2018 Big Ten Tournament

Was just reading about the Big Ten tournament being at the Garden next year. That should be interesting. The ACC Tourney will be in the Barclays Center this year and next year too. What happens to the Big East Tourney next year. Is that still at MSG?

Wow that's interesting. So the season will end a little earlier and the Big Ten tourney will run when the mid majors run I guess? And then a week off until Selection Sunday?

its going to be awesome, I hope RU fans participate in this...even if RU does not go far, tournaments like that are a great experience, our fan turnout there in the Big East was pretty poor.

I only made the trip to the Garden for one Big East Tournament, the year we lost to Boston College by I think 11.

Call me a traditionalist, but I hate the Big Ten and ACC tournaments being in New York. I'm sure they will be a big success, and I do not think it's a "mistake," technically, but much like the demise of old rivalries and round-robin football schedules because of conference expansion, this "footprint" thing bugs me. The Big Ten, despite the presence of Penn State, Maryland and Rutgers, just belongs in Indy or Chicago to me. The ACC? Tobacco Road, althouth because of HB2 maybe Atlanta.

And yeah, I hate the Ivy League having a tournament.

And yes, I do have indoor plumbing, an Internet connection and a smartphone. But my college sports are -- except for the notion of playing Lehigh and Lafayette again -- rooted in the past. Sue me.

It's weird that this is being played a week before all the major tournaments. That's kinda sad. Big time college conference tournaments are made to be played selection Sunday weekend. You're going to have some teams go to the NCAA tournament and have almost 2 weeks in between games . Hey, maybe it helps or maybe it doesn't matter . This also probably means the conference schedule starts earlier next year.
The Rutgers perspective this works out pretty well. School's travel costs are low and season is over and out of our misery earlier.

I think the schedule was spread out this year alot...I think RU went 3 times where they had no game for a week. So I think they already started doing this by having games in late December and then having a game on New Years.

I think it will be well attended and it might siphon off fans from the BE tourney because it is a week earlier and the ACC tourney will be taking fans away from the BE tourney for sure, but ewww all those Cuse fans in Brooklyn

For the last few years, the Rutgers basketball season never really began.

Personally think the ACC in Brooklyn is stupid------MSG every now and then fine.

I like that I can see ND play but to me it's silly.

I still remember the 1998 BET semis when RU as a 12 seed in Bannon's first year played top seed UConn. Cuse and St John's (when they were very good under Jarvis) was the other semis...that was awesome. BET was something special, in 99 we lost to an excellent SJU team in the 2nd round...I went to the BC game that was a 8/9 game that we gave away, like against VT some years later...was great to break away from work in the city and go to the day games...

The Billet runner to beat 13th seeded GTown 61-60, after being down by 15 or so in 2nd half, ranks up there...my friends and I took the train up from RU and were stoked to do it for a 3rd straight day...back then got tix easily at the RAC...

NIT was excellent in the Garden in 2004-05...ISU and then UM in Final, though losing...

It wouldn't shock me for some schools to actually schedule a game for after B1G tournament.

I also think it is a positive in that teams can go full tilt in conference tournaments not worried about flying home Sunday only to have to get on a plane Tuesday night to the west coast after playing 3-4 games in 3-4 days.

I attended MSG almost every year for the Big East Tournament. I love going to MSG and attended both the Fordham and Wisconsin games as well. I was there when we played Minnesota in the NIT many moons ago as well as our huge win over West Virginia, the Ohio State victory in the 1978 Holiday Festival and the game with Louisville when Denny Crum stalled the ball plus the 2006 NIT games vs. Iowa State & Michigan plus many more like Kentucky & Manhattan in the Holiday Festival and Stony Brook and Manhattan only a few years ago.

As for next year it was announced quite a while ago that I believe all teams in the BIG will play 2 games the first week of December next year because the BIG Tournament will start a week earlier. I suppose that will make our OOC games even more congested or else we could possibly play a game or two from the OOC later in the season where we might have only one game in a week.

While the week off will be nice the rust could be tough too and any momentum might be lost. Think it could be awfully risky for teams moving on.

Horizon League Tournament ends Match 7th this year...Oakland played @ Michigan State 12-21 this year. In 2018 make it March 11th.

Patriot is done March 8th Loyola MD would love to play Maryland March 11th

MVC starts today Northwestern or illinois. i am sure indiana State wouldn't mind playing.

Wouldn't be wise for Rutgers to schedule a game though

I don't think the week early thing is a big deal. There are several conferences playing tournaments this weekend. Yeah sure, a team could lose its edge, but it may also be nice to have another mini-training camp and get some guys healthy who may have been nursing injuries. I will definitely be going to some of the games.

As for the traditionalist comment, when did the Big 10 start playing a conference tournament? I seem to think it's not that old. It's not like we're messing with the World Series, oh yeah, that's right, we already did with the DH and home field advantage rule. Just looked it up- the tournament has been played since 1998. I'm not going to worry about tradition here, especially when the location is the Garden.

it will most likely not be Nebby but we beat them at the RAC..not a bad matchup certainly a toss up game. They have beaten better teams than RU. The OSU game in Ohio went down to the wire, so RU also has a shot in that one though I think at their best OSU is a notch or two better.

Even with their struggles Indiana is dangerous, they went into Ohio State and won 96-92. They have not quit despite people saying they have. I do not like that matchup because they can score and even though they do not play defense, it isnt like RU strength is offense either, I would rather play Nebby or PSU or OSU

If we play Indiana the 1st 10 minutes will be key. If things are going their way we could get the good Indiana team. If not, could get a team playing out the string
