Is it for sure just going to be the 5 Naperville schools? If it is, will it be 4 conference games and 5 non-conference games? How is this going to work?

It's still going to be a damn good conference, just a small one.

Great question.

I ve heard lots of “different things”

Barring additions to the Conference or the 5 schools merging into another Conference - I have heard
* 4 Conference gamea
* 1 non con game against a Conference member. “Play 1 team twice”
* 4 true non con games.

Playing teams twice is the best solution to getting games but with 5 teams it doesn’t really work since you still have one team looking for a game every week.

They really need to get a 6th team to make the scheduling work, playing out of state teams is tough since will often back out of or not offer return games once you play them on the road.

You might be right. It might be two teams they play twice. I have heard that as well and I hope it is not true.

I don’t think Metea is having any trouble finding in state non cons - I wonder if they might let Metea play 5 non cons and the other 4 teams have 1 in con tream they play twice (WV/NV is for sure and NC/NN is for sure).

My understanding... two DVC teams are played twice (only one game counts as a DVC game). That gives each team six games plus three non-DVC opponents to make up the nine game schedule. I do not believe there will be an official automatic IHSA berth for the DVC champion. Naper North gets to play Neuqua and Naper Central twice next year. Still think the two Oswego schools might join the following year to end the madness. I would prefer to see the Plainfield schools join, giving us nine teams. The Naperplainvalley Conference has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?? NPV

Last I heard, which was this past August, was that SWSC was having meetings with DVC about one big merger. I believe some ADs met on this, looks like nothing came of it though.

This makes sense geographically and it would give you two even number divisions. You could split it a number of different ways to make it work.

Was shot down never had a chance is what I heard

Merry Xmas everyone!! Yup. But I think it was some unrealistic “asks” from the Napers and Valleys that scuttled it? I could be wrong though. Edgy if you are willing/able to share any additional details - would you be able to put them up on the nationside thread?

For the sports involved in school-night contests, the SWSC-DVC travel times would not be in the best interest of student-athletes. In addition, a group of current SWSC schools are dysfunctional in more than 2 or 3 sports.

Yes I would assume this is a big concern from both viewpionts - but if you had 3 geographic divisions of 6 teams each - that issue could be mitigated for the most part (but not entirely) as it would still require some crossover games between the 3 divisions.

Well...as mentioned above by Kevin Schmit of the Daily herald, Naperville Central will head to Louisville KY in week 4 to take on the big time national power, the Trinity Shamrocks who have only won 24 Kentucky state titles, and currently have a 50 game winning streak and defeated St Xavier of Cincinnati twice, the second time for the championship...Central will also face another state champion from last season in week 2...8A Champion Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort...sandwiched in between those two titanic opponents will be a non conference home game vs arch rival Naperville North. The Redhawks will finish the season in week 9 traveling to FVC power Cary-Grove...With a 5 team conference, DVC schools will have to win 6 games to auto qualify for post season play...Many may not believe this, but it's a strong possibility that the two Oswego schools currently in the SWPC could make a move to the DVC in 2019. It almost happened when the DVC announced the breaking away of the schools who will form the new DuKane Conference, but one of the two schools took a vote among their coaches to join or stay in the SWPC, and the vote to stay passed by 2 votes. One Oswego cannot go without the other. Those that think that those two Oswego schools cannot compete with the 5 DVC schools are sadly mistaken. Enrollments are at or near what the D203/D204 (except NV which is big time large) schools are. And I've seen them be quite competitive in many sports vs those 5 schools in recent times. I was told by both ADs that they would revisit this issue again and from those I've spoken with in recent weeks, sounds like the thought process could be changing...Time will tell.....

Every year I hope to hear of news that SWSC is no more and/or they are adding/removing teams. Would have loved to see a dvc addition in some way. At least try it out. Has to be better than the problems that SWSC has in multiple sports.

The SWSC schools will likely be continually saddled with the lack of competitiveness of the three D205 schools in most sports on the boys and girls sides due to socio/political reasons. Only the voluntary exit of the 3 "Thorns" would free-up the rest of the league going forward.

Word on the street is the D205 schools are leaving in 2019 for the Southland Conference which was what was wanted when the SICA disbanded and the whole political, "mason-dixon line," Jessie Jackson, etc fiasco happened.

Interesting. For football, that would leave 10 teams with enrollments of 3709 (Lockport) to LWWest (1898). This could make for a 9-game regular season playing each conference team once, like the SW Prairie league. Or, form 2 divisions of 5, play all 4 intra-division, 3 cross-overs and 2 non-cons. One division could be populated by the 5 schools upward of 2700 students (Lockport, Bolingbrook, Sandburg, LWE, H-F) with Stagg, LWC, Andrew, Bradley and LWW in the other division. A "natural" gap of almost 600 students would separate the smallest larger-enrollment division school member with the largest smaller-enrollment school.

I suddenly see why Kankakee was interested in joining the I-8...A couple of years ago Peotone hosted a 3A basketball regional with Manteno, Kankakee and the Rich Township schools...Not a good football fit for the bigger 5A Kays with the 4A I-8 schools, but the Kays are playing Herscher/Manteno/Peotone in most other sports anyway...Kankakee's Holiday Tournament small school division should be called the old KVC/RVC conference tourney - 7 of the 8 schools were KVC/RVC members...

You mean St Xavier of Louisville (whose only losses came from Trinity and St Xavier of Cincinnati).
