I was hoping Mingo would be a harassing defender like Ace but I haven't seen it.Letting the same guy drain three after three makes no sense to me. Make someone else score.
They pounded the ball inside or went to the hoop a ton.Penn state shot 40 free throws
The offense looked good because BU was undersized and PSU won pts in the paint and FTs. That won't be the case vs BiG opponents.Got the win 96-87. The offense looked good, but the defense was bad. Had Boston been a little better from three in the first half, they would have won.
Providence was crushed in their last two games and only is 4-4, and they crushed PSU, so that gives you a pretty good idea of how good or bad this PSU team is.Northwestern beat BU by 24. Merrimack beat BU by 12.
Penn State was down 1 point with four minutes to go vs Providence.Providence was crushed in their last two games and only is 4-4, and they crushed PSU, so that gives you a pretty good idea of how good or bad this PSU team is.
This was an embarrassing game to put on the schedule. The next game vs Campbell should only be marginally better.Good effort today in blowing out Sacred Heart. Kept our foot on the gas and didn't let them get anything going until we got up 40. Good job continuing get the ball inside and attack the rim all game...they had no answer for us, and we kept going to it rather than settling for 3s (as we often do). Defensive intensity was good...still give up too many open 3s for my liking in our rotations (and better teams will punish us for it), but we crashed the boards hard. Campbell on Tuesday night.
Certainly wouldn't consider this an "embarrassing" game to schedule. They aren't great competition, but not like they're an awful MEAC/SWAC/NEC squad. They, like Farifield, will likely be a middle of the pack MAAC team. This was an embarrassing game to put on the schedule. The next game vs Campbell should only be marginally better.
Sacred Heart lost to Queens College by 17. Juric won't be able to push his way inside against any BiG teams. I keep waiting for him to make FTs and for Mingo to hit a few outside shots.
cluelessPSU is struggling with Campbell.
IMO Dillione & possibly Reed are the only players who play with maturity. Lots of sloppy turnovers. Frequently leave their feet on defense. Get beat off the dribble because they're not ready for quick first step. Give up offensive rebounds because they don't block out.
Combination of Indiana playing out their mind and Penn State not able to have any composure and find rhythm on offense as well as getting lost on screens and ball movement on the defensive end.Indy 5-8 from 3pt range early. Some of that has been great shooting but some has been lazy defense.
PSU 6 TOs = 11 pts for Indy
Mingo with 2 fouls. Early danger for PSU.
Now 8 TOs.
Wilkerson has 20 pts in 11 minutes. 37-14 Indy. If this was a fight....
58-24 at halftime.Combination of Indiana playing out their mind and Penn State not able to have any composure and find rhythm on offense as well as getting lost on screens and ball movement on the defensive end.
You can tell it’s their first major road game, but you can also see the clear talent difference against the middle of the pack, Big Ten team
Yep, it’s like they didn’t even watch film.58-24 at halftime.
Indy shot 68% from the field. PSU shot 67% from FT line. Indy had 16 assists vs 2 for PSU.
This was over once Mingo went out with 2 fouls. I hoped Dillione could help fill the void but no. As feared Juric was a non factor against stronger competition. He's just a freshman so he might improve.
Giving up layup after layup on back screens might be the biggest disappointment. 11 turnovers is a close second.
