Glad that ESPN+ picked up today's game too.

If this were an actual game, I'd have Dayton as about a 7.5 point home favorite based on my current numbers.

Unfortunately, it was even rougher than I expected. Dayton won 78-62, but it wasn't as close as the score indicated...it was hovering around 25 until we got into garbage time. Mingo was solid and had 16, Dilione had 16 but on 17 shots. I liked what I saw from Juric, and thought that Blackwood showed some potential. Overall, just not many options on offense. We ended up shooting 39% from the field and 18% from 3. 14 turnovers as we struggled with pressure.

Dayton isn't bad, but they're a likely NIT-ish team, and from what I saw today, it's gonna be a long season.

There is a forum for that if you'd like to discuss it. I more closely follow the bigger sports rather than the niche sports.
While I am much more of a basketball fan than wrestling and even coach HS basketball; in PA, wrestling is the BIG winter sport and basketball is the niche one. It is a a big reason MBB has not been able to consistently reach the upper half of the conference.

While that may be (and really is) true for the PSU and Central PA fanbase, I'm talking about at a National Level.

In 2023, we played a 2nd round NCAA game at the same time as the Wrestling National Championship (while several other NCAA basketball games were happening at the same time). Wrestling brought in 628k viewers. The PSU-Texas game had 6.63 million viewers.

And yes, the rest of the world caring a TON about men's hoops and PSU fans caring little is one of our biggest hurdles.

I‘d take the East Halls All-Stars over PSU.

😞
Back in 1997-98 a bunch of us regularly played some guys on the team at Pollock courts, White building, Rec hall, etc. Grey Grays, Titus Ivory, Gyasi Cline-Heard and Scott Witkowski were the freshmen that year along with Joe Crispin. Joe didnt play as much pick up but the others would always join in. All of us non team guys were good players, couple of us who chose to play other sports in college, a couple who played at a branch campus. We did beat the freshmen in a few games to 11 as Witkowski was awful (was dunked on by a 6'2 guy) and Cline-Heard wasn't very good then either. I was truly amazed at his growth over his time at PSU.

Well, at least Shippensburg offers us the opportunity to gain some confidence going into the season. Not sure what else we'll gain from this one. PSU up 22-2 at the under 12 timeout.
