so just thought we should start a new thread for the 2018 recruiting cycle. right now we have 2 commits.
cb taylon palmer 6' 170 lbs
qb gunnar holmberg 6'3'' 180 lbs
all the sites that have rated these two have them borderline 4 star/ upper 3 star. great start.
these past two weeks they have been hosting lots of recruits on the weekends. this weekend will be huge for us. lots of highly rated people on campus. we seem to be swinging at bigger fish. also seems we might be getting a ben albert affect on our d line recruiting. per 247 it seems we might be getting early commits from 4 star dt tahj rice and 3 star de alim mcneil. how strange it seems to be getting real interest from the d front seven early rather than at the end. i could get to like this! also they seem to feel wr jake bobo is very close.
we are only going to sign 17 or 18 kids this year so i like that we are taking shots at high level kids

Thanks Surf! Btw, just based on what you've heard how does Katernick (already on campus class of '17) stack up against Holmberg at qb in next yr's class???

ok here is some news per all the sites
scott bracey has been healthy so far and looked like the game changer we hoped he would be.
keystone fuller is healthy and has looked very good. lest we forget he was espn 300 recruit..
johnathan lloyd has quit baseball and is now 100% dedicated to football.
we have a chance to be really good at wr this year. should help daniel jones a bunch..

our oline looks to be improved also
kraeling is at 297 now and has been very impressive
the osu transfer lisle has been really really solid. good battle for rt spot in the fall. brander at lt spot.
santos and miller have been as good as we hoped. harmon at rg spot.
look for really good line play this year. plus we have really solid depth this year..if only we would run outside occasionlly to keep the opposing d honest. (sorry my personal *****)

our d has been much more competitive this year. we seem to be deeper at all positions.

add in our freshman this fall and we have a very good chance to be good. the running backs this year are more explosive, wr play should be better. tight ends as good as we have ever had. dline is bigger and better. lbs are talented and dbs bigger and better.

only three players missing spring ball so far. brander (leg) humphreys (shoulder) and sirk (achillies)

barring a serious injury (god i hate to even write this thought) we will be very solid this year.

also have you looked at our home schedual? really solid. get season tickets and supoport them

Great report surf, and sounds like improvement across the board! I guess we wont know anything about the kicking game until preseason camp in August. I am optimistic with couple guys Cut brought in it HAS to be improved!

Per the home schedule, we need to win the first three! I am sick of losing games we should have won vs Northwestern. Baylor is expected to be really down, and I think we can beat them. Hopefully we deliver the beatdown vs Central week one.

Hmmm..the other 4- wow. 3 of those teams defeated us on the road last year, and two very convincingly. I would be very pleased if we can win two of those four....That would give us 5 home wins and we should get 1-2 on the road at least to go bowling....

so looks like we had a very good weekend. the hot rumor is mr rice commits this week and that we maybe got a silent verbal from a de prospect. also seems that jake bobo was a happy camper and that we impressed a couple other wr kids. hope this is true

huge self inflicted blow. boyce and price kicked off team. this really hurts. starting de and prominent back up dt. coach cut does not play around. looks like the new recruiting class will really have to step up. only bright side to this is that gives us two more schollies for dline next year.

Great reporting Surf.

I was just curious, if Sirk is healthy, do we still expect Jones to be the starter? I assume so, but thought I would ask.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure that even with a more athletic team whether it will result in more than 2 extra wins but it sure bodes well for the future.

If we upgrade the kicking game, with the same guys or new ones, it may result in at least one more win right there.

I think Jones will really blow up next year, if he adds 10+ pounds and becomes more of a run threat.

so the first domino has fallen. jake bobo 6'4'' wr has committed today to duke.plays in the northeast so kinda unknown. rated 3 stars on scout.and the normal rivals 5.4 two star cop out on rivals. his tape looks good. think issac blakeney but a little better. runs a 4.5 40 but the thing i am really looking forward to is he has a 30'' vertical. think red zone weapon.

so thomas sirk has announced he is leaving school as a grad transfer. he wants a chance to play. good for him and thanx for what he did for the program. he is a great picture of what you want out of a duke student.
ps this does give us a scholly for 2017 but does not help in 2018 since he was a senior. still think 18 is the number for 2018

so some spring scrimmage notes
harris at #2 qb and looked very good today. threw some good deep balls.
aaron young looks like the wr who is stepping up. he and bracey give us two large wr options.
brown looks like our best all round rb. wilson is quicker but since we only hand off up the middle we have negated what he is best at. brown can also beast mode along with his quickness.
dl pretty strong against the ol. won most of the battles. ramsey and mcswain can be very good
mcduffie has taken over the cash strike position. think they finally found his spot.
feamster played at cb and looked good. 6'3'' 210lbs is huge in that spot.

overall some good things. defense looked good. ramsey 90 td fumble return for td. secondary looked much better. we threw the ball downfield and looked better today doing it. jones and harris seemed improved. once again we only run up the middle so it was a struggle. dont know why we box ourselves in like that. we had some good looking kicks by punting and fg units.
cant believe no more football for months

Jones made some bad short throws, one was a pick 6 during 1on1's. He has to take a big step up. The center to qb exchange ugly as well. I thought the DL was impressive. Couple more practices and then it's wait til Fall.

I may have met Casey and another recruit at Tickle My Ribs. They had stopped there to eat and had Duke gear on and had just returned from a Duke football camp last summer. Both were lineman from Ga. I ask them how did they like Duke and both said they loved it and the parents that were with them gave a thumbs up. One of them was a rising junior and the other a rising senior. Who knows. Wish I had gotten their names. OFC

could be another big weekend for duke football. two very good players visiting over the next few days.
dt t k chimedza 6'2'' 280 is a 4 star on most boards (rivals 5.6). he is visiting with commit taiyan palmer who is his best friend since 4th grade. if the coaches can seal this deal then just wow on the dline recruiting this year. supposedly between us and georgia.
te matt alaimo 6'4'' 235 out of nj is visiting. borderline 4 star on most sites (5.6 on rivals) has a ton of good offers. rutgers, arkansas, illinois, louisville, minnesota, nc state, pitt, syracuse, vandy, uva and wva. fyi evidently good student when you see offers from yale, harvard, navy, princeton and columbia. seems like a perfect fit for us.
