This is up for a vote. I don’t see how this doesn’t pass since publics have significantly more reps voting.

A lot of thoughts on this but what does it actually solve?

Doesnt matter what the multiplier is the issue will still remain. They just need to use the CB method which is take whatever ranking system they prefer and put the highest ranked X number of privates into the largest class and work their way down.

Now you like ranking systems? ;)

The membership can keep putting stuff in place but I kinda agree, it is not going to make everyone happy or solve the issue (if you believe there is an issue). What is the threshold of public schools being happy? Winning all 8 classes in football, 7,6,5? Public schools could win all 7 and you would still have that dope from Antioch posting circles on maps for the one class that private schools won. I hope they play a certain private school in the Semis and get demolished. I have a hard time with a coach/adult publicly trying to take away kids accomplishments. *Rant over*

I am one that does not want separation, but the more and more you put stuff in place the more likely it will eventually happen. I talked to several 8A FB players that play at a pretty successful public school program, they do NOT want separation. "to be the best you have to beat the best" was the general comment from them.

No, I still dont like ranking systems but they would work for my purposes here. Previously I also said that it could be a committee of private only folks who do the ranking. I wouldnt use it for seeding, only classification. The best privates should be in the top class, not spread out among 5 classes. Im sure occasionally there will be some misses but we gotta keep teams like this IC team out of 3A, Montini out of 4A.

This eliminates the need for a multiplier and success factor. I would apply the success factor to publics though. Rochester 👁.

What would be the results that satisfy me? Something that resembles SF's run last season. Sure they won, but had 2 close games with publics then a competitive final. Runs like that, the 3-4-5 consecutive championships with no (or 1) competitive games ended.

I prefer them to remain together, but that will take an acknowledgement that the set up has not been equitable and then the beneficiaries of that inequity to assist in fixing it. That could have been done with more liberal usage of the request up button even when it means you might not have a realistic chance to win the 'ship in a particular year.

I agree with a lot of that…
If Montini and IC both win extremely close games late this week doesn’t that kinda mean they are properly classed? Or does it have to be two close games against public schools? Competitive final shouldn’t matter when IHSA is not trying for a competitive final in 6A and below.

A 2.5 multiplier is basically separation for the largest and smallest classes.

It removes the thorns in the sides of small public schools, and it throws larger public schools under the bus by dumping more private-school firepower into 7A and 8A. The result? Small publics celebrate, large publics suffer, and private schools will adapt as they always have and keep winning.

Then the large publics will start whining for their own version of "fairness," and the IHSA will inevitably modify the system again. The cycle never ends because public school whining has become a proven successful strategy.

Stop the madness and give me the NIPL!

I’m for separation. Get it over with. Let the Public’s castrate each other.
Eh, I agree, like mentally I'm to that point. Just means almost certainly schools like my alma mater will never come close again to winning a state title. Which is a bummer... Schools like BMD, QND, DST, pretty much to save from listing them all the entirety of private football teams outside the general Chicagoland area. I'm including SHG in that too, because you make them play JCA, Montini, etc from round 1, they aren't winning titles often.

It'll be tough for them to compete in a private-only world. But it is what it is at this point... don't like it, get better. We preach it, we gotta live by it also then.

All.... Using SHG's current enrollment (594) and applying the 2.5 Catholic Tax the Cyclones would be in class 6A among t the 2026 postseason qualifiers. It's my understanding SHG's enrollment will have again a gradual increase for 2027. Ratsy

The proposed modification to increase the enrollment multiplier from 1.65 to 2.5 better reflects the dynamics of the modern classification structure. The current multiplier was originally implemented during the two-class era and has not been recalibrated to align with the expanded classification framework and increases in population density across Illinois. This adjustment ensures that the system more accurately accounts for the advantages available to non-boundaried schools in terms of the area where they can draw student from and promoting equitable postseason competition.”

1st bolded point makes me believe this is more for sports other than football at mind.

what are the population density issues?

How was 1.65 initially developed? How is 2.5 developed? Why not 3.5? 7.5? Etc?

Why is there always a blind eye to the advantage publics have? My local public high school spends 18k a year on each student. I pay 16,500 a year in property taxes of which 12k goes to the local public schools. And their football program sucks. Why does it suck? Bc they have zero youth program and run the wingT at the 8A level. Whose fault is this?

It's an absolute joke to watch these public schools whine every year.

The multiplier hurts CPS public schools also. A lot of top teams in CPS are playing 2 and 3 levels higher than they should be already. Westinghouse should be 5A but were 7A. Clark was 6A and should be 3A, MP 6A - 4A, Young 8A -6A. 2.0 multiplier would flood 6A-8A with the very teams y'all complain about.
You're wasting keystrokes bringing up CPS on this board. There's like 5 people that care and two of them are me and you.

Makes a big difference when it comes to a vote though. With so many CPS schools they can pretty much dictate what passes if they all get together and vote the same way.

In the upper classes, They should allow the “boundaried” teams to pick 4 players on the opposing team that can only play 3 quarters

I don’t see why this can’t be worked out with the SF on an individual team basis. Think about it, this 2.5 thing is all about eleven CCL teams that have pretty consistent playoff success. The two teams that are the most heavily favored to win it all every year, LA and MC, would not be affected by an increase in the multiplier. That leaves nine teams in the entire state, BR, Rita, JCA, Fenwick, Naz, Provi, SF, Montini and IC. All of these teams vary year to year and would be brought down by the SF which is similar to a 2.5 multiplier. As for the rest of the states privates, is there really a need to impose a 2.5 multiplier on the likes of NND, St Pats, Marmion, Wheaton Academy, B Mac Altof, ACC or Hope? I think not

I've been thinking of a scaled multiplier. Perhaps that would work.

Can't multiply Montini & Chicago Christian the same way.

Everyone continues to be narrow minded and think this would only apply to football. Expanded multiplier would apply to all sports.

But how would you determine the scale every year? None of these nine are year in year out powers. Naz? They’re ok this year. Montini looses one of the best QB’s in the country and IC looses a ton. JCA? All these schools could be SF’d into submission without punishing the others

✋Stop right there! There is way too much knowledge and common sense in this post for most of the complainers….

I think there should also be a success factor applied to all schools
Thats actually a good idea. School population is a pretty archaic way to determine things in this day and age. You can have an 8A school with 90 kids on the varsity roster and an 8A school with 45 kids due to something as simple as demographics.

At some point the Radius restricted schools are going to have to stand up for themselves.

they have ti understand that they will never appease the other side no matter how many times they bend the knee

They can leave with the bigger Catholic schools and have the same competition issue, if not worse.
