in the west: polk, east surry, swain county, possibly murphy if they go up. In the east: tarboro, edenton, princeton? thoughts?
Granville Central will likely be #4 in the east. They will be a conference champion as they only have to beat Louisburg in their conference and they lost to Princeton earlier this season by 4.in the west: polk, east surry, swain county, possibly murphy if they go up. How funny would it be if East Surry got put in the eastern bracket. It may sound crazy but they are closer to Tarboro than North Stanly was last year.
There are 4 1a teams farther West than North Stanly before East Surry. WS Prep, South Stokes, North Stokes, and North Rowan. How funny would it be if East Surry got put in the eastern bracket. It may sound crazy but they are closer to Tarboro than North Stanly was last year.
Good stuffIf the brackets were selected today, 1aa would look real similar to this:
East
1 Tarboro
2 Holmes
3 Princeton
4 Rosewood
5 Granville Central
6 Manteo
7 Hobbton
8 North Rowan
9 South Stanly
10 Riverside
11 Lakewood
12 East Carteret
West
1 East Surry
2 Polk
3 Mount Airy
4 Swain
5 Starmount
6 Avery
7 MICS
8 Bessemer City
9 Pine Lake Prep
10 East Wilkes
11 Cherryville
12 CSOD
Now bear in mind this doesn't reflect conference champions, and is based off last year's numbers. The big/small cutoff is Hobbton 501 and South Stokes 500.
The East/West cutoff is East Surry longitude 80.47, and North Rowan 80.43. With some numbers and ranking shuffling, it is very possible that East Surry ends up in the East.
East Surry is due north of Charlotte 12 to 15 miles from the Virginia state line and Mount Airy is 54 miles from Virginia. North Stanly is east of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County closer to South Carolina. Not a lot of difference but NS probably 25 closer east and due south of Stokes County. I can't See them sending a #1 west seed east and can't ever remember them doing so. That would be totally unfair for the west and hopefull thinking for some in the west. LOL.Not sure how they determine who goes where, but if North and South Stanly went East last year - you would think it would be a possibility of Mt. Airy or East Surry going East.
Uhhh they did it last year. That's why mount airy and East Surry were able to make it to the 4th round. It's all about longitude. You can't just look at a map and go, duuuh that luuks west.East Surry is due north of Charlotte 12 to 15 miles from the Virginia state line and Mount Airy is 54 miles from Virginia. Read the fine print. It doesn't take conference champions into consideration. Swain is ranked 4th behind East Surry, Polk, and Mount Airy.Swain 4th in West? Or is this assuming we loose to Murphy and or Robbinsville? If we are Conference champs and undefeated or even if there is a three way tie then I see us being a 2 seed.
Thank you. Hence why the would have been #1 seed North Stanly ended up a 5 seed in the east.Last year the East-West line was North Stanly going east and North Rowan going west.

It happened last year.NCHSAA would never let that happen. They want a Big Championship gate.
I think the gap may have closed a bunch since last year.It happened last year.
The gate would probably be the same no matter who’s in the title game. I’ve been to 7 state title games and the crowds have been basically the same at all of themNCHSAA would never let that happen. They want a Big Championship gate.
Mount Airy beat Swain in the 1st round and lost to East Surry in the 2nd round. Maybe y'all have lost me. Gets harder every year to keep up with changes. Sorry !Uhhh they did it last year. I'm sorry, you are correct. Still, the fact remains, North Stanly was the best 1aa West team... right up until they went east.Mount Airy beat Swain in the 1st round and lost to East Surry in the 2nd round. Maybe y'all have lost me. Gets harder every year to keep up with changes. Sorry !

I would wager trying to get thru Holmes and Tarboro would be a wee bit tougher than trying to get thru Mount Airy and Starmount...Now wouldn’t that be some kinda stupid to see east Surry in the east
Sorry I was looking at Mount Airy's schedule and missed a week. Forgot Mount Airy got a first-week bye. I just remembered Mount airy lost the 2nd game they played. That was second and third round last season. Swain played and beat MIC in the first round.
Seriously tho the whole west/east line is kinda stupid every year. Sometimes I’m like HOW is that even a thing
no different than Whiteville playing 2A West....couple of years ago they had to travel all the way to Burnsville (Mountain Heritage) for a 2nd round playoff game.....now that's a haul.................Now wouldn’t that be some kinda stupid to see east Surry in the east
I would love for Mitchell to come up otherwise I don’t know that East Surry will have a tough game until the title unless Swain gives us one. This is fun and all but let’s play some more football and see how conf. play goes. Some of us have a lot of battles left to fightI’m sure Mitchell is gonna have something to say about this if they go BIG 1A

Mitchell are one of very few that stylistically can present issues for East with their power run game and big line(s). Swain has the run game and the big line and linebackers but they don't have the height that Mitchell has with some of their skill people and secondary. Mitchell's QB and WR are more athletic than anyone on Swain's team as well. Mitchell are probably one of the few teams with some legitimate height in the secondary that East would potentially see.I would love for Mitchell to come up otherwise I don’t know that East Surry will have a tough game until the title unless Swain gives us one.
Mitchell is as rounded as any team you’ll see in 1a/1aa. They have size on the line, a great passing/ running qb. Good backs, good receivers. Defensively they are sound, good d line and good secondary. But they would be hard pressed to contain a very athletic team like ES. They would welcome the challenge of course, but it would be a tough challenge.Mitchell is one of the few that stylistically can present issues for East with their power run game and big line(s). For perspective last season this same group pretty much at Mitchell played a good 3AA spread team that was more athletic overall than East Surry is, Erwin. Mitchell held their own in that game for the most part, just losing by 13. Of course that Erwin team didn't have anybody like Gosnell at WR, that kid is on another level, but still. I get where you're coming from about Mitchell struggling with a team like East but I think Mitchell would give East a good game either way.Mitchell is as rounded as any team you’ll see in 1a/1aa. I believe Mitchell has a better defensive coordinator this year , he seems more aggressive.Mitchell is as rounded as any team you’ll see in 1a/1aa. Well yeah will find out more when they play better about the whole team. But even before I knew they had a new D coach I noticed they blitz more and just seem to have a more aggressive attitude, instead of just it seemed before sometimes they were sitting back and letting it come to them. Not a ton of difference that I can see but they’ve not hit conference yet and really haven’t been challenged. I think the Mitchell staff as a whole is really good.
