chicken & the Wolf. I've got a party I'm going to where ILL Fated and Kelli Lynn and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers are playing tomorrow night. It's pot luck and BYOB. It's in the TU area and my neighborhood, and I didn't feel like driving to 71st and Utica tomorrow afternoon. Are either of them anywhere near as good as Macks?
I haven't tried either of their wings. If you end up heading downtown tomorrow, Sisserou's Bohemian Jerk wings are also legit. Tender, perfectly seasoned. 😋 But very different styles.

Chicken and the Wolf is good chicken but I don’t think their wings match up with Mack’s…just my opinion. I’ve never even heard of Kings Way. Where is it on Lewis?

Where Freddies/Mark and Tammy's burger place used to be.

Good weekend in Austin at the Texas Cup. We beat #1 Real Colorado 1-0 on Saturday. Defense played outstanding against a really talented offensive squad.

That setup a match today against #5 Solar in what turned out to be one of the craziest youth games I’ve witnessed. Solar jumped out to a 2– 1 halftime lead on a free kick just outside the box and a bad turnover just outside our 18. Our outside back gets a red 5 minutes into the second half so we play a man down for the last 35 minutes. Figured game was over. I was wrong. We outscored Solar 2-0 in the second with ten and win the Cup 3-2 in a wild high quality soccer game. Won a ribbon and a mug…oh boy. Multiple girls nursing injuries (including mine) as we head into two huge games this coming weeknd against Sting Austin and Challenge.

I came over and watched the end of the Real game, it was very competitive. We didn't get the results we wanted this weekend but competed. We beat Real Colorado 2-0 in a game we dominated but went down to Solar the #3 team in the country 1-3 in a game that at a minimum should have come out to a draw. Solar finished the opportunities they had we did not, but fortunately this game was more about pride than standings. We will play both teams again next year in matches that count towards league standings and advancing to the Champions League.

We have a tournament that weekend but for those available this is a decent local ID camp.

What makes this a good showcase? May send my daughter.
For me:

1) Close proximity to home
2) Colleges attending

My advice is to get the college attendance list to any showcase your kid is planning on attending and email every college at that camp beforehand which he/she might have interest. You want them to know your name prior to camp imo

That's the WSA hosted one right? I refereed it last year. Really a bunch of WSA teams playing each other.

With my son participating in academy soccer for three years and closely observing their tournaments for the same period, it has become an ongoing theme.

It's because they have too many tournaments.

They are, BY FAR, the worst of any club when it comes to having their own teams be 70-100% of the teams in WSA tournaments. They probably charge their own teams to "showcase" them in glorified internal scrimmages.

I think that is kind of sick.

It appears so.
I’ve had multiple parents complain to me over the years that they pay for what amounts to be a couple of interclub scrimmages disguised as a WSA soccer tournament. Maybe now that WSA has NL the attending teams will improve

Every local club has about 50% of the entries to their own tournaments. I know TSC, at least the last couple of years we were there when they went to the all 1 fee payment each month instead of a monthly dues to the club and then a tournament fee to the club manager, TSC stopped "charging" their own teams to participate in their own tournaments. Those tournaments were among the most egregious when it came to ridiculous upcharges. I think U15 and above were part of the showcase and the entry fee was $1200 or so and it included "4th officials, player showcase info sheets, stats compiled, video of each match" 90% of the time the stats didn't compile correctly because only 60% of the match was captured on the VEO because the games all started late after the 1st game slot because the game slots were too close together and the referees didn't care if the next game was delayed because they needed more than a 5 minute break between games.

Blitz has a lot of Blitz teams in their tournaments BUT this last week there were a good number of outside teams from around OK, AR, KS, MO, and TX that attended. I even think there were a few from Louisiana.

