The best defensive player that I saw this year was Logan Justice of Hurley, no one close to him including Cook and he didn't make anything.

Really though, I expected Nelson to be listed somewhere on the first or second team. I don't know what kind of stats he had this season but I thought he would've at least got a career achievement award

Cook was way better than BRADY Justice...only team to even shut hurley down and Cook was a major part of that ...but yes I agree JUSTICE was a great RB and should have made the team

He said Logan Justus not Brady Justice. Cook probably is a better lb than Brady.
This is the VHSL all state team. The VHSCA all state team hasn't been released yet so it could be different than this team. It's voted on by coaches.

don't put too much into all-state, all-region, all-conference, or all-district teams.... Not sure if you are familiar with how they work but it's more politics than anything....
You are exactly right, The 1A West had 6 JIB first team spots and they were definitely not
the best in the West.

All state teams are generally made up of the best players on the best teams, not necessarily all the best players. It's a whole lot easier to be good when your team is good. There are a lot of top level high schoop players who get screwed because the play on a bad team.

No way Nelson shouldn't be on any all-state team. He had over 1600 yards according to Roanoke Times. How many of those were against Hurley in the playoff game? I heard they finally played the stud in that game. Coach stood him on sideline a lot so not to run up score in regular season. That's about 500 more yards than Cook. Cook should have definitely made defense. But Nelson is one of state's all time leading rushers. Very political. I call BS

How about that do-it-all guy for Covington? I can't remember his name but he was the player of the night when they came to Riverheads.

Out of the six GW players, only two of them were all-state caliber. I am not sure what they base this on, I cant find high school season stats anywhere?

Dresser is a D1 athlete in my opinion, Nelson is not. He was a product of a system and low competition for all those yards. I know that will rub people the wrong way. Dresser stands out at any level in my opinion. Both darn good high school football players and were fun to watch.

Seriously? Have you looked at the 3 rivers district? State champion teams: Giles and Glenvar along with Radford for 3 years. 200+ yards against Hurley. And PM beat Covington twice! You need to look again

Don't want it to sound like I'm putting down a kid because I know they get on here but I just don't see him as a D1 player. Not on offense...and his sample size on defense is minimal for me to have an opinion on that. And if you go back and look at what he did against good defenses...Glenvar and Giles (not including Radford in that)...he never put up good numbers. And
PM is better coached than Covington traditionally, I feel like most people in the know, knows Covington talent wise is as good or better than 90% of the teams they play. Again, great player and I think he probably should have been on the all state team somewhere, but the Covington kid translates to the next level better based on pure ability. And I thought Dresser was a way better player than the Jones kid they had at linebacker who did get all state. That speaks to the politicality of those teams.

Maybe if dressler showed more class he could have made the team...I had respect for him until I seen all the cheap shots he took...his older brother was a class act ..only thing dressler has going for him at a D1 level is size...good athlete but no where near the best I've seen from Covington.. Just my opinion

I don't disagree with anything you said. But I do think he has the size and the ability to move well enough to play linebacker at an FCS school or D2.
