13.5 point dogs to Bama. EASY money.

They just beat Tennessee by 17. I'm not a gambling man, but I wish I had bet on that OU game as I called it. This is just as easy money, in my opinion.

The team is reeling right now. The emperor has no clothes. The offensive players know they are on a mission of futility on every drive. The defense knows it has to hold teams under 10 points to have any shot in the game.

I look for this to be a 90s era UT or UF style blowout against us.

It feels like the wheels basically came off against OU. Something like 45-10 wouldn't surprise me.

I really thought OU was going to be an upset win. I couldn't have been more wrong. It looks like the team has given up on the season and maybe on Beamer.

I don't know how Beamer comes back from this for next season.

I guess you say he needs to make some serious staff overhauls. But how often does that work to save a coach's job? Overhauling the staff in Year 5/6 is a stall, at best.

Not so fast my friend.....

I fully expect us to beat Bama and here's why... It makes no F'n sense. That's exactly my point. I know, I know, I know..... bring on all the flames and people saying I have no clue what I'm talking about, etc... (Wouldn't argue with you if you did)

All I'm saying is if some foreigner asked me to describe South Carolina's football team after watching them and pulling for them for nearly 50 years I'd sum it up for them like this: "They sometimes beat teams they have no business beating and mostly lose to teams they have no business losing to. You never know what to expect and that's the hook. It's like a bad drug you can't walk away from."

Bama would be that game this year. Just sayin'. Do I hold out any hope that this season can be salvaged? Not really. Would I be surprised if we beat Bama? Not really. Beat Bama and lose out except for Coastal sounds about par for the course to me as a Gamecock fan. Makes no sense whatsoever. That's my point.

I would not be stunned if we beat Bama, for the simple reason you mention. We have, at times, won games we have no business winning.

I would absolutely not put money on it though. Odds are, Bama makes it a VERY long day for us. I hope they do, actually. I hope this game is the straw that breaks the camel's back in terms of forcing comprehensive staff changes.

Can you imagine the 'I-told-you-so' smack we'd hear from the HC at the post game presser if we were to beat Bama?!?

It would frankly be one of the worst things that could happen. It would only serve as "proof" that the system is working, which it clearly isn't.
It would possibly get Beamer that extension you want. If he beat Bama and Clemson and went 5-7, the playoff talk for next season would crank up.

I don't WANT Beamer to get an extension. I just said it makes no sense to bring him back on the hot seat and expect him to hire a decent OC. The only way to open to door to a competent OC is to give some assurance of job stability here, and that comes with extending Beamer and increasing the buyout.

You have to remember that the reading comprehension on here isn't that great.....

I knew people would misunderstand that I was making a blanket argument he should get an extension and increased buyout, which I am not.

Your post indicated that you thought we should do one or the other, fire him or give him an extension. I assumed that meant you were fine with either option.

I agree with your premise for what it's worth.

This would appear to give the impression of stability, but as we have found out this year in particular, increased buyouts and extensions only guarantee that given university will have a bigger payout when things do not work out well

That is true, but I think people know we can't afford to make the kind of moves schools like PSU and UF make. You could also make the OC's contract fully guaranteed.

I have serious doubts about that, if a new HC comes in, he would understandably want his own staff, and not want to inherit any leftovers.
That would be a deal breaker.

He wouldn't have to be retained by the new HC, but he would be paid the full balance of his contract.

I'm not saying any of these are attractive options.

But the other option, if we don't fire Beamer, is to retain in more or less lame duck status and have him either retain Shula (disaster) or hire some random candidate for OC who is willing work for a HC who will most likely be fired the next season (also disaster).

If a poll was taken, I believe that 70% of the fan base would say that Beamer needs to be fired at the end of the season. But, it won't happen this season, though it should.

Does anyone have next season's schedule?

Nothing in paragraph’s 2 & 3 is wrong. And for everything you said paragraph can happen. But it won’t this time. Why am I a fan of this team?

It's almost embarrassing that we have to continue field a team this year. The fewer people who see this team play, the better.
