Do y’all think Hayesville will ever field another team as good as that 2003 team? I’m a Black Knight fan, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the yellowjackets since some of my cousins played on those teams.

I think so. You could make the argument that the 2002 team was even better, since they advanced to the regional final (even though they didn't win the SMC like the '03 team did because of a loss to a good Murphy team that had beaten eventual 3A regional runner up Asheville earlier in the year). The '02 team had a lot of underclassmen skill players that became the stars of the '03 team, but also had an enormous line of mostly seniors. Hayesville's 01 team was also really good--went undefeated out of conference with wins over Hendo, Polk, Smoky, and a new 5A Atlanta school, then lost a few close ones in conference before losing by a TD to eventual state champ Swain in the 2nd round. Plus there was another conference champ in '97, and a couple teams in the early/mid 90s that made the 3rd round back before the playoffs were subdivided. I know you asked about he future, and not the past, but I think the 90's through the early 2000s, taken as a whole, shows '03 wasn't really a one-off success, and Hayesville has been capable of putting other really good teams on the field. It's just about figuring out what needs to happen to get back to that.

The conference will come down same as last year..Murphy and Robbinsville. Swain MIGHT squeak out 3rd..Major rumblings again going on in Swain County..The news will break soon.

No major rumblings going on around Swain.....check your sources or care to elaborate?

Break the news if you already know. I’m calling your bluff right now.

All I have heard is positives and how this team is so much closer and far ahead of where they were last season. Leadership is strong and they are motivated.

Maybe half your team shouldn't be in Graham County all weekend, every weekend talking about their team and coaches. I talk to your players on the lake,on the creek,in Ingles parking lot , on my front porch and in church.

But that's just half the news..its coming

Thoughts and prayers from the Mitchell community. This is a tragic situation, that the Mitchell community has unfortunately had to deal with the past couple of years.

There are no words in situations such as this. Each time something like this occurs, it reminds me of how insignificant the banter that goes on about sports can be. But, those teammates and the coaches that have that strong bond already built can be of great comfort to one another in the time of need.

On a sadder note my prayers go out to the family back home of the senior. I've seen posts and have a family member in that graduating class and its heart breaking to read her posts.

How bad will Christ School beat Murphy?

More a question of will Christ School beat Murphy? Murphy has home field for three of it's five biggest games (four of six if you drink whatever panther has gotten in to lately). Having that game in Murphy is huge. It's hard to come to the Hill and win.

I think the dogs have a chance in this one with their line play and CS being down from previous seasons. They will still be good but not nearly on the same level as the last three years. It’s hard to replace the talents of Robinson and Cobb as well as Gibbs and Wes Shuler at LB. I’ve heard the younger Gibbs may have went back to Owen not sure if that’s true or even possible? No matter, CS will have a huge solid line with everyone back, and a very good receiver in White catching balls from Navy, they just won’t have that game breaker they’re used to having.
