According to MaxPreps, Washington, 11-3 entering tonight's game, was the #1 ranked 4A team in the state. My own SW Edgecombe came in at #6 with an 8-3 record. Washington has been lighting the scoreboard up, and I felt like it would be them, then us in the conference standings this year. But SWE just blew them out of the gym, 75-53. It was never close, as we led by 17 going into the 4th. I didn't see a team that scored 80 or more points 8 times so far. I didn't see a team that went to overtime with Farmville Central. Not did I see a team that was able to beat Reidsville. In spite of what calls may or may not have happened in that game, Washington shouldn't even have been close to Reidsville, much less beat them. Or maybe..... SWE is a contender that no one is talking about. If Washington was good enough to do all of those aforementioned things, then is SWE a decent team themselves? We dropped a pair to a very good Greene Central team and a 1 loss Martin County team early, plus a weird overtime loss to Tarboro in a Christmas tournament, but now SWE is playing their best ball, sparked by a smothering defense. Of course I'm admittedly biased, being their biggest fan, but even I didn't think we would beat Washington. Keep your eye on this neck of the woods.

Wow!! I been saying I wanted a rematch vs them. They kind of caught us fresh off the football field as well. Still a very good team they have. The east will be tough in 4a.

The nchsaa site had Lexington as #1, which also lost last night, but to #7 Ledford. That conference is absurd. It has the #2, 3, 6, 7, and 15 teams in the state in it. I’m really surprised Ledford is transitioning to that conference as well as it is; but I suppose given coach Ferguson’s history, especially with most of those teams in that conference when she was at Thomasville, it makes sense.

Seeing as how the NCHSAA uses Maxpreps for its playoff seedings, I'd say that Maxpreps is, or should be, the official rankings, like the AP poll used to be. It's crazy that the NCHSAA site would have its own ranking, when they don't even use it when it matters the most. But the NCHSAA and common sense have never been in the same room at the same time.

Max preps takes into account margin of victory. Nchsaa formula just takes into account records and they use max preps to determine records.

Folks need to take into account that not every school provides complete and accurate information to MaxPreps. Garbage in, garbage out.

Ledford has one of the top players in the state in Adam Grier. Ledford middle is what 58 and 2 over the last 4 years. Not surprising at all. Ledford Middle and High should be very good for the next 6 years

NCHSAA does not use Maxpreps for playoff seedings. And haven't for several years now. That is why they have their own RPI. It is based on 3 things. Record, Opponents Record, and Opponents Opponents Record (by record I mean winning %). It values you winning and playing good opponents but not margin of victory.
