95% of the posters here want Pope to succeed, want him to win. They comprehend that we are down 2 PG's and still a recovering Carr. We know that this is incredibly challenging to overcome.

However....

I would conclude that most posters here are more upset and frustrated with this team right now because of the following reasons:

  • Soft
    • Lack of Effort
    • Mentally Leaving the Game
    • Refuse to try to be Physical

I guarantee you, that its HOW we are losing, not that WE are losing. In every loss, we lose the same. Everyone knows what that is. If our team SHOWED they want to WIN, more than half of these threads would not exist.

You're upset, because of HOW we lose, not that WE lose this year. The HOW has been consistent.

How do we win? We out scheme, we play as a cohesive unit. No more ISO, create defensive schemes that WORK with this team. Whatever that may be.

#1 reason why BBN has the right to be Frustrated is, because of lack of will to win, which equates them being soft.

If you're frustrated, that does not mean you hate Pope, you hate this team, you want Cal back. Or you're a bad fan or a bandwagon fan.

If we were losing games and we were competitive and still lost, most reasonable fans here would understand the hand Pope was given.

It's.
That.

You can be as frustrated as you want. So can I. Doesn’t change the fact that our roster is what it is. Considering Mark had about 10 minutes to put it together, I’d say he’s done an outstanding job. Let’s not dismiss the work he accomplished before the injuries. Lot of the national media were saying **** like “final four potential,” “coach of the year potential.”

We lost our back up PG right away and still won. Then lose our starting PG and only on ball defender, ouch. Lost Carr. Ouch. Down both PG’s and Carr - good luck man. Good luck.

Defense is an issue. I’m sure he could probably scheme out something better to help a bit, and maybe he will. But it won’t be a lot better.

I don’t think these guys aren’t playing hard. I think they are. They just aren’t good at some things, and we should have already known that. Athletically, they are limited. We knew that. I mean, they fought like hell the second half, just ****** up the first half. Ok, they had a ****** half and weren’t into it mentally. I’ll say Mark did a bad job there. But overall, he’s been amazing.

These are just my stupid opinions.

This is spot on, it’s HOW we are losing not that we lost. Effort & letting physical play destroy our game vs embracing it and doing what it takes to give us the best chance for successs. Great post!

We need more Dudes like Coach Tang said a few years ago. We need Dudes who can get theirs and also distribute. Get me some little jitterbug who is a magician with the ball and grease lighting. Until then let’s just keep being good fans and try to stay positive.

I mean Jackson Robinson literally had to dribble with his back to the defender because he’s so uncomfortable playing PG right now. The fact we’re still scoring like we are is mind boggling. I’m not sure what you guys expect with 3 of our top 7 out

I wanted to emphasize how much I agree with this. There did get to be some frustrated body language towards the end of that first half onslaught last night, but even if that wouldn’t happen in a perfect world, it’s a pretty reasonable human response when our guys were simply outmanned and Ole Miss was severely punishing every wrong move like that. This stretch of games has been disappointing as a fan after how the season started, but I don’t think it boils down to “we need to try harder”. I think the guys are giving what they can with the physical abilities they have, and that’s just coming up short more often than not right now.

Yeah for me it's effort. No excuses on not giving 100 out there every minute you're out there.

Like the Bull Dunham scene, lollygaggers. You lollygag to the ball, you lollygag to....
What's our record, 8-16, how in the hell did we ever win 8. It's a miracle. 🤡

What people fail to admit is that those imperfect people having the poor body language is because…..they actually do want to win. They were humiliated. Someone on the postgame show called Matt Jones out last night and rightfully so for saying the players aren’t playing hard or don’t care.

If they were capable of being something they weren’t they’d be a different team. Never understand this kind of logic. Of course that would be true, but it is not the case so it is an exercise in futility to imagine it otherwise.

What other imaginary scenarios would get us a better record? What if they were all eight feet tall? That would be really hard to beat too.

It’s a much better idea to live in reality. This team has a ceiling. That ceiling is lower because of injuries. There wasn’t a lot of room for them to dick around at full strength much less down PGs 1&2. It is what it is.

Everyone has the right to be frustrated. I can’t remember a single loss that didn’t frustrate me.
There’s a difference in being frustrated and stupid. That said, it’s a free country. Being stupid is legal too.
With Butler and Kerr out, it’s gonna be tough.
PG is a position that is difficult to play without. Getting someone to slide over and play it is much different than other positions.
It’s frustrating, but it’s reality.

Half of the replies here have massive reading comprehension issues. There is no what if scenarios, no we are not going to win anything. Do you comprehend what the word how means? Frustration is how we are losing games. That's it.

Quite a few on here never wanted Pope here,, still don't want him here and gave him zero chance to prove anything.. They don't say much whilst winning but bet your gotdamn bottom dollar they let it be known soon as the team gets down double digits and especially after a loss..

CMP tried every player but the walk-ons.

What do you suggest he does to force more aggressiveness from a team of non-physical players???

We are plagued with more than one MENTALLY SOFT players on this roster with no help on the bench.
Pope is going to have to recruit, recruit, recruit.

Offense is not the problem , we are a top 2 offense in the country.

speaking of which , everyone in the summer and preseason were saying we dont have the guys who can go get baskets meaning studs and it was all about offense. Funny how that myth needing them for offense is shattered completely.. but what we needed was to probably get 1 more athletic defender because you cant play Brea, Robinson and either Almonor or Carr at the same time or the defense is just too non existent

If only it were. The main thing that frustrated me was on June 1 of last year the University of Kentucky, for the first time in its history had 0 players on the roster for this year. Alot of people on here just gloss over that now. REALLY? As to your analysis of why we lost all the games we lost I disagree. Every team that beat us had QUICK super athletic guards and brought ball pressure out on our guards who weren't quick enough to blow by them. We had excessive turnovers in all of our losses. Finally in every loss the other teams 3 and4 position was much more physical and athletic than our 3 and 4.

Yes you are correct. We lost because of lack of athleticism. However, when we lost to St Peters, or Oakland, did they have more athletic guys then we did? Heck no. They over came us by out scheming us.

This is where i hoped Pope would excel at, is out scheming the other team and using that to leverage this team to his advantage to compensate for our lack of athleticism and physical play.

Pope has proven he can out scheme, but the question remains, is he over thinking it? Changing it up too much? Or are the players simply not listening? I have no idea.

I do know that when we play as a team with fight, we have a chance to be competitive, even against the physical athleticism. Having 2 PG's injury is a terrible loss and increases the challenge of that scheming against other teams.

I hate that basketball has to say this over and over. BE MORE PHYSICAL, it's basketball not football. However that is how the game is these days, mug ball in other words.
I really just want to see them get down and lock in on DEFENSE. I know we can score, I know we can shoot just play D like every possession is the very last ONE!

If this team has a desire to win anything or compete at a high level for the rest of the year, they will have to unfortunately learn to deal with going through contact. There was at least 3 examples of Jax during the Ole Miss game who had a wide open lane to drive the ball. Instead of going hard to the basket, he turned his back. That's just one example. I know these players don't like it and that sucks because its challenging to do something you don't want to do or don't like to do.

Soft is not just a physical thing, it's also a mental thing.

For the record, I believe in this team, we can do it. I believe in Pope. I want Pope to succeed. I really truly like this team. We all know they have been physically soft because of lack not wanting to play through it, and they lack severe athleticism which helps compensate for being physical. I think because they don't want to and they don't like it, therefore it affects their mental state of play which makes them play poor.
