McGuire rarely subbed. I think we may still be in the ACC record book for the 1969 ACC tournament game vs Dook in which the starting 5 for each team played the entire game.

Early April look at next season for the rest of the SEC. Installment 1

Last season we had 8 teams make the tourney with 2 more being bubble teams. As of right now, I see 4 locks and 12 teams working and praying for portal mojo. It was also a bad recruiting year for the league. We finished fourth in top 100 players signed behind PAC 12, BIG 10 and ACC.

Locks
1. Gamecocks nough said for now.
2. UT. They don’t have our post size or depth but they have overall size and enough talent already to beat us at home if they have a great day and we don’t show up

Horston and Jackson are nightmare matchups.
Key is an excellent interior rebounder and defender. They portaled in a true pg from Minnesota who averaged 15ppg and has a good handle.

Miles, Darby, Suarez and Puckett can be effective as shooters and 3rd and 4th scorers.
They also bring in 5* freshman Justine Pissot, yet another 6’2” guard who can do it all.

That is a top ten team and player rotation with size throughout the lineup. They will overwhelm most teams in the league with talent, depth, and size.

Harper has proved herself as a very good coach;
X&O’s, motivation and in game adjustments. She has leaned heavily on the portal and I don’t think they are through. Even if they are, they are clearly the second best team in the league.

Next Ark and LSU

It was inevitable that portal would become a verb....

2022-23 preview

Arkansas

They return everyone but top scorer Amber Ramirez and Elauna Eaton who was injured most of her two year career

Makayla Daniels and Samara Spencer are pgs as well as shooters. Sasha Goforth is a very good wing. Barnum is an underrated and smallish center in a league that lost a lot of giant centers from last year. Langerman and Ellis are solid role players off the bench.
Wolfenbarger is a future all SEC player.
They add two top recruits; Saylor Poffenbarger a 6’2” W who left UCONN In December, and 6’4” P Maryam Dauda who redshirted due to injury.

As always they have numerous 3 pt shooters but for the first time in forever the have true 5* post player. They have enough talent and height to not just pray they have a great shooting night. I think they escape the middle of the pack and are 4or5 in the conference at the end of the year.

I believe Goforth has stepped away from basketball due to a health condition.

Yikes, what a tough break for her. I hope it can be treated so she has a healthy life. That hurts Ark but I still assert they will be a tourney team.

I really appreciate how when I put info out y’all help and correct. It keeps me and all who read better informed. Thanks!

I have a feeling UConn won't be bereft.
Williams#1
Westbrook#2
O-Nelson#5

They Were loaded with talent but none of them ever became a true star or dominant. We got Boston and Cooke in large part because Williams and Ododa turned us down. Some on the board went into anger and despair when this happened

Ducharme, Fudd, and Bueckers are all basically 6’0” guards who are great shooters. Juhasz and Edwards will be not great but much more than serviceable posts. DeBerry will be a very good backup post. They will have Griffin back and two 5* recruits with size coming.

They will not be in our class, but they win their conference and at the very worst will be an elite 8 team

Have you got a handle yet on how our roster will land and the relative strength of it next year compared to this year - or is it too early?

Sec champs the league is very down except UT, this may change with the portal
Final 4 after that it is vanity to predict more

I am paranoid Feagin or Amihere May bolt, but I think more probable Amihere pulls a Saxton.

Hall and Rivers were great shooters in HS at all 3 levels🤞🤞🤞🤞

We may be even better on the boards and D.

Only questions are
Who stays or goes
Can Johnson and Fletcher distribute in a timely manner an limit Turnovers
Do Beal and Saxton improve midrange

i was so bummed when we missed out on those two and especially to UConn. I thought Staley and staff would never get over the recruiting hump and boy was I wrong. In the long run we definitely ended up with the better deal.

I agree with you, UConn will lose a lot of experience but that experience while talented, it was very inconsistent. Now their experience will be mostly guard focused(although still very young), with a couple of posts that are also inconsistent as well. But the new portal rules makes anything possible for UConn. Someone like an Angel Reese(just an example, don't see that working out), could come in and UConn instantly becomes a threat for the title.

So far not surprised by the transfers, I'm curious if Russell will give Maryland a try, it's close to her hometown . There's a max exodus there but it could be a huge red flag and I believe they have mostly guards left which could put her in a similar spot with playing time if she doesn't step up.

