Please use this thread to discuss the PSU MBB 2025-26 preseason, in-season, postseason (B1Gs & NCAAs), and then offseason news about the team, former players, etc.

There was a lot of good posts in the PSU MBB 2024-25 thread. You can access those posts at:

That non-con schedule has a very New England-y feel to it....

Going to New Haven, a school in their first year of DI, is an odd choice. I thought the point of a guarantee game was to have them come to you. Or are they paying us?

Going to New Haven just to establish the road travel routine and expectations for new squad….

DeChellis never came back here with Navy…but he retired this offseason, former PSU assistant Jon Perry took over, and they appear in the schedule.

LaSalle is the same day as football game at MSU…Hope the times don’t end up conflicting again like they did last year with our game at Wells Fargo.

I am worried about this year. I am normally optimistic, but the loss of Konan Neidermier has me shook.

I'm not "worried" in the sense that I'd expect the bottom to fall out (as we've seen in some of our teams over the past 30 years)...but making the Big Ten Tournament will likely be an uphill battle.

I think this year is a complete unknown. I'm glad about the influx of Euros but how will all these new Euros & US players mesh? Might take this season and next year will be better. Coaches are paid to get results. We'll watch and wait.

I haven't stopped worrying since Parkhill left.
I thought Rhoades was the guy. His first team was very competitive and he took them to the BiG Tournament finals. Last year the team looked really good until Puff got hurt and Ace was playing less than 100%. Injuries are a difficult part of the game but it seemed like he completely lost the team. Now he has to start over with a limited budget.

Some have said this will be the most talented team PS has ever had. But I need see it happen.

On the flip side, a former player watched practice and said that this is the worst team he's seen in 40 years.

The Kenpom ratings have dropped for this season. Ken has us 95th overall in his rankings, and last in the Big Ten (Big Ten being his 2nd rated conference). He has us going 14-17 overall, 5-15 in the Big Ten. We start off with 5 straight games with a >77% chance of winning, so hoping we at least get off to a good start. He's got us wtih the 104th ranked offense, and 85th ranked defense. Expected to play a little faster, with the 43rd ranked tempo.

It's all pretty similar to Bart, as he has us 102nd overall with the 138th offense and 74th defense, going 13-18 (5-15).

Interesting numbers with so many new parts. I think 5 wins in conference would be 2 more than I expect, though I will admit I have no idea about how a few of the Euro's will mesh with Mingo. I would hope a minimum of 7-2 prior to the IU game and then NCC is a win so 8-9 wins outside of conference. Maybe get 3-4 against Rutgers/NW/Minn, but then anything outside of those teams is tough. Maybe USC or OSU at home but I think 5 conference wins would be a high guess as of now.

This is really a high-variance season for us. With all of these new faces, will it take a while to come together? Or will the sum of everyone be greater than the individual parts. I'm not optimistic about how it goes, but excited to see how it all comes together and if we can hopefully surprise people (including me).

I don’t run the numbers or pay attention to as many different guys who do as you, but Definitely agree with your comment. You never know with some of these European kids, we’ve had some really bad ones show up here over the years, but I think a couple of these guys are more highly regarded so you never know. If we can get two guys to knock down outside shots and the new bigs to just rebound and play strong interior defense, there’s a chance to steal a few games, it just depends on when.
