Alarming, but accurate. That 3rd was atrocious, and that is being kind.
I went to the game. We weren’t much better in the 2nd period either.

Up 2-1 after a wide open first. They took it to us early in 2nd. Scored 2x. They gave us a 5 minute power play and we promptly took a stupid interference penalty. Negated any possible momentum. We scored late in 2nd to tie it up. I was feeling optimistic headed into the 3rd.

They literally kicked the crap out of us. Our defense is huge and yet we allowed their forwards to attack the net with no impunity.
I would like to see some physicality from our boys tonight.

Keeping the puck out of the goal is apparently a glowing and growing problem for this team at the precisely wrong time of the season. Tough to see with the kind of offensive talent they have.

They closed the season on a 3-7 streak, which included winning only one game in regulation and going 0-4-2 against MSU, Michigan and Wisconsin, including two road sweeps by MSU and Wisconsin. This has been an objectively bad team since they swept Wisconsin on the road in the middle of January. They always have been just a wretched defensive team, but now struggle to score, which is the kiss of death for a team that has score at least five goals to win most games.

Ok. NOW the team is in a spot where it has to win 1 game in B1G, maybe two to ensure tourney without a doubt.
Okay, now I guess my analysis of this team and prediction several weeks ago that they might not make the Tournament are beginning to ring true to you when you tried to make me look like a fool. I’ve been watching hockey a lot since the mid 70s and correctly knew where this team was headed several weeks ago.

This team has had a worse run in than Michigan did last season, and Michigan, which is a hockey blue blood, didn’t make the Tournament. This PSU team will not make Tournament, and quite frankly doesn’t deserve to make it.

You did look bad because it was not realistic several weeks ago. It only really became realistic last two weekends.

Whether they deserve to make tourney is TBD. Make a run to B1G final, yes.

Lose first game on 11th, no.

Not looking forward to this game. We (Gophers) are too sloppy with the puck at key moments. The Goalie has been playing well, but we leave him hanging out to dry way too often. No team is easy in this league, but besides MSU, there isn't another team I wanted to face less than the Nittany Lions. We just don't match up well this season.

Have you seen this PSU team play lately? They've won game in regulation out of their last ten games, were swept in two of their last three home series, and are 3-7 overall in their last ten games. They're also horrendous defensively and also leave their goalies, who are mediocre at best, hanging out to dry. If I were Minnesota, there isn't another team that I would want to play more than PSU right now.

Even if PSU somehow finds a way to beat Minnesota, which is highly uncertain, they'd have almost no chance to win a playoff series at Michigan; PSU finished 1-4-2 against Michigan and MSU, which tells you that there's a pretty big gap between the top two teams and the third team. At least Minnesota just went into Michigan two weeks ago and actually won a game in regulation

I have not seen Penn State play lately. My thoughts are based on head to head competition. At Pegula and jockeying for NCAA positioning, That seems like a tough out.