I hope she lands at a place more stable than Maryland. I wouldn’t want to stay in the SEC, make the break.
Duke, UNC or Va tech would be good places near by, good program, smart coach.

Players that have transferred out in the last 10 years and how they have done. Eniya makes nine, that is more than I had remembered at first thought. Not sure where that lands us on the spectrum. No problem child in the bunch... a couple just didn’t have the talent to be here at an elite program, some were homesick and others just got buried by better talent but blossomed away from here.

Kaydra Duckett was here 2 years and went to Coastal and sat out 1 year. Never played again. Was a beast in HS at Dreher but came here out of shape and just never recovered.

Victoria Patrick was recruited to be a speciality
3pt role player. Stayed 2 years got a ring. Went to North Florida and was a bench contributor for 2 years.

Aarion Bradshaw was the other freshman pg on national championship team. Classmate was Ty, so she left to go to Dayton. Only started for 4 years(got a Covid year and graduated THIS year). 3X all defensive team, 1X DPOY, name dots their record book in the assists category. Graduated with undergrad in Engineering AND TWO master’s degrees. Started a successful nonprofit while at Dayton. She is who you want your daughter to grow up to be.

Jatarie White two years here and went to Texas. Averaged 10ppg both seasons. Playing in Europe

Shay Colley left midway through her Fr year. Eventually ended up at Mich. St. Started for 3 years averaged 9, 13, and then 15 her Sr year. Playing professionally and was Amihere’s teammate this past summer on the Canadian Olympic team.

LaDhazia Williams left after 2 years for Mizzou, started first season and then came off bench as sixth man. Double digit average for her time their. Is seeking a Covid year elsewhere for next season

Haley Troup left for Mizzou after one summer semester without ever playing. Solid career, two year starter and back for a Covid year next season

Bianca Jackson played here two years, started one year and played well. We just recruited better. Went to FSU, started 2 years and averaged double figures. Is seeking a super senior year at present.

Eniya Russell is writing her next chapter...Godspeed

What does a National championship ring do for you in life? A college degree helps. Contacts help.

As a basketball player it's an ultimate goal you want to have. Once your receive it, why not use what could be your last years of playing organized basketball at a place where you can play instead of sit on the bench. These women can always get a degree at their next location if they don't already have one.

I didn’t say they shouldn’t go where they can play. Just saying a ring is great and shows an accomplishment but what does it really do for you? Open up doors?

If you wish to play at the next (higher) level it can open doors, if you were a main contributor to the ring. Lets them know you're a competitor and a winner at the highest levels. If you're just a role player and most likely won't participate at the higher level, then it's mostly a personal achievement, where the highest level you DID play at, you won their most highest of titles. It's a gold ring to reach for, and grabbing it is always a personal goal to achieve.......

Just gonna have to disagree.

Gamekem was not the only one who despaired on this board about losing ONO and Williams.

Many chastised DS for not being able to follow up after winning a national championship. Especially since both players were in the SEC footprint. I had quite a bit of repartee with folks on the former board

Boston attended almost every UCONN home
game, she may even have had season tix. If ONO and Williams had signed with us it would have dramatically affected Cooke’s and Boston’s recruitment. To think otherwise is naive.

When DS tells the story of the phone call Aliyah made to commit, she says Aliyah was crying and apologizing, and that DS was thinking, damn it’s UCONN. UCONN fans were stunned when Boston came here

I believe I was on Cockytalk at the time when I felt that way. I never was as harsh as many others were at the time but I was definitely disappointed. If after winning a title we still couldn't get a kid from Georgia and Arkansas to commit to us over the likes of UConn, then it felt like we would never be able to match schools like ND, UConn and Tennessee for pure talent.

There was a lot of talk following the 2018 recruiting class that Dawn could only recruit PGs and players from the Carolinas and the surrounding areas. Then 2019 happen and we get 4 players in the top 15 who are from areas we don't usually get talent from (Ohio, Indiana, Massachusetts, Canada) and the program went from being a tier below other programs in talent to being the complaint of too much talent on one team almost overnight.

Also the Uconn fans were so confident that Boston was going to them at the time, that I didn't even have her or my radar anymore. The finger pointing and angry debates they had in UConn following Boston choosing us in the weeks following was pure comedy. I will say that I think the recruitment of ONO had also effected Amihere decision to go to UConn as well. Especially given how Geno usually limits playing time to about 6 or maybe 7 players a season.
