I didn't know that the 'Cats were ranked #7 in the preseason poll.......
Interesting that the CATS are the only BIG team to be ranked in the top 25 in the pre-season rankings. Got a big boost when everyone decided to come back for an extra year.
Two big comeback wins yesterday. Take on Missouri and St.Johns today and #13 Tennessee tomorrow. As usual Coach Drohan has the Cats playing a strong non-conference schedule to start the season. Should be a fun time at SDF field in Evanston this year.
More convinced than ever that something is wrong with Danielle. She gave up 4 runs in the first inning against Clemson today, which included a double and 2 home runs, and didn't get out of the inning. Score after 2 is 9 - 0. Supple getting pounded too.
Cats get run ruled 15-2. Something’s got to be wrong with Danielle, our other pitchers aren’t getting the job done, and hitters aren’t hitting. The season is still young, and we’ve played some tough teams, but this is sure not the start anyone expected. Hope we can get it turned around, as hope does spring eternal. Go Cats

Plenty of time to turn it around. Clemson is a really good team. Not playing any patsies to start the season.
While it is true that there is plenty of time to turn it around, I don't think that will happen unless Danielle gets back to being Danielle. Most of the games the 'Cats won last season were won by Danielle, who pitched a whole bunch of innings against very good teams.
Much needed good news as Cami Henry throws a 3 hit shutout against Notre Dame. Zedak and Cuchran with the big hits in the 5th and Henry makes it stand up as Cats win 2 - 0. Let’s hope Danielle’s problem is mechanical and not an injury. Nice win this morning for the ladies.
Cats fall yesterday to Clemson in the second game yesterday 3 - 2. A sixth inning rally comes up just short. Nice pitching performance by Lauren Boyd as she went the distance. After giving up a 2 - run homer in the 1st settled down and only allowed 1 more run the rest of the way. Struck out 5 and walked only 1. Gave her team a chance to win. Cats scratching to get runs the last few games.

So far so good. Cats up 5-0 as NU hits the Irish with a five spot in the top of the third. Big hit by Cuchran with a bases clearing double. Candy and Nelson with RBI singles.
Danielle on the bump. Irish have had some base runners but so far Danielle has gotten out of the first and second innings without any damage.

NU up 5-3 top of fifth. Williams gave up two Homeruns in the third. Pitched to three batters in fourth before Coach Drohan brought in Lauren Boyd to finish inning.

Cats win. 10-3. Nelson with 3 RBI'S and Nikki Cuchran with 4 to lead the Cats at the plate.
Lauren Boyd comes in and pitches 3.1 innings of shutout ball striking out 5 and walking no one.
Looks like for know we will.have to depend on Boyd and Henry on the bump until Danielle can get back to form.
Also did not see Skyler Shellmyer the last few games. Hope she is OK as she is a very valuable leadoff hitter and center fielder.

Another concerning trend is our lack of offense. Only had 4 hits and 1 run yesterday a solo homerun by Jordyn Rudd. Have an uneasy feeling so far this year about our CATS. Let's hope they can turn it around soon.

She must be hurt. There would be no reason to rest her for later in the season. Last year, she frequently pitched 2 games in a row. Softball is not at all like baseball in that regard.
Cats come up just short against UCLA 2-1. The pitching gave us a chance to win but the offense could only manage 2 hits with the only run coming in the top of the 7th on a Jordyn Rudd homer.

Just looked in on a running box score of tonight's game vs Kentucky. After 3 innings Williams has given up 2 runs (neither earned, evidently) on three hits. It's a long season and others may need to step up. True that softball pitchers can do heavy duty (as Danielle did in prior seasons) but she's having unprecedented difficulty for now. May be best to rest her a bit.
That’s more like it. Danielle Williams goes the distance in a 9-3 victory. Gave up only 1 earned run and struck out 7. Encouraging news as hopefully DW is getting back on track to becoming one of the more dominating pitchers in college softball. With Boyd and Henry pitching well maybe the Cats will have a nice rotation going on the bump for them this year. Good late night news.
