I touched on this a bit in my
weekend preview, but Ramos has already taken four losses so far this season.
4-1 to high schooler Marcus Blaze (whose brother will wrestle for the Boilermakers at 157 this weekend), 8-5 to Jakob Camacho (NCST), 8-1 to Nico Provo, and 8-4 to Caleb Smith (Nebraska).
He's very much a high ceiling, 'low' floor type of wrestler. Depending on which version you get he can beat just about anyone, but he can also lose to a number of guys whom Ramos' ranking/best wins would suggest he shouldn't be.
And on the Ayala side of things Drake has seemingly only gotten better each time out this season. He got over the hump with Patrick McKee (then extended the gap when they met again on Monday), he's won a pair of pivotal matches on the road at ISU and Nebraska, and his win over Volk at the Soldier Salute was impressive as well.
We could be in store for a great match tomorrow, but as of this very moment I think I'd make Ayala the slight favorite.
