State overcomes a 3-point half time deficit to beat HPU by 8 in Reynolds. HPU won the Big South last year.

According to an associate HC friend of mine, three quarter scrimmages are not uncommon. Teams often do some situational drills to start the scrimmage

Three quarters played. According to this a pretty lopsided “score.” I don’t take much from this.

Correct. Terms, scenarios, lineups, etc. are all played with throughout the “secret” scrimmage. Throw in a couple of precautionary things we’re dealing with and part of a reason why scores are not even kept in a few. Nobody should ever take the score of a exh or scrimmage seriously. They smacked us last year and we made it to the S16. UF smacked State last year and look at their two seasons. The Vols fans can celebrate a win in a scrimmage no attendees were a part of all they want lol- they’re not going to be celebrating anything in the SEC with Dawn, Kim, and Vic there.

I think it could take us some time with so many new faces and players playing key roles this year that
have not done so in the past.

I would think Coach CB will give those that could deserve playing time their chance's in the early season
before we settle on roles, court time and combinations.

Bottom line it might take some time and some games to see what players make the best core unit.

IMO it will be late December early January before this team hits its potential maybe longer if there are injuries.

True, but here's the thing. According to them, we beat them by 25 in half court setting. Of course, they leaving that part out. We got SC coming up. That'll give us a better gauge of where we're at to start the season.

I'll probably be standing on my own with this comment. Out the gate, we may take some hits, but if we can stay healthy.... Our back court is going to be ELITE. Watch!!!

We may be holding BT out or limit her time.

Pretty sure Coach CB was not playing to win but to give everyone some court time.

I will take my chances with this team. Go Heels !

I was in Knoxville today and happened to run into 4 of the lady vol’s freshmen at lunch. Prawl, Hurst and the Pauldo twins. I didn’t realize they played the scrimmage against us yesterday.

They looked like they were having fun. And all looked as advertised to this point. Prawl is definitely super athletic looking and every bit of the 6’2” they have her listed at. She definitely has a strong and powerful build, significantly more so than Nyla Brooks it seems even though they are similar heights-ish and top recruits. I could see her being trouble for a lot of teams.

The Pauldo twins appeared to both be about their 5’6” listed heights. And Lauren Hurst, who we apparently recruited, looked to also be everybit of her 6’3” height. But with more size/strength than say a CT.

Excited to see our team play. Hopeful (and a bit anxious) to see a big sophomore leap for some of our returnees and hopefully some big play from the newcomers.

I got tickets to the South Carolina exhibition next week. So see yall there

I do not put a lot of stock into scrimmages. This is a time when coaches are trying things out, experimenting, etc. We will see how things go when the season starts. That is all I have to say about this.

obviously BT is not where we need her to be at conditionally right now, especially vs that opponent. She is working back after being out for a while and I would expect her to be fully back for UCLA assuming no re-injury. A couple other minor, traditional tweaks here and there- no major season-ending stuff to my knowledge. Your secret scrimmages are even more so irrelevant with final scores than exh. You are more so allowing everyone to play, trying stuff you wouldn't necessary throw out there in a televised exh, etc. I, and no one else should be either, am not worried one bit over a secret scrimmage. We should have depth this year to truly go beyond 8-deep in tight ACC games this year- with TBD and lots of potential beyond those 8. It is going to be a fun year to watch them develop from Game 1 to ACC play to postseason. Progressively better in each phase.

I think BT is perhaps the most critical player on this team. Not because she is the best, but because she is the only true center on the team.

Harris and Toomey can play center, but by my eye each will be less efficient there against most opponents than they would be at the 4. And it would mess up our rotation considerably if either had foul trouble or injury. I hope that Toomey has strengthened her base/core considerably and proves me wrong.

I cant speak for Henderson, Astakhova or Queiroz too much, but they are all clearly young/inexperienced and either lack the height or the strength to play the position naturally. My guess is that of the three, Queiroz is our emergency center.

Just guessing from film view's I think if in a pinch to play without BT on the floor or CT not able to hold her own at the 5 spot physically we would go with Nyla Harris at the 5 and Taissa Q at the 4. JMO.

Taissa is very strong and has great hands around the rim. She could be AU like.

I agree that BT is very important for this team.

If Harris plays the 5 and Toomey/Thomas are not currently in, I think Henderson or Brroks at the 4 is more likely than Querioz. If we go small we need to punish the other team with speed and versatility.

But I think Queiroz is still the emergency 5 due to her strength and rebounding.

of course we are all just guessing here: way too many new pieces with near zero intel to have an informed opinion.

That's the trouble 3397 Lol. At this stage unless someone has inside knowledge from practice we just do not know how it is going to shake out as far as playing time and combinations.

I like the lineup of Harris at the 5 and Brooks at the 4 due to its athleticism. I posted a month ago that
NH, NB, IN, RK and EA could be our most effective lineup or best alternate lineup.

If we play against a big frontcourt at the 4 and the 5 we are going to need our biggest/strongest 2 available front court players on the court. Hopefully we stay healthy and out of foul trouble.

Taissa, Liza and Taliyah are real wild cards for us right now seeing we know very little about their games at this point. They could be killing it , we will just have to wait to see more. Fun time of the season.

Baylor upsets Duke in a rock fight, 58-52. Neither team shot above 31% from floor. Duke only played 7 players- doesn't look like Robertson was back. 20-69 from the floor, 4-21 from 3, -10 on the boards. Baylor lead for just 10 min of gametime. 5-star FR skinner DNP.

BC loses to Holy Cross. Oh my.

Tatum Green had 14 and 10 for FSU. Still wished we could have found a spot for her.

I agree about Tatum Green. Man, BC this makes the conference look bad. Holy Cross, come on BC. Get it together.

I do not envy BC. Their coach Bernabei-McNamee is really solid. She finds rough diamonds, hones them, and then they transfer out to schools with resources. Gakdeng is one of over a half dozen quality players they lost since the free transfer portal and NIL era started like 4 years ago. And they do not replace through the portal with desired players. Their transfers in are stars from schools I have never heard of or mere role players/reserves on average D1 schools.

BC simply does not bring P4 resources to the table in any sport. That New Balance money I guess is not the same as Oregon's Nike money. they are just great in regional sports like LAX and ice hockey where they have significant tradition and NIL has not made major changes (yet).

The words dook WBB and rock fight together in a sentence. Who would have guessed.
Chaotic and a street fight for 40 min.
Didn’t a certain coach over in Durham teach that if you foul on every play eventually the refs will stop calling them? 10rC has not only adopted that philosophy but taken it to a new level.

Lazy in the half court on both ends. If you can break their press regularly you’ll score a lot. just need to stop them from doing the same on the break

Interesting stat:

20 of the ESPNW top 30 class of 2022 have transferred at least once in college. (Including Paulina Paris)

This roughly matches all of Div 1 where 30% of all players entered the portal (1510 of 5048) just in last season (the top 30 stat above encompasses 3 seasons) That means, assuming mostly 15 player rosters, each team averaged between 4 and 5 players to enter the portal.

Here is a pretty solid article from a player discussing what the experience of the portal era is like:

I just looked at Paulina Paris stats at Arizona and her stats are worst then what they were when she played for us. She did show her true colors her last year at UNC when she became healthy and she refused to play. I think her dad had a lot to do with that. Karma can be something when you do not treat people right. It is coming back to hurt her now. I think she even had some bad things to say about CB. Oh well, I just hope we beat them when we play them (SMU).
