Vincent Anthony Jr. wins ACC honor

Duke’s Vincent Anthony Jr. was named the ACC’s defensive lineman of the week for his performance against Illinois.
The senior defensive end had three sacks on Saturday against the Illini. That’s a career high for the 6-6, 260-pounder who’s from Durham.
His first two sacks came on third downs of Illinois’ first two possessions. The third one was early in the second quarter.
Three sacks is tied for the fourth most by a Blue Devil in program history. The last time a Duke player had at least three in a game was Chris Rumph II against Charlotte in 2020. Anthony’s three sacks are tied for the most against a ranked opponent; Phillip Alexander had three against No. 6 Florida State in 2003.
Anthony had one sack against Elon in the season opener. His four sacks lead the country; three players have 3½, including Louisville’s Clev Lubin.
Anthony has been a starter since his freshman season. He had 2½ sacks combined in his first two years; he’s up to nine sacks in 15 games with Duke’s current coaching staff.
