TJ is not usually hyped up that I've seen...Last year it was a 2nd round exit to MICS but anyone around the program last year knew that we were solid, but that we should be better this year. A junior dominated team last year, now a senior dominated team this season. The year before last it was a 3rd round exit against a good CSD team that we had already lost too that season. And the year before that was a 3rd round exit against Alleghany. As the record says this is probably the best team TJ has had.

If Isaiah Evans runs tha ball like he did Friday will be fine, that's tha very best I've seen him all year!! How did union beat Thomas Jefferson?? That's cute, bet all there games were cute!! Haha!! Starting QB left the game early in the 2nd quarter and did not return. Back-up QB/RB was dealing with a foot/ankle injury and tried to play, but couldn't play in the 2nd half. 3rd string QB had to play the entire 2nd half. Starting OLB was dealing with an injury, and could not play in the 2nd half. TJ tried some different things on the D-Line that didn't work. TJ was 10-0. and beat BC and MICS the previous two weeks. Union Academy in week 12 of the season was a "perfect" trap game as they had lost to both of those teams, so TJ was likely looking more toward the playoffs instead of being focused only on that game.
Come on man!! All that talk about that conference by not so rich black dude has ruined it for all of unz!! Are you countin mic as a creditable win???
LOL Very few expected TJ to beat MICS. SMC fans were asking Rich/SmokingGunz if TJ "had anything" for MICS....but after the win y'all quickly changed your tune....just looking for the next way to bash teams that y'all don't like. Discredit teams that aren't in the SMC...

Bessemer City: 199 yards rushing against Swain County > 74 yards rushing against TJ...You can keep dreaming that TJ's rush defense is bad just because of one bad game.
And it wasn't just losing the starting QB. It was losing the backup QB/RB. It was not having a fully healthy starting OLB. It was trying a couple different players on the DL that didn't work.
Well....I guess TJCA is the best. Sized for rings and all that. Rings already ordered. Already beat everybody worth beating. Got 10 quarterbacks. TJCA is 1A football. TJCA's head coach is Chuck Norris. TJCA third string could beat Murphy and Mt Airy. TJCA...just be humble.....
I'm not no inside guy with the program but I do live in the county. From what I have been told/seen its a lottery system for kids. Their are a lot of Clevland co. kids that attend ( see buses traveling up and down 74 ) you do not have to live in Rutherford co. to attend. So I guess you could say they could recruit kids. Now I have no idea if they try to recruite or even do for that matter. But I personally have seen more kids go to Clevland co. schools that leave the 3 high school to go to TJ.

I think the Rville and Mitchell game will be a lot closer than some may expect. I for once do not know the winner of this one. I'll pull for Rville due to SMC affiliation. But it's one of those "who wants it more games". In my

Talking about a coach with more wins than most of the coaches in the SMC and/or in NC could EVER dream off. 325 wins. Letting guys rest up for the playoffs. Trying to gain a size advantage using the tallest guy on our team on the D-line, it just didn't work. By the time TJ went back to the more traditional line, McMullens was out, our backup OLB was in the game, and UC had most of the momentum.
Let's talk about Shelby poaching ("recruiting") players from other Cleveland County Schools.
What the F is this... pretty terrible unneeded impersonation of rich black man? Why? I would never and have not said anything close to that. And the only point I've been trying to get across is that this should be a pretty good close/competitive game.
TJ has been around since the 90's. Didn't have a football team until 08-09. TJ is focused on academics not football. TJs recent success is due to Coach Cash and hard work. TJ isn't bringing in a lot of star athletes and they aren't trying too. In fact one of TJ's best players left in the off-season and went to Shelby High to play football.
Bottom line is these charters and academy’s have an advantage. Now some don’t recruit. My daughter attends one and they simply don’t recruit. There is one in an opposing county that does. But the ability to is there. I coached my daughters middle school soccer team two years ago and we had players from (that year) a 1A school, 3 2A schools, a 3a school, and a 4a school - at least where they lived. That’s the ones I’m certain of. And was 3 different counties. So obviously it’s s huge advantage over true small 1As such as Cherokee, Robbinsville, Murphy.
They are PUBLIC schools. They are NOT SUPPOSED to recruit, just like normal public schools. But maybe SOME do, just like SOME public schools. There have been whispers and talk for years in Cleveland County about Shelby/Crest/Burns recruiting. I'm sure in MANY counties with multiple schools there will be whispers of those schools trying to recruit. And honestly NC just made it easier this past offseason for recruiting/transferring by getting rid of the 365 transfer rule, which allowed a TJ player to transfer to Shelby. TJ doesn't recruit and only has around 340 students...so what exactly do y'all propose?? Putting all Charter Schools together?? How are you going to seperate those Charter Schools. I don't know if there are 2A/3A/4A Charter Schools and/or how many there are, but I'm pretty sure TJ (for example) shouldn't have to play them. Also are there enough Charter Schools so that schools aren't having to drive hours every Friday to play a football game...You are worried about the "traditional" schools but not worried about PUBLIC Charter schools that follow the rules and don't really have an "unfair" advantage.
Don't know. Doesn't matter now. The main reason was trying to gain a bigger size advantage. Probably trying to see if that line could work, and possibly give us another option moving foward into the playoffs against the bigger lines we are facing now.
And given what happened to Cherokee against Murphy, yes TJ would probably be hosting. But TJ coaches weren't expecting Murphy to beat Cherokee like they did, and Cherokee falling so far in the MaxPreps rankings.
Well Elkin isn’t even comparable to Cherokee! Trust me I have seen them both play and they are even close. It should be a good ballgame though I give the edge to the Braves with home field advantage.
I remember TJ in its infancy. I watched a Holiday tournament they were in and it looked like the band members put on b-ball jerseys. It was horrible to watch. Fast forward to 2014 and their team had legit athletes when they visited R'ville for b-ball. Not debating just detailing a dramatic rise from 07 to now.
We know nothing will ever be proven about any of those Cleveland Co. schoolsTJ really does not recruit. I know the football of the county pretty well and I have never seen kids say I'm going to TJ to play sports. Now you better watch Ol Cleveland co. they will cherry pick if able
TJ has a good QB, decent line. But they haven't been hit all year. Rough em up, and they'll tap out like MICS, Union Academy, and CSD last week. I could tell that CSD hadn't played anyone nearly as physical as Mitchell, and the Mountaineers were only about half Throttle.
