Wow Mitchell. That was a blow out. What happened against Mt. Heritage. Seems that conference is similar to the SMC. With Hendo smashing Mt. Heritage..Mitchell beating Hendo...and...Mt Heritage smashing Mitchell..sounds like very good parity at the top..The MVAC at the top is similar as well this year between the 4 Wilkes County teams.

4 trips inside the 10 no points, 2 late turnovers and 2 tds and 2 point conversions later it looks like a blowout.

Yea, Heritage pulled away late. 18-7 in the 4th. Heritage coach put ultimate faith in his team and went for it on 4th and 2 on his on 18 yard line. Once Heritage got that first they had a long time consuming drive. Then a couple turnovers as wormy said and what was a real competitive game finished at 34-7.

Hard to believe for the second year in a row the same 3 teams beat each other again.

Now Mitchell has to beat a much improved Madison team and a beat up Avery squad to finish tied for first. Madison will be a tall task as Mitchell lost two key players to concussions Fri night.

Just a weird game, opening kickoff bounces off Mitchell and right back to Heritage and it was all bad luck from there. Mitchell had a td that would have give them the lead at the half reversed after they were already snapping the ball for the extra point, and out gained Heritage 136 to 113 in the first half, but still trailed 12 to 7. We also lost our best offensive playmaker and maybe our best linebacker to concussions on back to back plays in the first half. Mitchell had the ball 8 times, scoring once, getting inside the 10 four times without scoring, turning it over inside their own redzone twice and only punting once, now that right there is the recipe to lose a game. Like others have said Heritage tacked on 2 late tds and two 2 point conversions in the final 5 minutes to make it look much worse than it was. Heritage is a dang good team though and I feel is a legitimate threat in the 2a playoffs now that they are healthy again, they also blew out 3a Erwin this year who was thought to be the best team in WNC regardless of classification coming into this year, so no shame in losing to them, just hurts knowing how many opportunities were blown in the game.

You are correct but as bad as I hate to say it, take nothing away from Heritage. Their defense stepped up in the red zone and Mitchell couldn't get off the field on multiple third Downs. All credit to Heritage for making the plays. Heritage could make a long run in the playoffs depending upon match ups.

Just hope the loss doesn't hurt Mitchell's playoff seeding.

I'd say Murphy is small 1A. Of course we hear the numbers are up because of the casino being built but I'd say they still play down. Mitchell no clue on them. From what I've read and by their descent from the big 1A so quickly I'd say they would be small before too long. If they go small then they (Murphy & Mitch) are heavy favorites to be playing for the right to represent the west. I know Murphy has credible wins in their season and their QB is legit. Playoff are going to be exciting if these two do go small. Don't get me wrong I would hate if Murphy goes small. R'ville was schlacked hard by Murphy. But 4 years ago the same thing happened regular season and R'ville came out and put up a good fight in the playoffs. That's all I could hope for if there is a rematch giving the history we have being put out in the first round by teams we schlacked. Just have to wait and see and pray our boys get some fire under their rears.

Alleghany has made the playoffs. Anybody in 1A that wins 2 games are in the playoffs. Best chance they get a home game in playoffs however is if murphy and mitchell both go small, pushing Alleghany to 2 seed in midwest.

Mitchell was barely 1aa last year at 519, numbers I'm hearing are around 480

Guys Mitchell has a very good team, good QB and a strong line, better not sleep on them or you will get sent home.

Biggest difference between Mitchell this season and last is they don't have as much depth on the line. They still have multiple play makers at the skill positions. Even though a couple got concussions Friday night and should miss the game this week. They should be ready to go by the playoffs.

The line play is still good but can get tired easier than last year.

Mitchell won't have to be as good, they will be small 1A. They will have a shot to get back to the state title game for sure, and in fact, may be favored in the west especially if Murphy and Mount Airy are up. If all three of those in small 1A west it will be quite the battle.

I think the cut off will be a little above 490? that being said I heard Mt Airy was around 510? and Murphy was up 40 from last year at 497 i believe

someone said Murphy doesn't count their special education kids cause they are off campus. This could be why they stay small. I'm asking for anyone that knows not trying to start an arguement

The 40 kids is in increased enrollment, not ADM, which is average daily attendance.

But if there really are 40 more kids enrolled at the high school you would think the ADM would go up at least 20, so you would assume at least 510 for the Murphy reported ADM this year.
