2025-26 PSU Men's Ice Hockey Thread

NLC presale for hockey season tickets was 10 am.

No seats are available for any games, only SRO.

Student section tickets are available for RIT 1/4 and the Gophers 1/9-10. Sucks not to have roar zone for that weekend. Classes start 1/12, so maybe some will make it inside.

Also, they did change the date of the RIT home game to 1/4 (from 1/2). I’m assuming the football team’s CFP hopes may have played a part in that.

And, par for the course, the ticket office and NLC claimed to have no idea when the teddy bear toss and Pegula whiteout would be. Still no promotional schedule with less than three weeks to home hockey (20 days).

Not sure I understand MSU being ranked above Penn State. Also, I am happy that my Gophers are ranked 8th. Low enough to motivate the team to work their rears off, but not so low that you have to fight the whole season to get a sniff of the NCAA Tourney. That is assuming that we can hold that ranking. I think the team is between a rebuild and a reload.

Regarding ASU... they are newer than us at D-1 hockey. They have had similar early success, not quite as high as ours.

Last year was last year, but they did beat national champ Western Michigan at home one night and lost in OT the next. They went into Denver and swept the Pioneers, and then split with them at home. They play in the NCHC, one of the top conferences in the country. They lost in their conference SF to Denver. They were the first team out of the NCAA last year (we were the last team in).

Nothing is a given in hockey. They are in CHN's Top10 and are at home. And, as a result of our run last year and our incredible recruiting, we are about to find out what it's like to be the hunted.

Going by what Guy says, his boys are meshing well in practice. We will find out shortly after puck drop Friday night how true that is. Our top two lines have incredible experience and scoring potential, with the newbie McKenna being the X-factor. If FInk can lead the country without the nation's top recruit, he may see even more opportunities this year.

I'm assuming the top two lines are:

McKenna-Laubach-FInk
Cerrato-DiMarsico-Wiebusch

There will be a lot of youth sprinkled in the last two lines.

The loss of Christenson robs us on the blue line. Thankfully we recruited Guy's son (and Hobey finalist) to help anchor our D and PP. We shall see. He will likely pair with a no. 1 pick, Jackson Smith.

Not to belabor everything I've said since St. Louis, but goaltending will be critical this year. The likely starter is Kevin Reidler, a transfer from Omaha. He only started five games last year but shows promise. Our coach that identified Sergeev's potential last year is responsible for Reidler's recruitment. Here's hoping lightning strikes twice.

They are ranked 10th by CHN and 14th by USCHO, are at home, and will be playing with the eyes of the college hockey world upon them. That's a recipe for success, but it will need to cook for a bit. Whether or not we can wreck the dinner remains to be seen.

I like our chances, but it's opening weekend. If our guys haven't jelled yet, a loss is possible, especially in a barn a couple thousand miles from home. But with the news the games will be televised, I'll be glad for the chance to watch, whatever happens. We should not have any trouble scoring, so we may see a lot of high scoring shootouts this year.