But you're right, WSA tournaments probably up the host percentage of teams to about 75%. The timing is awful for their tournaments IMO. Labor Day and you're going up against the Plano tournament that I know Blitz and TSC like to send teams to and it also comes on the heels of the Edmond Beat the Heat tournament which a lot of teams like to use as their season tune up. Their Spring tournament is close to Memorial Day and I'm thinking a lot of teams are checked out or are gearing up for playoffs and other national tournaments...plus the holiday where everyone wants a break because school just ended.

I thought this showcase would be a good prep for me as a referee getting to do some higher level competitive games and getting ready for the HS season to start a couple weeks later. Instead I get parents bitching about everything because they were cold, the girls bitching because they were cold, and having to clear snow/ice from the turf at Scheel's. I've got WSA coaches yelling at other WSA coaches in game. The worst part of WSA tournaments, as a ref, is that they really don't think about the refs that much. TSC always had good food, access to trainers, good snacks and drinks and an area away from everyone. Blitz does a decent job of this too even though last weekend they really skimped on the snacks but worst was they didn't have any extra bottled water available for the refs in our area. WSA has the bare minimum for all of these and if you're scheduled on the south end of the complex, they don't have a tent set aside just for refs to chill and be out of the line of fire (I can't tell you how important this part is after coming off a game...you don't want to have to answer questions from U9 parents about what offside is and did the ref really make the right call).

The ability to have equal competition playing each other. Having College coaches from many of the area colleges and different levels available for players to be evaluated.
Equal competition is subjective, you will get some kids that just aren’t very good. I was also curious why it was so expensive when you can pay the same amount for a two day session at some of the other the showcases.

Holy hell. Just saw the price. I would like to take back my recommendation. Assume the justification is that the host organization is paying the expenses of the college coaches attending. Still seems excessive

In the couple of camps my daughter has attended the girls are separated by skill level. The top tier scrimmage each other while the next tier scrimmage. Not sure how one can anticipate the skill level of the attendees in camps like this

Might be subjective, but not impossible. Just look at The Original Showcase in Dallas the first weekend in December. It's one of the best on getting coaches there from every level to show up, and the teams are paired correctly for equal competition

But that is Dallas and it's right after the conclusion of the college soccer season meaning coaches need to hit the recruiting trail. A February showcase in Oklahoma...there's a reason it's only WSA and a couple of other local teams coming.

I don’t see a Showcase in Dallas the first week of December. ECNL is in Kansas City that week.

I think we are talking about two different things, what I was referring to was a camp for individual players. I think you are talking about ECNL showcases. But you can correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes. I was talking about ECNL showcases. Assume you’re talking about a boys individual camp? I was a bit confused as most recruiting age girls in the Dallas area will be in KC that weekend at the ECNL showcase.

I was talking about a girls camp this month that @lawpoke87 mentioned in an earlier post. I'm not really sure which weekend you are referring to, the only ECNL showcase this month is in Phoenix.

I was responding to the post from GWS about a Dallas showcase the first weekend in December. I was confused as to which showcase he was speaking of

In the years past it has been ecnl heavy on the girls side with alot of D1 schools here.
Interesting. Glancing through the current list of attending teams, I didn’t see a single ECNL girls team. Maybe having it so close to the ECNL Showcase in KC has affected attendance

Energy comes to town to play WSA this Sunday in NL and RL games. Big weekend for local soccer. Hoping WSA can at least come out with wins in the 09s and 12s.

Beating / drawing with Energy is the thing I'd really want to see this team do the most this season.

We have a big weekend in Dallas against Sting Austin and Classic. Sting Austin is a solid side. Need 6 points.

Posters talk about the quality in the Texas league. Here are the U16 national rankings from Top Drawer. Four of the top ten teams in the country reside in the Texas league. Rankings were prior to the Cup finals this past weekend so you can probably flip a couple of those Texas league teams in the rankings.

Did i hear this correctly... WSA 2011 NL's tied Energy today 3-3?

That is huge!!!

Especially considering Energy has poached so many players from Tulsa on that team and were the top team in Texas league.

I didn't watch that match, so idk.

The 12s lost 0-1. Another really, really close game where the lone goal wasn't really a banger.
