It was reported today that the Dodgers are interested in Nola. The number I saw was 5 years $125 million. That's a tough one for the Phillies. They can match that money and duration, but do they want to?

I like Rhys back at first with Harper, Marsh, and Castellano in the OF. It gives them another power hitter in the lineup that Rojas doesn’t provide. If Harper can’t throw, move him back to DH, and bring back Schwarber to play left field. Rojas will get his turn when the inevitable injury bug hits or at least as a valuable pinch hitter or runner when needed.

The Phillies need more contact and less strikeouts in their lineup. Neither Hoskins or Rojas give them that. At least Rojas gives them plus defense in a premium spot.

Letting Hoskins walk is a smart move. I hope they let Nola walk and sign Yamamoto.

You can't possibly be serious? Schwarber the worst defensive outfielder in baseball and Hoskins the worst defensive 1st baseman in baseball. Harper as a DH when he's 10 times better than Hoskins at first. SMDH!

I’m focusing on the offense that Hoskins contributes compared to Rojas. He’s a streaky hitter but can add more home runs. You can also play him in left field and keep Schwarber as DH if you want.

The good Rhys, at bat, was always an asset for the Phightins. He could work counts, and when he was locked in he could spray the ball all over CBP. The bad Rhys, at bat, was the equivalent of Rojas in the recent postseason. Rhys could go in extended slumps that were flat-out ugly. He wasn't an asset on the base paths, or in beating out double plays. And then there was his defense, which was atrocious.

It's pretty rare that any baseball team rolls out a lineup that is perfect. Each player has strengths and weaknesses at bat, and in the field. The GM and then the manager try to maximize the strengths, and minimize the weaknesses, so that the team can be successful. Rhys was a great person (from all accounts), but with the way the Phightins are constructed, they don't need a DH, they don't need a poor glove at 1st, and they need consistent contact at the plate.
