I've got a photo of Leroy Byrd posterizing Billy The Kid on the Blue Courts. Leroy's nuts are all up in BTK's grill.

Hasn't been verified by any photography experts yet...but it's a pretty cool pic.
@Kaizer Sosay , your memory ain't what it used to be, but you're close. It was a game in Rupp. The picture below was snapped milliseconds before Leroy threw it down. The photographer was so stunned to see him fly like that that he missed the shot in which Billy spun around and got a taste of 'Little Leroy'.

Two things amazed me.
1. Billy was allowed to bring a gun.
2. He never bothered to use it.

It was nice of him to spare the lives of the 23,000+ basketball fans, though. Good guy.

[laughing] Yeah, I guess my memory is fading. Could have swore that took place in a pickup game on the Blue Courts. Forgot all about the Ole Miss game. I think I have that game on VHS. Gotta be worth some big $$$$.

I'd appreciate a summary, since I don't have access to the NG special. What confirmed the authenticity of the BTK photo?

TIA.

From what little detail there is it doesn't look like the same person in the verified photo and the one playing croquet . Eyes seem further apart with less eyebrow , besides that you would think he would have a gun holster on at all times . Maybe it is him but I wouldn't buy that photo based on the distance it was taken from , I guess if you believe it's btk that's all that matters .
Pretty good chance that's what he's hiding behind his back.

It's only worth $5M when someone pays that much for it & then only to that person.

The times that he had. The life that he lived. I guess he must've got caught. His innocence lost. I wonder where he is. I miss Billy The Kid.

Here is a pretty good summary of 1.) experts calling the photo a hoax, followed by 2.) the producers of the Nat Geo show defending it.

After reading the best evidence the photo's owners could put forward, I wouldn't pay $500 for it, much less $5 million. A lot of circumstantial guesses woven into a nice story, but nothing that comes close to being proof.

Great documentary of the process. The new owner of the photo is such a noob.

Rumor has it BTK was a 4* croquet recruit that Cambridge recruited hard.

Thanks for that link. Good article.

My favorite part is the 1st comment: "It is Billy! I was there with Brian Williams!" [roll]

They used hills in the background on Tunstalls farm to claim a match but when they do an overlay it is flimsy at best due to erosion of the land . I don't believe what they presented and it certainly wasn't enough to warrant any significant money . Quite frankly they need much better and more proof , that said it could be real but the photo is too far away to indentify anyone accurately .

Thanks. I don't see how anyone could take the 5 Million $ bait... I think I read that the one for sure photo only got around half of that?

The owner of the photo is cashing in on whatever he can (the NG special, Old West events, maybe a book, etc.) for now... and hoping somebody with money to burn takes a chance on it for 100K at the end. Still not too bad, considering his initial investment.

This photo had several other of the regulators in it which has been confirmed. That alone makes me believe it is authentic.

You don't say what would be much better & more proof to you. And it wasn't just the terrain match, it was the building foundation match at the right spot for the photo. They proved BtK was in the area at the time due to the Chisholm's diary & as someone else said, they've proved who others in the photo are. Net, don't know what else you want.

They didn't prove the others in the photo , you sound like the guy with the picture who was convinced no matter what . They stated that facial recognition does not work with two dimensional pictures . They did not prove that picture at all with the background either as already stated , look there are some people who stand to gain a lot of money if it's proven and they made attempts to get paid . They can't prove that the picture was in the area that you speak of Billy being in , they showed their evidence and then threw in a massive qualifier by stating that you have to account for land erosion . You are eager to believe what they presented but I can't fathom how you think it's ironclad .

Pretty cool story. The thing that makes the story believable is the fact that the guy on his left who is pointing was the easiest to identify as Tom O'Folliard, who was a regulator and was also Billy's best friend. Also, they were able to potentially identify Charlie Bowdre, another one of the regulators, far to the right on horseback, but the image is pretty blurry there so a positive ID is impossible. The most interesting piece of identification, however, was that they were able to use several landmarks to positively identify that the picture was taken at John Tunstill's ranch which, when you consider the timing of the photograph (early 1880's), puts it right at the right time period for it to be Billy. Pretty interesting story if it truly is Billy in that it could mean that there might be other tintypes of Billy floating around out there.

The guy bought the tintype for $2. If it indeed sells for $5 million, could that be the greatest investment payoff of all time?
