Badet, Timmons, Johnson, and Baker our starting WR sounds good. Dangerous. Surprised to see Bone dropped so much even with the injury.

Elam, Meant, Miggins the DL starters. Not too bad, IMO. I think it'll be interesting to see how some spots shore up, but I like that lineup so far.

Also, something I noticed was that while looking through the roster, some points I thought to myself, "How are we going to find playing time for these guys?" Depth is not only touted guys, but young and developing. Kengera Daniel is a helluva athlete, soph, and is third string. I like that.

Surprisingly, I can find no errors on that chart which is hardly ever the case on a published depth chart.

We look awesome at WR and I love the secondary too. Thats some big time SEC talent.

One surprise though is that King is ahead of Horton.

Substantively, no. Agree with pretty much all of the moves (slightly surprised at Kengera at 3rd string).

One typo though - "Tavid" (in the article at least, that's as far as I went).

One surpise to me was McClain penciled in as one of the starting safeties with West running 2nd behind him. Love how Stoops recruits db's to play multiple positions. So when we go nickel, can play bigger with bringing in West or more coverage skill with Randolph.

Was hoping Laster would be running 1st team D as well, but never really seen a pte season UK depth chart look soooo satisfying with talent backing up the starters.

I'm very encouraged to see Bell ahead of Kengera and Firios ahead of Kash. If Bell and Firios can be quality backups that would be huge for those positions. Kengera and Kash are quality players so if Bell and Firios (who no one has been talking about) have been impressing enough to beat them out then that's great news

What is nice is there are only six seniors starting this season so this team will be gaining a lot of playing experience for the future. Plus, the players moving into starting spots next year are talented.

Big George not starting? Surprised by that.

I expect he'll be making his way into the starting spot once he gets a more permanent feel for his natural position and not tackle. Remember that although he's a guard prospect, his college career has largely been at tackle.

Horton behind King kinda worries me at RB depth.
Why? King looked good in the spring and outplayed Horton in my opinion. Horton will probably get passed up by Snell and Rose too. I love Horton. He has done all the right things to get himself better and help his team win games. He just hasn't been able to break through. I hope he does this year but I just don't think he will ever be the player we hoped he would be.

Horton behind King kinda worries me at RB depth.

I think a quick, shifty back will usually play more downs than a 6'+ bruiser used in 3rd downs and goal line scenarios in our offense.

Also, why does a sophomore overtaking a pretty good junior worry you about depth? King will be here longer.

I guess I should not have said worried, I am just concerned a bit about the progression of Horton. I mean, he is a guy who seems to need more than a few carries to get going. You are correct though, he is smash mouth and will be VERY valuable for 3rd and shorts.

Horton will never be our main back at UK. He was brought in to be a bruiser, and based off what we've seen flashes of in the past, he could very well be that bruiser. He will get carries if there aren't any unforeseen circumstances, and I look forward to watching Horton run over a cornerback in open field. I can only dream.

I'm going to wait for the fall camp end depth chart before I talk about anything.

This depth chart is basically what it looks like going into fall camp.

It will look somewhat different by the end of fall camp.

I expect Landon Young to start. I think he'll play a role much like Wyatt at Clemson.

If Daniel and Daniels are running 3d team they should RS.

No Pringle at NT?

Stephen Johnson only up to 183? Better hope his insurance premiums are up to date.

Horton has to quit running so upright. He gets brought down too easily because he doesn't keep his pad level low enough. He dances too much at the LOS too instead of hitting the hole at full speed

I'm guessing West has only slipped due to his concussion situation so no surprise there and plenty of depth anyway.

Like others said it's early and these charts are very fluid as the separation between even 1 and 3 can be very slight in some cases.

I just love these 12 and 13 position "depth" charts. [laughing]

Seriously, after factoring in those that could not practice in the spring, isn't this really just the "official" release of what was expected after the B/W game?

A few things that caught my eye...

> Hyde's career at FB is over and he is back where he should be
> Depth at "DE" (i.e., 4 tech; actually a DT position) looks undersized regardless of what you call it
> Elam apparently has not lost weight
> O-line looks "big but trim"
> If the O-line 2 deep stands it will offer the opportunity to RS both Jackson AND Young
>> For that matter, it appears no t-FR HAS to play (but some will)
> 18 of top 26 on offense are upperclassmen; 12 of top 24 on defense are upperclassmen
>> This reinforces the notion the offense must "carry the team" this year.

Peace

LB being manned by babies. Of the proposed 2-deep LBs, only 3 have played in a SEC game. That's beyond scary. May be a good unit in time but they're starting the season in a hole.

Undersized compared to who? Most the 3 4 teams I have scouted use a 260 290 pound dend. Miggins at 285 is not small by any standard. If weight was the criteria for this staff we could move one of the many dt bodies to that spot lol

Can't agree more...if Leavitt can't beat out Mosier by mid-point...that is going to be a nightmare for Drew Barker.

The "DE" in the 3-4 scheme usually plays over (or shades) the offensive tackle. He will be blocked mostly by the OT or maybe a pulling OG. IOW, a 260# "DE" is going to be blocked just about every play by a 300# plus player. IMO, he needs to be closer to DT size than 4-3 DE size.

Peace

What I love....

Only three defensive starters lost after this season (really two considering I see West taking the safety spot). Six starters are Sophmores but they are talented giys like Baity, Westry, Edwards and Ware.

Only two offensive starters lost after this season (not counting fullback position) and Timmons being one doesn't hurt as much due to depth at WR. Only two starters are Sophmores, so it isn't like we are playing freshmen still.

This season is all about taking steps forward. Make a bowl game and compete on a weekly basis and then next year...look out! 2017 has always been the year to look for the big jump.
