Guarantee you.... Under Mark Stoops that is not going to happen...
Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I think Stoops will open up the reigns if he brings someone with an uptempo offense in. IMO, he knows that his job could possibly be on the line in the next year or two. I am hoping he lets the OC do his thing.Agreed.
If Gran is the man he has no choice. And letting Gran do his thing would be the right choice anyway.Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I think Stoops will open up the reigns if he brings someone with an uptempo offense in. I'm in the minority but I think this 'up tempo' stuff is overblown. It works great for the teams who are already good, not that great for mediocre teams and not at all for crappy teams. If you're not picking up first downs (i.e., crappy), you've got a bunch of quick 3-and-outs which kills your defense. With all the talent and speed Oregon normally possesses, you're telling me it's the TEMPO that decides games for them? Sure, it can create problems for a defense but more problems than a Mariota or the seemingly endless streams of sub 4.4s backs and WRs they have on the roster? Uptempo when you're moving the ball, maintains the mismatches you're trying to exploit. If you're struggling to get a single first down like UK, why run the plays faster?
That said, UC's offense has always looked really difficult to defend. If ours ends up being anything like what I've seen them run, I'm more than OK with that.

Actually it would be "Loosen the reins" since reins are the leather strips that are held by the rider. You can rein in a horse by tightening the reins, or you can encourage a horse to run by loosening the reins, tactics used by the swift Arab cavalry to little success when the Byzantine empire reigned.I agree with the post and think you are a very intelligent poster, which is why I chose to ask you for this clarification, I think reigns and reins are interchanged improperly by MANY posters, and think it is in this case, I think it should be reins, is there a definition of the two that I am missing?
He has opened up a new "reign" in our offense by installing a new OC, I hope it is a success..
"If" Gran is hired (which I hope he is), this will be the third explosive, up-tempo, spread guy hired by Stoops. And yet many of you still act like Stoops wants to run a triple option power rushing attack.
Brown didn't have the personnel to run his offense, Dawson offense couldn't execute. If you think Stoops wants to hire another high powered offense only to force them to run something they don't want to do, my goodness you need to take a break and reassess your stance.
Correct observation...plain as the nose of your face.Brown in so many words said that he and Stoops didn't see eye to eye. Dawson flat out said he and Stoops had "philosophical differences." Both of those guys averaged close to 85 plays a game before they came here. They averaged around 65 here. Did you not see Stoops constantly in Dawson's ear on the sideline and the confused look on Dawson's face over and over? I did and I believe they are equally to blame but if Stoops hires Gran, he needs to step aside and let him run the offense how he wants to. Stoops will just have to adjust his defense to fit the offense if he wants to keep his job.
likely one of the best comments I've read on this deal.Brown and Dawson had never coached as an OC in the SEC before.
Hopefully it works like the 06 team after it's beat down at the hands of LSU the team opens up and starts to play some football and not like Curry's Last team which didn't loosened up until after he was fired. Only time will tell.likely one of the best comments I've read on this deal.
